"Shit!" Devlin cursed under his breath as Darkin pinned Evangeline to the ground. So there was no Queen Wolf. No hidden power or whatsoever. He thought, but then they heard a faint growl of a wolf.
Ezaar, however… He felt as though his heart had stopped beating. His wolf—whining and snarling moments ago suddenly went silent. It was numb, hollow, as though it had lost the hope to live.
Devlin tried to hear the noise again, but everything became dead silent. Evangeline wasn't shifting at all, enduring as Darkin's claws ripped into her flesh. "You were wrong, Alpha," he growled. "The rumors were true. She's wolfless."
Ezaar didn't respond, his mind clouded to think of anything.
Devlin, who was focused on the scene, didn't notice his Alpha's new predicament. "But she'll be dead soon. That's a victory, too." Turning to Ezaar, he mused, "Should I prepare her body for delivery to that Bastard Graham?"
"Maybe we should consider some using the same coffin-"
