Chapter 267 - The Hapless Iron Man: Even After Dodging the Snap, Death Still Finds Him

"Floating through space?"

Scott Lang's voice came first. His face was filled with utter astonishment as he exclaimed, "Tony Stark can travel beyond Earth in the future? That's insane!"

Right now, Earth hadn't even reached Mars. The Moon was still humanity's limit.

Given that technological background, Tony Stark being able to wander the cosmos was shocking for both Scott Lang and T'Challa.

"Buddy, don't act like it's a big deal."

Tony Stark said casually to Scott Lang, "Not long ago, I went to an alien planet and blew one up."

"Really?" Scott nearly popped his eyes out.

No way.Tony Stark was that powerful now?

"Stark, have you already developed interstellar spacecraft?" Even T'Challa couldn't keep calm as he stared at Tony in surprise.

"Of course not. Our Asgardian ship carried him there," Thor added leisurely, finally allowing Scott and T'Challa to breathe again.

Ah, that explains it.Nothing strange after all.

"Alright everyone, let's get back to the question."

Captain America's voice cut in as he noticed the topic drifting, instantly pulling everyone back on track.

Everyone refocused and returned their attention to the quiz.

"We already know Tony Stark went to Titan once. The question mentions him drifting in space—so is it referring to that same event? Before answering, I think we need to clarify that first."

Captain America, as usual, began the analysis himself.

If they could confirm this, it would help tremendously.

Because they already had a lot of intel about the Titan battle—clues they could use.

But if the question wasn't referring to that battle?

Then they were completely blind.

"I believe it is that battle on Titan."

Doctor Strange immediately voiced his opinion. "We've discussed this before. Based on Earth's current aerospace capabilities, even in the next few years, or even ten years, it would still be impossible to support landing on multiple alien planets."

Among the contestants, except for Thor and the WWII veteran Captain America, the others were highly educated. They didn't need Strange to explain further—they understood perfectly.

Landing on an alien planet is extremely complex.Having a spaceship doesn't mean you can just go joyriding into space.

Before actually landing, enormous and complicated groundwork was required:

Full understanding of the target planet

Precise interstellar coordinates

Orbital trajectory calculations

All kinds of additional data

Absolute precision was required.

Earth simply couldn't do that.

Earth could only calculate data for nearby celestial bodies. Anything farther—or especially specific selected planets? Impossible.

Logically, before Tony's group decided to head to Titan, Earth must have invested huge time and resources into surveying Titan.

And that was only the preparation phase.

Once preparations were done, the actual journey would take years.

Earth's current spacecraft relied on chemical propulsion and gravity assists, severely limiting speed. Even reaching Mars took nearly two years.

Reaching farther planets? Much longer.

Meaning that even with mature technology, landing on a planet could casually take years—over a decade wasn't surprising.

Given this reality, Tony landing on multiple planets was highly unlikely.

After discussion, everyone agreed.

The "floating in space" mentioned must be referring to the trip to Titan.

But one question still remained.

"Was I drifting in space before the Titan battle, or after?" Tony asked seriously.

Clarifying this was essential, because the two possibilities led to completely different answers.

"You're right—that's a crucial question," Captain America nodded.

"There are clearly two scenarios: the ship malfunctioned before reaching Titan, or after leaving Titan."

"If it malfunctioned before arriving," he continued, "that means someone rescued them and brought them to Titan."

"And we know exactly who was on Titan. Anyone who wasn't there can be excluded."

In that case, Captain Marvel and Thor were out—they weren't there.

That left Star-Lord and Doctor Strange.

Given Earth's technology, everyone assumed Tony and Strange were on the same ship—meaning Strange had also been trapped on that ship.

So the answer was obvious: Star-Lord.

Besides, Tony met Star-Lord for the first time on Titan, matching the scenario of being rescued by him.

"But if it was the other scenario—after leaving Titan—then both Star-Lord and Strange can be excluded," Thor added. "They were snapped. Dead people can't save anyone."

"So the only candidates left are Captain Marvel and me."

This made things interesting.

The options eliminated in the first scenario were now the only viable choices in the second.

Those who were the answer before were now fully ruled out.

Thus, they had to determine when the drifting occurred.

Everyone quickly agreed.

"I think it was after leaving Titan," Doctor Strange said after a pause. "We all know I can open portals. If the ship malfunctioned before reaching Titan, why wouldn't I open a portal and take everyone there?"

"Why wait on a broken ship and let Stark die?"

"But after Thanos snapped, I turned to dust. I couldn't open a portal. That's why Stark was trapped."

"Doesn't that explain everything?"

"Maybe your portals can't reach unknown places? Maybe you were injured and couldn't open one?" Scott Lang raised two doubts.

Strange immediately shut those down.

"First, I wasn't injured. I fought Thanos on Titan."

"Second, we've seen sorcerers open portals all the time—even to places they've never been. I don't think prior visitation is necessary."

"Even if it were, I had the Time Stone! If worst came to worst, why wouldn't I reverse time to restore the ship?"

"Good point!" Thor nodded repeatedly.

Strange's arguments were solid.

"And one more thing—the question said the ship was damaged to the point it couldn't move at all, drifting helplessly in space."

T'Challa, after some thought, added: "We don't know why the ship was damaged—a flight accident, or the Titan battle. Which is more likely?"

"The battle, obviously," Tony said firmly. "Accidents are rare. The Titan battle was a confirmed reality! And given the scale of that battle, the ship being damaged is completely normal."

"Okay, then we've locked down the timeline," Scott said.

"Exactly. The ship breaking down after leaving Titan is the most reasonable conclusion," Captain America agreed.

Everyone else nodded.

"So Star-Lord and Strange—those two piles of dust—are out. The answer must be either me or Captain Marvel."

Thor clapped triumphantly, pride all over his face. "Oh, sorry—there's no 'or'. The answer is clearly me! Stark, I saved your life in the future."

"Want me to write you a thank-you letter?" Tony shot back with a deadpan look.

The others ignored Thor's bragging and began analyzing again, trying to decide between Captain Marvel and Thor.

"Let's go over the situation."

Captain America thought aloud. "When Thanos snapped, Thor was in Wakanda. He personally witnessed it. After that, Stark left Titan. Time-wise, Thor could have saved him."

"As for Captain Marvel, we don't know much about her, but she did return to Earth after the snap to deal with Thanos."

"So she's also possible."

"Everyone, any other clues?"

Silence. No one had anything new to add.

"Stark, looks like this one's on you," Strange shrugged.

The question was about Tony, so he had to answer. Unfortunately, there was no clear conclusion.

"If we can't deduce it, I'll consider factors outside the question." Tony thought for a few seconds. "Remember the old rule—when Thor appears as an option, never pick him."

"Stark, what kind of rule is that? Who chopped off Thanos's head? Who nearly killed six-stone Thanos?" Thor protested loudly.

"Relax, we know it's you," Tony patted his shoulder. "I'm looking at this from a probability angle."

"Before, Thor's probability was zero—but that's been broken now."

"But Captain Marvel? Her answer rate is still zero, right?"

The quiz veterans thought it over carefully. They realized it was true—no question had ever chosen Captain Marvel.

"Not the most scientific method," Tony admitted, "but I've got nothing else to go on."

He looked at Thor seriously. "Thor, probability points to you. But for some reason, I've got a bad feeling. Don't let me down."

"Trust me, Stark. The answer is absolutely me!" Thor declared confidently.

"Alright, let's go with that." Tony didn't hesitate. He selected his answer on the screen. "I choose A: Thor."

Thor grinned. "Stark, you made the right—"

[Wrong answer!]

The system interrupted, its cold mechanical tone echoing.

[Contestant Tony Stark will have all knowledge and experience related to wireless signal transmission erased. Executing now!]

"Shit!"

Tony Stark instantly felt the pain.
