Iris Harris went quiet for a while, then suddenly said, "Brandan, I miss you."
Her voice was very, very soft. Brandan Hyde had to concentrate for a moment before he understood what she'd just said.
He laughed, delighted, his brows smoothing out, his voice low. "Mm, me too."
All of a sudden, he really wanted to see her.
He wanted to go to her and tell her everything.
But he knew there was no need to say it.
Why make her brood over all this?
They chatted idly for a while longer before Brandan Hyde finally hung up.
That call with Iris was like a shot of adrenaline; even his complexion looked much better.
"Tsk tsk," someone walked in from the hallway, "hurt this bad and you still have the energy to whisper sweet nothings."
Brandan Hyde set down his phone and squinted at the person who came in. "What are you doing here?"
Alex Hawk chuckled. "I was passing through and ran into your people, so I dropped by."
"What a coincidence."
"Yeah, hell of a coincidence." Alex Hawk nodded.
