Chapter 8 - Episode 5: Thoughtful Night

I was looking at my room. I already had my own room in both my previous world and this world. Therefore, I was familiar with the appearance of the Academy room. It had a single bed, some drawers, a closet for my clothes, and a desk to work at. There was also a carpet, a desk lamp, and a decorative item resembling a trinket. The bulb in the room illuminated everything nicely. Luckily, I had gotten a room with a window. This way, I could look outside to see what was happening. By the time I entered the dormitory where our rooms were located, it was already getting dark. After the opening ceremony, we were all given a bracelet. Through this bracelet, I learned where my room was, and my chances of getting lost in the huge dorm building were minimized. Moreover, free meal service was provided all the way to the rooms in this dormitory.

A few minutes after I entered, someone knocked on the door and my dinner was delivered to me. There was a white soup plate, sautéed vegetables, juicy meatballs, and fruit juice. The dinner wasn't bad but I felt that I would occasionally miss my mother's cooking.

After eating my meal, I placed my bag, which I had put in one corner of the bed, on the bed and began to take out its contents. This was not an ordinary bag. My father's bag could hold more items than it appeared. I took out a few clothes and shoes from the bag and put them in the closet. Inside the closet, three academy uniforms were neatly waiting. It was obvious that we would wear these during our academy days. After putting everything in place, I returned to my bag and took out a hammer, two steel ingots, some gold dust, and iron ores. These were gifts from master Marcus. He had been both happy and sad when he heard that I would be going to the a Academy. He was happy because he knew such an opportunity would only come once, and he was sad because he had very little chance of leaving his blacksmith to me.

After putting these items in the drawers, I thought about whether I should do anything else. I decided to take a shower. It was great that each room had its own bathroom because that was a luxury I didn't even have in my own home. After taking my shower and feeling refreshed, I put on a blue t-shirt and black sweatpants. I checked my bag one last time. I had left my most important belongings inside the bag.

"Okay... All my money is here in my argent."

Just like your identity, your bank account was created by dropping a drop of your blood onto a marble slab. Every kingdom in the land of Heiben used the same currency. The name of this currency was kane. Argent, on the other hand, was like a bank card where your money was stored. To buy something or lend money to a friend, you simply bring the front of your argent close to the back of the other party's card. After a small flash, it would already be completed. Although I knew how much kane I had in my argent, it wouldn't hurt to check.

Account Name: Nell Warden

Amount of Kane: 50,000

I had saved this money for years, and every time I looked at it, I felt proud of myself. This amount was the same as my father's monthly salary from the army. Although we never faced financial hardship, saving money was a bit difficult. Of course, this amount of money wasn't even pocket change for a noble or a ritchi. I didn't know what to do with this money for now. Not wanting to lose it, I put it back in my bag.

"Our money is in place. Everything else is here. I can finally sleep."

I had said this to myself and lay down on my bed. My identity was now inside the wallistics, so I could check my information whenever I wanted. So I looked at my stats once again. My stats were the same as usual. I had seen my sub-stats related to strength and wanted to see my other sub-stats. I could clearly see all my sub-stats.

Strength: F-

- Physical Strength: 12 (F-)

- Strike Power: 9 (F-)

Agility: F

- Speed: 15 (F-)

- Dexterity: 25 (F)

Intelligence: F+

- Knowledge: 43 (F)

- Logic: 33 (F)

Endurance: F

- Defense: 38 (F)

- Resistance: 2 (F-)

Charisma: E

- Persuasion: 30 (F)

- Appearance: 100 (E-)

Magic: E-

- Magic Power: 29 (F)

- Magic Control: 76 (F+)

Everything was very clear. I needed to decide how I should develop myself. I wanted to be ready enough to embark on an adventure. Unfortunately, my weakness in the strength area was evident but surprisingly, I seemed to be skilled in magic.

The lowest tier, F, also indicated that you were ordinary. This was because someone at a creative level of F saw themselves in this position. According to belief, if you thought you were below F, you were technically not living. You were just a "thing" that consumed the oxygen in the air. It's pointless to fall into despair.

Therefore, being at level E in magic meant that I had some potential and I thought about advancing in this area. Then I looked at my endurance stat and furrowed my brows. I might have been skilled in magic but my resistance to it was incredibly low. One of the most important traits of a magician was their capacity to resist magic. Only they could withstand mental attacks or other kinds of treachery, and being weak in this regard was not pleasant at all.

After thinking for a few minutes, I identified two paths for myself. The first path was for physical fundamentals. I could try to raise my strength stat as much as possible while also developing agility and endurance without neglecting them. This seemed easy to do, but I didn't know how long the road would be. That's why I was reluctant to pursue it. The other path seemed more appealing, which could be the key point here. As you might guess, the other path led to magic. I already seemed to have a foundation for magic. I just needed to find a way to improve my resistance.

However, due to the complex nature of magic, I needed to take my steps carefully. I would begin to take the first step now. Since there were no my class, the doors to the my class path were closed to me for the time being. Therefore, I started to take my steps toward the magic path.

What we call magic is a power that exists within all of us. We draw magic, an unseen force that is present around us, into our own bodies. This was the answer I received when I asked what magic was as a young child.

The fact that magic exists within all of us does not mean that we can all use it. Many people cannot unlock the magic within them. My father was a good warrior and soldier, but he could not use magic. My mother's magic allowed her to perform household chores more quickly, like pulling a nearby broom toward her or lighting the fire in the fireplace. My sister, on the other hand, did not seem to have an interest in magic. Looking at what I have just described, one might fall into the illusion that magic is something simple.

But it is never simple.

At this point, the magical abilities, which we now call the magic path, come into play. Magic essentially holds nothing. This form of magic is nothing but a white shimmer. Deciding the shape of your magic is entirely up to you. For example, if you love fireballs, you regularly transform your magic into flames. At this point, magic takes shape according to what you care about and your personality. The foundation you lay down gradually becomes your routine. A fire mage might suddenly use water magic to surprise you, but the amount of magic, time, and power required to create water magic is less effective compared to fire magic. The same applies to a water mage suddenly using fire magic. In short, there is no inheritance in magic. A user of earth magic can suddenly emerge from a noble family known for wind magic. The way magic takes shape is in your hands, and if you take a wrong step, you can ruin all your potential.

This was the reason I had deliberately avoided magic for so long. Now that I had the opportunity to see the nature of magic, there was no point in delaying it any longer.

Even if I did nothing, I believed that my personality must have inclined my magic toward a certain area. To find out which area I was more inclined to, I began to focus on the magic stats within my eyes. I needed the help of magic to reach magic path. I wanted it to reveal itself for me but the process took longer than I had anticipated. Finally, a gap formed beneath the section where the magic was, and a new chart began to take shape there. "There it is!" I shouted internally. I would finally be able to see my magic path.

Magic Path:

- No specialization in any type of magic has been determined.

- Your potential in magic has not been determined.

- You have an affinity for natural magics.

- Be respectful of magic.

The first two articles were as I expected. Since I had never really engaged with magic, I didn't have any specialization in it. Because of this lack of engagement, my potential had naturally not been determined either. The third article indicated which type of magic I was more inclined toward based on my personality. I had an affinity for a general type rather than a specific type of magic. This meant that I wouldn't have any trouble learning about any element in nature. I could have chosen to create my own magic instead of following this path. Such magical arts are artificial, and some people specialize in this kind of magic. I had once heard of a magic called string magic. For now, artificial magics did not interest me. Therefore, it made more sense to work with natural elements.

The last article was a bit thought-provoking.

I was still trying to grasp the meaning of this item. I understood what it meant but I didn't know how to accomplish it. I didn't know what would happen if I inadvertently disrespected magic. The magic path explained not only the path of development but also the potential obstacles along that path. I didn't even want to think about what would happen if I did something without knowing this and disrespected magic. Magic is as beautiful but it is terrifying.

"Thinking this much is giving me a headache. I'd better get some sleep."

I pulled the blanket over me and turned on my side in bed. I replayed the events from the opening ceremony over and over in my mind. The most memorable moments of the day were when Viola spoke to me. I remembered that the last time I saw her, her face was tearful and that struck me as strange. I tried not to think about it and focused on falling asleep. Even whether we would end up in the same classroom was a mystery, wasn't it?
