The group stared at the surveillance footage for a moment. Then, Sharon Carter suddenly handed Captain America a photo.
Captain America took it and saw a close-up of Bucky's face, taken from a surveillance camera.
"Why would the Task Force release this photo?"
Captain America asked, a thoughtful expression on his face.
He couldn't understand the Task Force's reasoning.
"To spread the word and get more people looking for Bucky." Sharon Carter replied matter-of-factly.
"Right, it's a good way to make someone unable to hide," Captain America nodded, his words carrying a hidden meaning. "An explosion, followed by being photographed, and now seven million people are looking for the Winter Soldier."
"You're saying someone framed him to lure him out!" Sharon Carter understood Captain America's meaning perfectly.
"Steve, we've been looking for him for two years and haven't found a thing," Sam Wilson said in a low voice.
"We didn't blow up the UN. That's pretty conspicuous," Captain America pointed out.
So, it was obvious that the Winter Soldier had blown up the UN!
Without even needing to watch the rest of the footage, everyone watching the screen could tell that the Winter Soldier had been framed. It simply wasn't his style.
A ghost who hadn't left a trace in fifty years, if he wanted to kill someone, why would he make it so… dramatic?
As if he was afraid he wouldn't get enough attention.
"Yes, but that doesn't guarantee that we'll find the person who framed him," Sharon Carter pointed out a flaw. "It only guarantees that we can find him!"
Speaking of which, Sharon Carter couldn't help but pause, clearly remembering something.
Captain America and Sam Wilson reacted similarly, each realizing something.
"The mastermind infiltrated the Anti-Terrorism Building!"
Black Widow said with certainty, having also figured it out. "What a clever move!"
It was as if the mastermind had used the Anti-Terrorism Task Force, making them pawns in the search for Bucky! It was undeniably brilliant.
So, who exactly was this person?
On the screen.
Captain America, Sam Wilson, Sharon Carter, and the others couldn't help but focus their gazes on the monitoring screen.
Up there, a psychiatrist was conducting a psychological evaluation of Bucky.
"Tell me, Bucky! You've witnessed a lot, haven't you?"
Inside a room, the psychiatrist sat across from Bucky, speaking at length.
"I don't want to talk," Bucky replied.
"You're afraid that once you start, the fear will be unstoppable, right?" the psychiatrist said with certainty. "Don't worry, we'll only talk about one thing."
During this process, the psychiatrist's face appeared on the big screen, displayed before everyone.
"It's Zemo!"
"So it was Zemo!"
Everyone in front of the screen suddenly understood.
Colonel Zemo was practically an old acquaintance. Because his family died in the battle between the Avengers and Ultron, he harbored a deep hatred and masterminded the Captain America versus Iron Man spectacle.
They just hadn't expected his plot to begin so early.
On the big screen.
The camera began to switch scenes.
A worker was looking at a device inside a box in a place resembling a power station, looking completely bewildered.
"What is this thing?"
Boom!
But the next moment, the device suddenly emitted a powerful electromagnetic pulse.
All the power lines in the power distribution station instantly collapsed.
Following that, the entire Anti-Terrorism Building immediately lost power, plunging into darkness.
The room where the Winter Soldier was being held was the same.
"Friday, can you trace the source of the power outage?" Tony Stark immediately asked his helpful assistant, Friday.
"East, underground level 5!"
Sharon Carter realized something and immediately said to Captain America and the others, then hurried towards that location.
The entire Anti-Terrorism Building began to descend into chaos.
Without a doubt, this was Colonel Zemo's doing.
"What's going on?"
The Winter Soldier, locked in the confinement cell, also sensed something was wrong.
Colonel Zemo, however, remained calm, continuing their conversation: "Let's talk about your home, not Romania, not Brooklyn, but your…true home!"
After saying this with deep meaning, Colonel Zemo pulled out a notebook with a five-pointed star on the cover.
He flipped to a certain page and began to read: "Longing, rusted, seventeen, daybreak..."
This string of words was clearly the code to control the Winter Soldier. As Colonel Zemo read, Bucky suddenly began to lose control.
"No! No! Stop it! Stop it now!" Bucky roared at Colonel Zemo.
But how could Colonel Zemo care?
Kept chanting.
Under Colonel Zemo's voice, Bucky became increasingly out of control, more and more out of control. He let out a roar and broke free from the restraints on his body.
He swung his metal fist, starting to punch the special glass of the isolation cell, one punch after another.
Bang, bang, bang!
After a few punches, the glass of the isolation cell was smashed by Bucky.
Bucky was out!
And at this moment, Bucky's brain had been completely disrupted, becoming a complete tool.
"Soldier!"
Colonel Zemo came to Bucky and said.
"Ready to serve!" Bucky replied expressionlessly.
"Mission report, December 16, 1991," Colonel Zemo said to Bucky.
That date…
Tony Stark's expression on the screen had already become quite ugly, because that was the date his parents were killed.
Clearly, Colonel Zemo's plan to split Captain America and Iron Man had already begun here.
Colonel Zemo was able to get that crucial video, naturally, also because of Bucky's mission report.
Next, the camera switched.
In the darkness of the Anti-Terrorism Building, Captain America and Sam Wilson finally arrived in the room where Bucky was undergoing psychological counseling.
The two of them glanced at the scene, and their faces couldn't help but turn grim.
Because the scene was a mess, with special agents scattered all over the ground, they were a step too late; Bucky had already escaped.
Even Colonel Zemo was knocked down and lying on the ground.
"Who are you, and what do you want!"
Captain America angrily grabbed Colonel Zemo and pressed him against the wall, shouting in a deep voice.
"Witness the destruction of an empire," Colonel Zemo said meaningfully.
The empire here naturally referred to the Avengers.
At this moment, the sound of fighting came from the side. Sam Wilson had already engaged the Winter Soldier, but it was imaginable that Sam Wilson was no match for him.
In just a few moves, the Winter Soldier had knocked him down.
Seeing this, Captain America naturally couldn't remain indifferent and immediately abandoned Colonel Zemo to stop the Winter Soldier.
But the Winter Soldier at this moment was incredibly fierce, relentlessly pushing Captain America back, forcing him to retreat again and again.
With a final, brutal punch, he sent Captain America flying.
He smashed through the elevator door, sending him tumbling into the elevator shaft.
Just like that, the Winter Soldier fought his way out of the Anti-Terrorism Building, his ferocity appalling, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. No one could stop him.
The special agents inside the Anti-Terrorism Building, along with Tony Stark, Sharon Carter, Black Widow, and Black Panther T'Challa, were all knocked to the ground by the Winter Soldier.
Unstoppable!
Finally,
the Winter Soldier made his way to the top of the Anti-Terrorism Building, where a helipad was located, and a helicopter was waiting.
The Winter Soldier didn't waste any time, immediately climbing in and starting the helicopter.
Just as the Winter Soldier was about to fly away, another figure rushed onto the rooftop.
It was Captain America.
Captain America sprinted a few steps, then in a few moves, he reached the helicopter's undercarriage. He leaped, grabbing onto the landing gear with a powerful grip.
The helicopter wobbled, and Captain America actually pulled it down.
Even though they already knew what was coming, everyone watching on the screen was still stunned. The scene was simply too exaggerated.
Captain America's physical abilities were insane; his muscles, which even women envied, were certainly not wasted.
TUT-TUT-TUT!
The helicopter's rotors whirred incessantly as the Winter Soldier desperately tried to lift off, but Captain America held the aircraft firmly in place.
At best, the helicopter could only drag Captain America across the tarmac.
However, as the helicopter reached the edge of the landing pad, Captain America found a point of leverage. He reached out a hand and gripped a steel pipe on the edge.
The helicopter stopped dead in its tracks!
Toot-tut-tut-tut!
The helicopter's rotors continued to spin at high speed, but Captain America single-handedly held back the massive aircraft.
No matter how hard it tried, it couldn't escape Captain America's "grip."
"Buddy, your strength is a bit over the top, isn't it?" Star-Lord couldn't help but exclaim from the side.
At first, he didn't know what a plane was, so he didn't really grasp the significance of Captain America holding onto it.
But now, seeing it, he was truly shocked.
Then, thinking back to the images he'd seen in the previous videos – killing Thanos, battling Dormammu – were the people on Earth really that terrifying?
The screen continued to play.
The Winter Soldier, seeing that Captain America was there, knew he couldn't succeed, so he immediately gave up on escaping.
He began to steer the helicopter, ramming it towards Captain America.
A massive object was barreling towards Captain America.
Captain America's skills were naturally top-notch; he leaped out of the way at the last possible moment.
Bang!
The helicopter slammed hard onto the helipad, spinning and tumbling.
Rat-tat-tat-tat!
The helicopter's propellers, like high-speed gears, slashed towards Captain America. Getting caught in them would undoubtedly mean being chopped to pieces.
That was intense.
Captain America performed another nimble leap, narrowly avoiding the deadly blades.
Boom!
The helicopter then went up in flames, reduced to scrap metal, and lay still on the ground.
Clang!
Captain America hadn't even caught his breath when a metal arm suddenly shot out from the helicopter's cockpit.
It smashed through the windshield and clamped around Captain America's neck.
At the same time, the helicopter began to plummet due to gravity.
Captain America was held by the Winter Soldier as they both plunged into the river below the building.
The screen went black.
Captain America's expression was grim. He had thought everything would be fine after rescuing Bucky from Hydra.
But it turned out things were far from over.
Bucky's situation was far from resolved.
"Captain, do you know about Bucky?"
Black Widow immediately couldn't help but stare solemnly at Captain America, asking, "I mean, the trigger words Zemo used to control Bucky."
"Bucky was controlled by Hydra for so long. I thought he might need some psychological therapy and guidance, but I didn't expect it to be this serious."
Captain America said in a low voice.
He finally understood now why Hydra hadn't given up on Bucky and was still causing trouble, trying to get him back.
It turned out that controlling Bucky was such a simple thing.
All it took was reciting a string of words.
And from the images shown, there were no other conditions. It seemed anyone who recited those words could control Bucky.
This is all a bit terrifying.
But the only consolation now is that Captain America and his team have the highest-ranking leader of Hydra in custody.
They should be able to successfully uncover all of Hydra's secrets.
Captain America quietly made a decision. After this round of questions, he would immediately go back and ask Pierce about the specifics of controlling Bucky.
In the year since they captured Pierce, Captain America had been busy uncovering Hydra's secrets, and he'd neglected the matter of Bucky.
It seems this couldn't be put off any longer.
"The 'codes' to control the Winter Soldier… that should be highly classified information for Hydra. The fact that Zemo was able to find it means he's no simple character," Tony Stark couldn't help but exclaim.
The others present agreed wholeheartedly.
To unearth such secrets from Hydra, and even use the Anti-Terrorism Building as a pawn to find Bucky, whom everyone else couldn't locate...
This guy was definitely not ordinary.
But fortunately, the Battle of Sokovia shouldn't happen now, and that Zemo shouldn't be causing any trouble either.
