Chapter 4 - Learning about being a student

Fabel sat back down in his room, glancing around and couldn't help but feel a slight disappointment in the size of it. He had quickly showed and dried off and sprinted back into his room praying no one saw him in his bathroom.

Now that he sat down, he didn't know what to expect from this place as he had never even heard of it prior to today, let alone known anything about the world until that small history brief by the guide.

Thinking for a while, he decided to head back into the bathroom. Rather than doing anything in the bathroom, he simply decided to sit at the edge where the view of the academy was.

Watching the sun set as the night begin to set in, he saw the district begin to light up as night lights were being turned on. soon, the entire city was lit was lighting from all around, decorating it with a glow that stood out compared to his small house where only him and his bathroom lights displayed any shine.

Fabel simply sat there for hours, staring at the district seeing things come and go. Looking at the night become engulfed with people as nightlife had officially commenced for the district. Never known about the nightlife he simply sat and watched, intrigued by the way people lived.

Far too little he knew about the world, let alone people. To him, watching people move around in the night was more entertaining than the little view that he had of whatever his window allowed him. One day, he too wished to move about at night and experience the world. Satisfied with this new proposition in his mind, he turned around to leave the bathroom to rest for the next day.

----

Waking up groggily, he was startled awake by loud banging on his door. He could hear voices shouting outside not knowing what to do, he decided to open the door and see what was going on.

Upon opening the door, what greeted him were groups of people staring at him. The man closest to him was the one who spoke first.

"Hey kid, let us in already. We're here to deliver the things that you ordered."

Feeling confused by this piece of information he didn't recall what was going on until the group of people had entered the house and looked around, noting that the inside was small and then entered the backyard where they proceeded to extract objects from the air and then leaving.

Feeling shocked about how everything went down, he walked towards the backyard and saw rows of objects, some familiar and some new to him. He saw a fridge, table, chairs, and more. Some were objects that seemingly had a purpose while the majority of other things were just boxes that contained objects.

Opening the boxes, he saw many small objects that seemed to have very small use to him. Tape, string, paper, pencil, pens, and many more unidentifiable things. Leaving them in the box, he set them aside in a random corner of his backyard, unsure of what to do with everything he got.

The thing that surprised him the most was that everything that got delivered to him didn't need anything to power them unlike his home back in Pillar City. For now, he would just do his best to drag things around, building up a sweat and declaring the job finished when he saw how everything were grouped up in their own categories.

Retreating to his house, he noticed something on the ground in front of his door. He saw it was a large folded paper and decided to pick it up.

Once unfolded, it displayed a map that contained bits and pieces of information about the academy. Written on it was essentially a map that students could hang in their rooms as basic guidance for newcomers.

The map displayed names of buildings and some highlighted key points where students should go to if they were to need something specific. Most importantly, it noted how there'd be an orientation for newcomers over the course of 2 days, today and tomorrow.

Noting the importance of orientation, he decided to attend the afternoon session as he had already spent his entire morning moving things left and right. Finding some tape to pin the map on the wall, he simply placed it along the wall next to his desk and decided to take a quick shower to get rid of the sweat.

----

Running towards the building known as 'Education Building', Fabel was running late by 10 minutes since he had no idea how far it was in comparison to his residential area. He too saw many other students running in a direction and just simply followed them.

Upon arrival, he noticed that the professor for this orientation was already presenting the basic layout of the entire district. Finding an empty place to sit, he simply tucked into a corner and smoothly joining everyone else that had newly arrived as well.

The professor had noted 3 simple key important details, First being the bank or the student balance. This was the area where students would manage their cash and handle their financials. Second, Education hall where students would pay to attend classes. Most classes would have a sign that displays the course content of said class and the time slots of when that class would be hosted. Third, Combat zone or the combat campus. This is where a vast majority of students would be spending their time at since this is one of the main reasons for students entering the academy for.

The combat zone was quite unique in this district, it was a highly advanced education place for students that are dreaming of becoming strong in the future. Inside of it contained, a library for students to study techniques, a practice area where AI assistance played a role to aid these students, and professors where they'd help students take exams and assessments. Professors more or less lived within the combat zone as they were given residential areas near it so they could live for convenience.

Overall, the professor didn't exactly elaborate much as the whatever else within the district was purely student guided activities, nothing to do with education or the academy's purpose. Dismissing the students to explore the district, he left and the students inside began to discuss vividly what they thought and even became friends with one another.

Feeling left out, Fabel didn't really know what to do as this was his first time in a social space with others. He decided to walk up to a group where boys were trying to join in. After lingering around the outskirts of the discussion, he could only pick up bits and pieces of information such as, going to the shopping district or going to Combat Zone. Nothing too note worthy.

Feeling that there was no other reason to linger, he decided to leave and go straight to the bank. On his way to the bank, he couldn't help but think about how much money he would have since it was his first time handling money.

When he finally arrived at the bank after a short walk, he entered and decided to ask about receiving basic guidance for both financials and bank instructions.

"To start, this bank is the main central hub for the entire district. When it comes to money, you can feel free to come here to check on your student balance or deposit or withdraw money for your necessities."

"Although we're known as the central hub for banks, we're pretty much the only academy run bank as other banks are more or less student run for their own independent businesses. They'll be more convenient for their respective areas as this bank is more or less out of reach for the outskirts of the district.

Giving a short rundown of the bank, the man who was informing Fabel smiled calmly as he nodded once more after Fabel looked like he finished absorbing the information.

"To start off, we have our currency broken down into many stages. Normally students would be earning Tokens, these Tokens are used commonly for shopping and purchasing items. Normally, students would pay 1,000 Tokens per class as tokens are easy to come by. Another form of currency is Talent points. Talent points are mainly used at Combat Zone to buy techniques and to pay AI to instruct you. Do note that if you wish to have a professor instruct you as well that would cost Talent points."

Once more, the man waited for Fabel to properly consume the information given and then continued forward.

"Tokens can be converted to Jade, or currency used for the outside world. The conversion rate of Token to Jade would 100,000 Tokens to 1 Jade. Do note that you cannot convert Jade into Tokens."

"Likewise, Tokens can be converted into Talent points at the ratio of 5,000 to 1, cannot be converted the other way around."

"Anymore questions before I move on to how the bank works?"
