As Fabel continued to cry, some of the nearby children glanced at him, understanding that he got separated from his own parents. He wiped away his tears but the tears wouldn't stop.
Not knowing anything about life and be separated from the one and only person he knew, he couldn't help but feel scared and fearful of the future ahead. The excitement about seeing the world couldn't overcome his sense of loss from losing the only person in the world that he knew. He could only encourage himself by relentlessly telling himself that he would meet new people.
Not too long after he thought this, the adult in front of the crowd holding a pole with a fabric on it spoke.
"Alright everyone, it's finally time to start the guide for the academy!" He raised his voice loud enough for everyone nearby to hear him. He lifted the banner in the air displaying the symbol of the academy.
The symbol representing Resonance Academy was an opened book with multiple hands surrounding it. A sign of multiple people seeking knowledge.
The man placed the banner on his shoulders and marched forward, the crowd following him. He begun to tell everyone that the academy was sectionized into districts. The academy had a total of 16 districts, all labeled 1 through 16. Each district had a ranking based on the performance of three factors.
First, financial ranking, based on the income, market and expenses the distract had accumulated on an annual basis. Every year the academy's top professors would report their district's financial data to have it be ranked.
Of course, there will always be a reward based on these rankings. If a district was ranked first for financials, that district will be allocated more slots for people to be administrated into their district. Although the academy itself was very large, it had limited slots due to the amount of demand it held.
Typically, only the top 5% of people in the continent could even apply, with only 10% of those actually being qualified to be join.
The rankings were separated into Top, upper, lower, and bottom. Only having 4 districts for each ranked sections. Those ranked at the top were allowed to accept 1500 new children. Upper ranked districts were allowed to accept 1250, lower only 1000. And bottom with a meager 500.
The district where Fabel was getting his guide was currently in district 8, the district where he'll be receiving his education from. District 8 was notorious for being a consistent lower ranked in financials but ranked highly in other categories.
The second factor to rank performance was education. The ranking for education was slightly more difficult since the way the academy determined it was unique.
Using a point system, if a student at the academy accumulated enough to become a professor for their district, choosing to not graduate, then it can be contributed to the district's education rankings.
The issue with this would be a student's decision to remain at the academy or to leave the academy. The academy doesn't promote students to stay, nor do they ask them to leave upon obtaining a proficient amount of knowledge, power, and financials.
The way the education rankings work for the districts is to equate every new professor in that year to a point. The rankings were simply determined by which district had the most to the least with each ranking receiving it's respected benefit.
The bottom 10 districts wouldn't receive any benefit as the academy strongly supports knowledge importance in comparison to financials. Those ranked 4 through 6 receive an additional 10% budget for research funding. Ranked 3 receives 15%, ranked 2 receives 20% and lastly, ranked 1 receives 25%.
The base amount of research funding for each district would be at 100 billion jades. The sheer amount of funding that these exceed any other city in the entire continent, most cities can't even generate more than 10 billion jades, let alone 100 billion of them. This was only a testament to how power Resonance academy was.
As the guide continued moving the crowd forward, pointing out directions of residential area, malls that contain food courts, shopping hub and other things to use with money, he reached one particular area that stood out.
"This right here is the district's proud combat training campus." A large campus specifically for combat instructions and practice.
With close to 100 practice areas for students to enter, there were 40 large classrooms all around the place for students to learn combat.
Combat, this was largely determined the performance rankings for districts as Resonance academy put a significant emphasis on this category.
Long ago before Resonance academy existed, the world was at peace. It all changed when the world suddenly got hit was a massive gravity change that made everyone bow on their knees, most even being pressed flat to the ground.
As if the world was grabbed, everyone in the world could feel a shift in the world as the clouds that were once there vanished only to be replaced with dazzling stars that filled the sky, various colors that the once blue sky couldn't resemble.
The most shocking change wasn't the shift in the sky, it was the cracks that formed in the sky, the sudden earthquakes that shook the earth, and the mutations in the environment.
It was at that point that beings descended from the cracks in groups, monsters emerging from the cracks leftover by the earthquakes, and the sudden production of Qi from plants all around the world that sprung the world into what is known as 'Cultivation Takeover'.
Back then, it was the job of these 'cultivators' to slay the monsters, educate the natives, and to bridge the dimensions together.
The world as they knew suddenly became multiple times larger than it once was and became the central hub of the entire universe.
No being could comprehend the magnitude the world had changed into with less than 2% of the world being documented for the human natives.
To assist the human natives, cultivators from other worlds had come together to create the institution known as Resonance Academy. The name attesting to the new era that is 'Cultivation Takeover'.
Thanks to the brief history session the guide spurred onto the young crowd behind him, everyone had begun to imagine the world but their imaginations limited to only the academy.
A little bit of guided thinking inspired by the guide but insightful to these kids to develop affection for the academy.
The guide didn't continue on too much about the history of the academy and had simply brought the crowd all around the campus for combat and shown some of the normal classes for education.
It didn't go without saying that the guide had concluded the tour of district 8 by ending it at the central park where many gather. He shortly pointed in the direction of the building where these newly enrolled students can register their housing for their long and prosperous academic life.
Fabel couldn't help but to look around the large park they had ended at though, looking around before going to the housing registry. Walking over to a pavilion where seemingly flickering texts were held.
Walking up to it, he read the rankings of the district, showing district 8 was ranked 13th for financials, ranked 5th for education, and ranked 2nd for power.
The way Resonance Academy had ranked power was quite unique. The power ranking wasn't exactly allocated any benefits for it's placements but it was more or less a group ranking that grouped together individuals.
The power ranking displayed individuals that were admitted into that district. Anyone in the power ranking was ranked as long as they had their academy badge with them. Regardless of if that person was in or out of the academy, they can still be ranked.
Because of the significance that power held in this world, the academy had placed it on top in the deciding factors to determine the district rankings.
District rankings simply compiled all the points from all cultivators registered on the ranking board and compared it with other districts. Although the power rankings were pretty much unbeneficial, it contributed to the academy's reputation.
Fabel trying to understand these board, not understanding the significance of these rankings couldn't help but look at a large number on one of these holograms.
"District rank: 1"
