Chapter 1 - Death

"Ready for our first time, darling?"

"Yes, sweetheart!"

A young man and woman stepped out of a luxurious Rolls Royce and entered the love hotel.

The young man was handsome and clearly wealthy, while the woman was stunningly beautiful.

She had pale white skin, golden blonde hair, a curvy figure, that accentuated by the top and shor skirts she wore.

She clung to the young man like glue.

Her face was full of smiles, satisfaction, and a hint of shyness, like that of a pure maiden.

The young man was ecstatic.

After all, tonight he would finally pop the cherry he had long desired.

The couple were happy and satisfied, unaware of the hollow eyes watching them from a distance.

"Amara..."

A young man muttered in a dull voice, his heartache too deep to be spoken through words or outrage.

"I was right... I don't deserve this happiness," Dave whispered. "A useless person like me doesn't have the right to be beside you."

He tightened his grip on the pendant in his hand, the veins on his arm bulging with the force.

Then, without hesitation, he threw it into a trash can. As it flew through the air, the pendant snapped open, revealing a photo of Amara and Dave smiling together.

It marked the end of a relationship once built on trust and love.

Dave might have looked calm and indifferent on the surface, but only he knew how much pain he was truly in.

They had been childhood friends, eventually becoming lovers through their mutual bond. He had trusted her completely.

But now, everything was over.

Trust was broken, and so was his heart.

He would never have believed that his 'Amara' could cheat on him.

Yet after seeing it with his own eyes, he had no choice but to accept the truth.

She had refused to be physically intimate with him, insisting on waiting. And yet here she was, spreading her legs for another man.

He should confront her.

He should demand answers, blame her for everything.

But he couldn't gather the courage.

Because deep down, he feared hearing the words he didn't want to face:

"Sorry, Dave. But you're a poor orphan, and I can't choose you anymore. It was my teenage ignorance that made me agree to this relationship back then.

But now I understand: this world doesn't run on emotions and love. It runs on money. So, I chose it."

Dave wasn't bad-looking, but he had the worst luck from the day he was born.

On the very day of his birth, his father died in a car accident, and his mother passed away from a heart attack after hearing the news.

They left Dave all alone in this world, forced to fend for himself. And instead of an inheritance, they left behind a mountain of debt.

Naturally, the bank confiscated their family home and sent Dave to a childcare orphanage.

As he grew up, he showed no extraordinary talents, no remarkable achievements in academics.

Despite all that, Amara — a girl from the neighborhood — somehow became his friend.

Eventually, they became childhood sweethearts.

Her laughter, her voice, her every little expression gave him the hope to live another day.

But alas, after she entered high school, her beauty bloomed in full splendor, attracting countless admirers.

Meanwhile, Dave became just another hard worker, giving everything he had to survive.

Still, their relationship continued, though their meetings and conversations gradually grew fewer and farther between.

Until today — today marked the end.

Each step he took along the walkway felt heavier, as if the whole world was closing in on him.

The pedestrians, the cars, the traffic lights — all became blurry in his vision.

The world was on one side, and he was on the other.

"Why was I born like this? Why can't I do a single thing right? Even she isn't with me anymore. What should I do?" he pondered, looking up at the sky.

"Hm..."

Just then, his eyes caught something — something small, like a meteor, falling down at an astonishing speed.

Dave's eyes widened in shock.

But the target wasn't him.

It was falling straight toward a little girl just ahead of him.

The others hadn't noticed yet.

The girl was playing on the walkway, unaware of the looming danger. Her death seemed certain. Horrifying.

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"

Only when the sound of the air splitting reached their ears did the pedestrians finally look up toward the sky.

But it was already too late.

The little girl stood frozen, her face paling in terror as the shadow descended over her.

"Boom!"

The small meteor-like object finally struck the ground.

Dust and debris exploded outward, and everyone in the surrounding area froze in shock.

Some stumbled backward, clutching their ears as the deafening impact made their eardrums tremble.

Several nearby even bled from their ears.

"Oh My God!"

As the dust began to clear, a terrifying sight unfolded before them.

The point of impact and the surrounding street were painted red. Blood and burnt flesh covered the scorched ground, spreading outward from the small crater.

Yet, surprisingly, the little girl was still alive.

She had been thrown clear from the epicenter at the very last moment.

But Dave was nowhere to be seen.

The little girl slowly stood up, her tiny frame trembling as she stared at the horrifying scene.

Then, overwhelmed by all this, she fainted.

In her fading consciousness, she remembered that there had been a big brother standing absentmindedly in front of her.

That big brother had saved her.

But he was no longer alive in this world.

For Dave, perhaps saving her had been intentional. A final selfless act from someone who no longer wished to live in loneliness.

Maybe, for him, it was the only choice he could make.
