Chapter 4 - Ashes [4]

But if one were to look properly, he was moving slowly but sharply. He was closing the distance. He was trying to distract Six before he could pound on him and end him once and for all.

But Six had kept his focus on Seven ever since he betrayed his teammate and killed two more after that.

He noticed the little action of Seven, foot in his direction, thighs and calves tightened, core engaged, his strong hold on his knife, his eyes finding a single opening; he could use it and finish his opponent.

'I wanted to have some fun with him too, but this guy is dangerous, and my one wrong step can cause my doom.' Seven thought as he showed that pathetic sight outside, to make six drop his guard.

And soon the opportunity arrived. Seven saw a gap in Six's stance; his right hand – the one holding a knife – was stationed around his waist, leaving his upper body defenceless.

Seven soon closed the gap between them, and when he was in range, where he was confident enough to finish Six, he moved.

The tension in his legs released as he exploded towards Six, his knife held high, going straight to Six's neck.

Seeing Seven attacking, Six also moved, and this was still within Seven's calculation, as he thought Six would move to defend himself by attacking Seven, but since the knife was away, at max it will deeply injure Seven before he finishes Six.

Six was waiting for Seven to strike, and he intentionally created that opening, and as soon as Seven took the bait, Six started his plan. When Seven attacked him, he moved his hand, making Seven think he was going to use his knife to defend.

But just when Seven was at arm's distance, Six went to a kneeling position, and Seven's attack passed through a vacant space, where once Six's head was. Then, Six plunged his knife straight into Seven's unguarded torso.

"Ahhhhhhhhh!" The strike punctured Seven's heart; he fell on the ground, and soon enough his body went limp after a few seconds.

Only after confirming Seven's death did Six release the breath he didn't even know he was holding; he then took out his knife from Seven's dead body.

.....

"So I haven't lost my touch yet." The fat guy chuckled to himself as only the two he had his eyes on survived in the end. To him, the means doesn't matter, as he was a firm believer in 'getting the last laugh'. Then he looked at his side, his old friend, the skinny guy, though he was a man of few words. Actually replied,

"Potential." The skinny guy said in a hoarse tone; he only said one word, but for those who know him, they can understand the meaning behind this word.

Even the fat guy was shocked. And by the time he came out of his stupor, the skinny guy was back to his usual self. Noticing this change, the fat guy went back to the scene in front of him, waiting for the final showdown of this trial.

"Now, how will the final showdown be? Though that kid died, he did entertain me." Saying so, the fat guy focused back on the kids in front of him.

Six, after killing Seven, looked at the only remaining participant, the kid sitting by the wall; she was a weak, frail girl, clearly malnourished by the looks of her body's condition – skinny arms, legs, and sunken cheeks – but one thing that stood out was her hair. long flowing red hairs, long enough to reach her buttock.

As for her current condition, though she had long since stopped crying, the trembling of her body was still here. From time to time her body shuddered. Six looked at Three.

Her face, which was small, was filled with baby fat. If he had the choice, he didn't want to kill her, but he didn't have much choice.

Only one of them can proceed to the next round.

*huff*

Six took a long breath and started heading towards three. Three sensing six coming towards her shuddered, looking at the bloodied knife. That thought of death scared her. She used all her willpower just to move from her position, but it was to no avail. Her body was not responding to her command.

Her pupil darted from left to right, scanning the room as if finding something that could help her escape this situation, something that could help her move her body.

Six, though, thought her not moving was odd, but he didn't care much about it, as the sooner he finished it, the better for him, and he also wanted her to at atleast die without much pain.

But the two supervisors noticed the change. They were at a level where they could easily notice things that are not possible with mortals' eyes.

Seeing that something was wrong, they both got ready to take action at any moment.

unaware of all these things, Six soon reached the unmoving three.

"Sorry, I don't have a choice." Saying so, he attacked, aiming to finish three and end the trial once and for all.

As Six drew near, something stirred deep within Three, something from the very depth of her being; she tried to control it, but she failed to do so. As Six neared her, the feeling increased; Three didn't even realise, but she was completely lost in this feeling, her fear of death and the feeling she had when she was not able to control her body. They all were for naught.

She was so submerged in this warmth, this feeling, she didn't even notice that Six was upon her; she didn't hear the word he said to her. All she was thinking of was the bliss she was feeling, the warmth enveloping her.

But suddenly the feeling changed; the warmth that was making her feel alive completely changed, changed into something violent. It started with a flicker, but soon it turned into a blazing inferno, and she felt as if her entire being was on fire. The pain was so much that all she could wish for was her own death.
