That evening, Bruno's press conference filled the television screens.
The setup was simple, but it looked official enough. A long table stood in front of the cameras. Files were placed beside Bruno in neat stacks. His assistants had prepared the speech, and Senju had marked which pages could be shown without exposing too much.
Bruno sat in the middle.
The plain clothes were still there.
But today, his face looked harder.
"I did not come into this office to fight old fights," Bruno said into the microphones. "But after taking charge, we found files that cannot be ignored."
Reporters leaned forward.
Bruno lifted one folder.
"Repeated contracts. The same companies getting work again and again. Payments that do not match the work. Complaints closed without proper answers."
Cameras flashed.
Bruno continued, "This is public money. This is not one man's pocket."
One reporter raised his voice.
"Are you accusing former mayor Victor Gray of corruption?"
