"What catch?". Paola turned her head to the side a little bit as she asked Foxy.
"Woah". Paola covered her mouth using her palms as she exclaimed.
After she removed her palms from her mouth, she leaned close to Foxy, who retreated a step away from her.
"It is simply level one, and I can already use you to do all these things you have just mentioned. Then what would happen if I advanced to level two and other higher levels? Unbelievable. I can't believe I am about to say this, but I think I have finally hit the jackpot". Paola said. Her eyes were sparkling and full of life.
'If this is the case, I will finally become extremely rich without depending on anyone. I will be able to live the life I have always wished to live. I will be able to travel around the world without thinking about expenses!'. Paola thought to herself, causing her eyes to sparkle even more.
She suddenly rose to her feet.
She stared around her room and couldn't help but smile. Although the room was sort of tiny, everything looked expensive.
Compared to her apartment, this place was paradise. The quietness and the noises of birds chirping made her feel like she was in another world.
She stood still for a while, and when Foxy asked her if she was alright, she turned to him and smiled widely.
Instead of answering Foxy's curious questions, Paola jumped around her tiny bedroom as she shouted to her heart's content, "Hahaha! The old me is dead starting from this very moment! Watch me climb up to wealth using my Cheat Farm System! In this new life, I will become the boss, not the employee!!".
She had realized and had accepted the fact that she had been given a new shot at life!
A knock was heard on the door, and Paola stopped jumping around the room and also stopped shouting.
Her gaze was focused on the exit door.
"Who could it be? Maybe it's Piper's grandpa. Yes, it should be him. After all, according to Piper's memories, grandpa had always lived here alone after his wife, grandma, died". She muttered, before she noticed that Foxy was trying to hide.
She wanted to ask him why he wanted to hide himself. That was until she recalled that although Foxy was a fox, he was nothing like the ordinary foxes everyone was familiar with. Foxes walk on their fours, but Foxy's posture looked like that of a human despite him looking like a fox.
"Go and hide in the wooden wardrobe quickly". Paola whispered to him. "But, aren't you a system? Don't you have extraordinary powers to do whatever you want? Or am I mistaken?". She asked him.
"Huh? Where did he go?". Paola was puzzled.
. Foxy replied to Paola, and recalling that her new grandpa was waiting outside her room, Paola hurried to the door and opened it for him.
"Gra-". As she saw him, she wanted to call him grandpa. But she couldn't complete her words because it seemed unfair. Piper was his real granddaughter, not her.
"Piper, my dear granddaughter, I hope I didn't wake you up from sleep?". Grandpa Dario asked her.
He was a 66-year-old man, and not a single piece of black hair was on his head. His hair was completely white.
It was awkward, but Paola had to reply to him because she didn't want to be rude. "You didn't wake me up, grand- grandpa. I was already awake". She said to him with a smile on her face.
'But wait, why does this grandpa look so familiar? I am aware that I now possess Piper's memories, but it feels like I have seen him somewhere before'. She thought to herself and maintained the smile on her face.
She didn't want her new grandpa to start suspecting her. After all, the real Piper loved to smile no matter what.
Even if the real Piper was going through difficult times, she loved to smile and pretend that everything was alright.
Paola only planned to act this way for her new grandpa, who seemed nice. Well, she just wanted to act this way towards him out of consideration. Since it was impossible for him to figure out that someone else had possessed his granddaughter's body.
As for the others, if they dared to annoy her, she would give them a piece of her mind. In her previous life, she had concealed her true nature because she wanted to please everyone and fit in.
Well, not anymore! She was sick and tired of that.
"In that case, come to the dining room for breakfast. I have already made breakfast for both of us". Grandpa Dario said to her.
Paola didn't know what happened, but tears started pouring out of her eyes, shocking her.
'Why am I crying?'. She asked herself in her mind and was confused.
Was it because she felt touched by Grandpa Dario's words? To others, Grandpa Dario's words might be a simple or a common word, but to her, she felt an emotion she had never felt in a long time after she left Albert and the orphanage. She felt loved.
"Piper, are you okay? Are you hurt? Did I say anything wrong?". Grandpa Dario asked her. He had this worried look in his eyes.
When Paola continued to shed tears and didn't reply to him, Grandpa Dario sighed in defeat and hugged her.
"Piper, my dear granddaughter. I know you are going through a hard time. Your parents are selfish, and your fiancé is a nut… I mean, he is not worthy of you. All this while, you had always put a smile on your face because you didn't want me to worry about you, right? But you didn't have to do that, Piper. You should have expressed your feelings to me sooner. You should have thrown a tantrum and complained to me. Then, no matter what, I will help you and scold those who have dared to hurt you. I am glad that you are finally not pretending that you are alright". Grandpa Dario said to her and patted her back.
'I have no idea what you are talking about. But it feels very nice to have a loving family of my own'. Paola thought to herself as she remained in Grandpa Dario's embrace, even though that was somewhat selfish of her.
But who cares? Who could understand her previous pain and her current joy?
