VIKTOR
I became a ghost in the boardroom.
It was a tactical adjustment. Before Tokyo, my role had been perimeter defense. A shadow at the door, a presence in the hallway, a threat assessed and neutralized from a distance. Now, after seeing the way the wolves had circled him in Geneva, after witnessing the particular brand of corporate bloodsport they practiced, I changed the rules of engagement.
I didn't stand by the door. I stood inside the room. I chose a position against the wall, slightly behind Kairen's left shoulder, where I could see the entire table and the door. I was a silent, unmoving fixture in a room of expensive suits and shifting allegiances.
