At this point, Harrison had a growing sense that something was about to go wrong.
Setting off fireworks in front of the Rensa Group building, deliberately exposing themselves to lead Bruce to the gas station—these actions had all been deliberate. Harrison had already figured it out.
"Bruce, Kaitō Kid would never do something meaningless. Did you find anything at the gas station?"
It was better not to mention the gas station, but as soon as it was brought up, Bruce was furious.
Until now, Bruce was still covered in dust and looked terribly disheveled.
"We found a lot of dummies left behind by Kaitō Kid at the gas station, which wasted a lot of our energy!"
"Harrison, you're right, Kaitō Kid's target must be the Rensa Group vault. His exposure was just to distract us!"
At this point, if Bruce still couldn't figure out Zhang Yang's plan, he would no longer be worthy of the title of the top agent in Eagle Nation.
As they were talking, the Rensa Group building's lights turned back on.
Bruce and Harrison immediately rushed to the desk, opening the computer to check the vault's surveillance.
At first glance, everything seemed normal, because when Zhang Yang left, he had closed the vault door and the alloy steel door at the hallway entrance.
Suddenly, Bruce's pupils shrank as he spotted the iris scanner Zhang Yang had yanked off the floor.
"We're in trouble!"
"Harrison, Kaitō Kid has already entered the vault!"
Upon hearing this, Bud's previously confident demeanor instantly vanished, and he rushed over, panicked.
"What?!"
"How did he get in?"
Bruce pointed at the iris scanner on the floor, making Bud realize it was true.
For a moment, Bud was completely rattled. There were too many things inside the vault that could ruin him.
Any slip-up could lead to his fall from his current position, leaving him utterly destroyed.
The fact that Davis had gone to Kaitō Kid to steal a USB drive already showed that people like him feared nothing more than leaving evidence behind.
Bud immediately ran out of the office, and Bruce and Harrison quickly followed. The three of them took the elevator up to the 33rd floor.
As the elevator doors opened, the two tigers immediately walked over.
Bud stepped out of the elevator, his gaze toward the tigers complicated.
Right now, he wasn't concerned with how Kaitō Kid had dealt with the tigers. His mind was focused solely on the contents of the vault.
Just as Bruce took a step out of the elevator, the two tigers immediately turned around, baring their teeth in a fierce warning.
Tigers had a strong territorial instinct. To them, Bruce was an intruder.
Harrison stopped Bruce and pulled him back into the elevator.
"Don't go out yet!"
"Just because these tigers don't attack Bud doesn't mean they won't attack us!"
Though it was a bit embarrassing, Bruce didn't want to challenge the tigers. Moreover, there were two of them.
"Mr. Bud, I think it's better if we go in together. Maybe Kaitō Kid is still inside!"
After Bud opened the titanium alloy steel door to the spiral hallway, he completely ignored Harrison's words and decisively walked inside alone.
After passing several iris scanners, Bud quickly reached the final hallway, which was equipped with high-voltage electricity.
The iris scanner on the wall had already been yanked off by Zhang Yang, and only a few exposed wires remained.
Perhaps due to his anger or the mistaken belief that the removal of the iris scanner disabled the high-voltage security system, Bud walked into the hallway without hesitation.
The moment his right foot hit the ground, a terrifying high-voltage arc struck from all sides.
"Boom—"
The terrifying electric sparks flashed, and Bud was blasted out of the hallway by the high-voltage arc, crashing to the ground, his body charred black.
However, Harrison and Bruce had no idea that Bud had already been hurt. Outside the elevator, the two tigers were crouched on the ground, glaring at them. Harrison and Bruce didn't dare to make a move.
They waited for a full half hour. Bruce couldn't wait any longer.
"Harrison, Bud still hasn't come out. Could something have happened?"
"Is it possible that Kaitō Kid is still in the vault, and Bud has been captured by him?"
Bruce's imagination was quite rich, but it was also reasonable, and Harrison agreed.
"It's not impossible!"
"But we need to figure out how to deal with these two tigers. Otherwise, we won't even be able to get out of the elevator!"
Bruce immediately contacted the nearest Enforcement Bureau, requesting two tranquilizer guns.
After waiting for more than ten minutes for the Enforcement Bureau, they still hadn't been able to get Bud to come out.
This only made Bruce more convinced that something had happened to Bud.
When the Enforcement Bureau finally brought the tranquilizer guns, they realized there was no way to get them up to the 33rd floor.
Only Bud's access card could take the elevator to that floor.
The stairs were walled off, and the inner steel plates were clearly visible. Brute force couldn't break through.
"Harrison, if they show any signs of attacking, we'll have no choice but to shoot!"
Bruce pulled out his gun, and at this point, there was only one way left.
Harrison nodded in agreement and pulled out his own gun, ready to step out of the elevator with Bruce.
But as soon as they moved, it alerted the two tigers.
Bruce and Harrison exchanged a glance, carefully stepping out.
"Roar..."
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
As soon as the tigers let out a roar and lunged toward them, Bruce and Harrison decisively opened fire.
Even the large tigers, after taking several shots to the head, could only stagger and collapse into a pool of blood.
The second tiger, seeing its companion fall, bared its teeth and pounced.
After several more gunshots, both tigers were down, blood spilling everywhere.
Bruce and Harrison were filled with mixed emotions. Their hearts were heavy as they walked into the vault corridor.
The security system had already been deactivated by Bud's iris scan, so it was in a dormant state, allowing them to quickly find Bud lying on the ground.
"Oh shit!"
"What happened?"
Bruce's shock was written all over his face when he saw the charred body of Bud.
The two of them cautiously stopped in place, afraid they might meet the same fate as Bud.
They knew exactly what caused Bud's current state.
"Bruce, he's beyond saving. Don't take any risks!"
"The vault has already been robbed. Let the professionals handle this!"
Now, Bruce and Harrison understood why the iris scanner was on the floor. It was Zhang Yang testing the high-voltage trap.
"Damn it!"
"This was Bud's place. Why did he die in his own trap?"
Bruce was furious. Not only had they failed to capture Kaitō Kid, but someone had lost their life as well.
Failure, absolute failure!
Harrison took a bullet from the magazine, knelt down, and slid the bullet along the floor until it hit Bud, where it stopped.
"We should be safe from here. I hope his access card still works!"
Harrison quickly walked over, but when he touched Bud's charred clothes, they disintegrated. The access card had also been severely deformed and burned.
