Chapter 15 - Facing a Golden Serpent

I woke up the next day hoping to craft an armour for myself. I left the village and ventured into the mines to look for raw materials for the armour. I carried my swords on my back. The golems had brought back some fresh deer meat a few days ago. I saved the skin and after drying it in the sun, I was able to make a makeshift sheath for the swords with the hide and some string that I made by twisting wild creeper plants. I carried both swords in the sheath.

I walked around the mine, picking up and examining several ores. I wanted to make an armour that was not only durable but also was also light like clothes. I didn't want to roam around half naked all the time, especially when I was in an environment where I expected danger from time to time. There were several ores that seemed promising to me but somehow I felt due to my blacksmith sense that these when crafted into armour might prove too heavy to move about in. I wished that I had reincarnated with my hoodie outfit. In the shape I was in now, I felt like I was being ogled at by some great cosmic eye. I had a good sturdy body, but at the same time, I felt very...exposed.

All of a sudden, I felt a slight rumbling around me. I knew it wasn't because of hunger because I'd had a good meal that morning. This was further confirmed when I heard a monstrous snarl. I reached a corner and found myself facing a ginormous golden serpent. I immediately drew my sword and got behind the rock. It seemed like the beast hadn't noticed me yet. It was uncoiling and coiling itself as if it was trying to make itself comfortable as it settled down to relax.

I had no idea what kind of creature this was. I had never encountered beasts like this when I had played the game. There were only military characters, villager characters, buildings, ships and heavy artillery units. But this was a whole new level! Was the game somehow evolving on its own? I was curious to know exactly what it was that I was going up against. I carefully peeked from the corner of my hiding place. The serpent was not moving. It looked as though it had drifted off to sleep. I wondered how I could gather details about this monster.

Back when I played the game, I would usually click on things and people with my mouse and I was able to see the profile of whatever it was that I had clicked upon. I wondered how to do the same here. There was no mouse for me to use. I thought of my own status. It occurred to me that up until this time, I hadn't even checked out my own profile yet. I went through my status window and checked my detailed profile. The Stats were shown as "???" and health bar showed "100/100". My Job status was shown as "Explorer". I knew that it would change depending on what activity I was doing at the moment. Coming back to the golden serpent, I knew there was no other way I could ascertain its status without touching it.

Very carefully and stealthily, i tread closer and closer to the sleeping reptile. I moved toward the left, to avoid its head. once quite near, I placed my palm upon the skin. It felt very hard like actual metal. I mentally thought "Status" and immediately, the box appeared before me, but this time it showed the status of the serpent. To my surprise, I found that the status box could not identify the serpent as well. The name showed "???" and even the health showed the same. Deciding to myself that this was not an opponent I wanted to face, I carefully stepped away from it. going a little distance away and concluding that i was at a safe zone from the creature, i turned and hit myself hard against a stalagmite.

The rockface broke off and crashed to the ground with a loud bang. And soon I turned to see the Serpent's eye opening and noticing me, much to my horror.
