Chapter 1 - The Outcasts

"Long ago, before the birth of anything—stars, galaxies, the universe…we ruled everything. We were once called the rulers of the void, but everything changed—everything changed when we were out casted, we were used." a voice narrated, the voice was rigorous.

The voice was of a powerful entity often considered as god—he was old, his long white beard reached his waist, he had long and thin arms. His clothes were also old as if he hadn't changed them since he wore them, he leaned on a long wooden wand, and the wand had a white crystal attached at the top.

"Everything initially begins from somewhere and so does this story, I am already dead and that is why I can never perceive beings like you." his rigorous voice fades as he starts to tell someone a story—the story which shaped everything.

The old man starts to walk and behind him was standing a man; though he can't be perceived with normal eyes as he was glitching, his existence was rapidly appearing and disappearing and yet the man felt no pain.

"Is this the story of lower beings?" the transient man questioned the old man.

The old man started laughing and replied, "Indeed, and the story will answer your question for the existence of the lesser being in your world, Harnett."

The sun rose over the horizon—the time which is usually for livings to wake up seems a bit opposite for this man.

"Yes, I am done creating the research papers for the new element we discovered—yes, I told Sarah to contact the lab's assistant." a 22 year old guy named Thomas mumbled over his smartphone.

Thomas had no sleep the previous night as he was busy creating research papers for the new element he and his colleagues discovered few nights back.

Thomas was an ordinary person whose biggest strength and weakness was that he could sacrifice everything he has just to make sure other person receive their share of happiness.

He prepared a cup of coffee and took little sips to enjoy the flavor, "it's morning already?" he questioned himself when he looked outside the window to see the red sun.

He rushed to take the shower and immediately got ready for the session he had in few hours with some college students.

In few minutes he was ready to leave his house—he opened the main gate and closed it behind him, "I should be doing research on our element rather than giving lectures to college students." Thomas complained while rushing towards the bus-stop.

He leaned his face on the window and he slept—which his body required, after few shocks his eye opened and he saw that the bus which was previously crowded with people is now empty, he was the only one in the bus.

"No-no-no, where the hell am I?" he questioned unaware of his loudness.

The bus driver looked back and answered in frustrated voice, "We are just few kilometers away from the next town."

Thomas had visible fear on his face, "Mr. Can we please go back, I have many students waiting for me back in the Baxter auditorium."

The driver looked frustrated and replied, "What were you doing when we stopped there?"

Thomas looked down and apologized, "Sorry, but I unknowingly slept because of sleep deprivation."

The driver signaled to take the next U-turn and said, "My son is also waiting for the lecture there and if he got to know that the lecturer couldn't attend because I refused to go back, he will hate me."

Thomas smiled and replied, "Thank you, I will make sure your son enjoys my today's lecture."

Few minutes passed and Thomas was rushing towards his class but there was a problem—crowd.

He was pushing himself forward to somehow reach the class and he eventually did but his hair was messed up from sweat and the crowd.

He entered the room and saw something strange—the students were already attending someone's lecture.

Thomas looked embarrassed because he believed that he had entered someone else's lecture, he turned his head to the right and apologized for disturbing the class.

"What are you saying Thomas? This is your class." he heard a soft woman's voice—he immediately recognized the voice.

"Sarah?" he questioned.

Thomas stared at Sarah unable to process why she was there, "Where the hell were you?" he heard another voice and he recognized that too.

"Robert!" he said, without even looking back.

One of the student stood up and said, "You were so late that we were about to leave, it was these two who were telling us about their past research to keep us busy."

Thomas looked at the student first and then looked at Sarah standing beside him and then looked back to stare Robert.

"You guys have past achievements?" Thomas questioned.

Robert looked at him—his face was all red not in embarrassment but in anger.

Sarah understood the situation and she slowly pushed Robert out of the class, "Meet us back in the lab after your class." Sarah told Thomas and closed the door.

Thomas nodded and then looks at the student crowd, "Alright, let's begin with our topic—Fourth Dimension."

He entertained his class for the next two and a half hour and then he finally concluded the class with one final line, "We don't know what is beyond the horizon of time, and we fear what we don't know."

The students were amazed, having fun the entire time. They thanked Thomas and reminded him to thank Sarah and Robert for sharing their stories.

Thomas had a cup of water and then he left the room and he didn't need to travel far since their lab was on underground floor in the Baxter auditorium.

The lift's gate opens up and his eyes immediately lit up—the lights, the chemicals and the heavy machines all the stuff he needed to cheer up was there.

"Robert? Sarah?" he yelled when he didn't see them both.

"Yes!" the female voice replied back from a different room.

Thomas had a cup of water and then he left the room and he didn't need to travel more since their lab was on underground floor in the Baxter auditorium.

The lift's gate opens up and his eyes immediately glowed up—the lights, the chemicals and the heavy machines all the stuff he needed to cheer up was there.

"Robert? Sarah?" he yelled when he didn't saw them both.

"Yes!" the female voice replied back from a different room.

"Thomas moved toward the voice asking, "Where are you?"

Sarah replied, "In the observatory room"

Thomas moved towards the observatory room and opened the door while saying, "Why are you in the observatory room?"

When he opened the door, he saw a smile and curiosity on Robert's face—his face was looking at the transparent glass chamber.

"What? What are you guys watching?" Thomas questioned.

Sarah smiled and said, "Just look it yourself."

Robert looked at Thomas and he couldn't form words due to excitement, "T-Thomas, the e-element… it i-is showing in-incredible properties."

Thomas was excited to see the properties which shook Robert; he came forward and looked at the transparent glass chamber.

Inside the chamber was a dark coloured liquid—it was behaving different from the other liquids at rest which shook Thomas' mind.

"What is happening in there?" Thomas questioned.

Sarah excitedly replied, "It is looping back."

"Looping back?" Thomas questioned.

Robert looked at Thomas and replied, "We were at your class to tell you about this only—our element loops back in time to reach in its prior stable form."

Thomas' eyes opened up wide and even he was lost for words, "D-does that mean…its ti-time travelling element?"

Sarah and Robert both nodded and with that clarification he dropped to his knees and looked down.

He rested his arms on the back of his head and questions, "What about the paradoxes? Like grandfather paradox?"

Robert replied, "We don't know, so we need your help in creating an understandable theory."

Thomas asked, "Theory for what? Unexplainable element?"

Sarah replied, "A time machine—to convince government to allocate funds for the biggest project in the history of mankind."

Thomas looked up, both Sarah and Robert staring at him for an answer, "Time Machine?" he asked—his voice excited and yet confused.
