Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: No Freedom Statue

Lucifer pointed at the rock mountain, Nothing and Volcanic Slime also looked in the direction Lucifer was pointing at. But Nothing's reaction was completely different from what he imagined.

Nothing blinked a few times, he even rubbed his eyes several times while carefully staring at that rock mountain.

Something strange was happening.

Lucifer tilted his head and asked:

"What's wrong, Nothing? Is there something wrong with that rock mountain? Why do you keep looking at it like that?"

"Hey Lucifer, why did you say it was a rock mountain? Are you kidding me? No matter how much trash you are, you shouldn't joke around like that." Nothing replied in a suspicious tone, even Volcanic Slime seemed to agree with what Nothing had said.

At this moment, Lucifer was feeling extremely confused. He didn't understand what was going on, but Nothing's way of speaking made Lucifer a little annoyed.

"What do you mean by that?"

"Isn't the thing you're pointing at a statue? A statue made of stone, not a rock mountain you dumbass."

Now it was Lucifer's turn to feel puzzled and demented. He looked back and forth at the rock mountain, but no matter how he looked at it, it was still a normal rock mountain, not a statue like Nothing had said.

He began to suspect that Nothing and Volcanic Slime were colluding to make him look stupid, but Lucifer didn't care.

Whether it was a statue or a rock mountain, Lucifer would still climb to the top and observe the entire island from above.

After walking for a dozen meters, Lucifer suddenly dazed. His eyes widened in surprise, his mouth opened so wide that a fly flew in and out.

What surprised him was none other than that rock mountain, or rather, a stone statue as big as the rock mountain before that was right in front of his eyes.

'Impossible…it was still a rock mountain before?'

It was a statue of a man kneeling on both legs, he was chained at the neck, both hands and both feet. Therefore, even if the man was a real person, he would not be able to move after being chained like that.

The statue of that man was looking up at the clear, airy blue sky… and filled with freedom, something that the man would never achieve.

Lucifer didn't know why but he could feel sympathy for this man. Was that because they shared the same fate? But the difference between Lucifer and that man was that Lucifer was given the chance to achieve freedom, but that man was not.

Lucifer's mood suddenly dropped a lot.

"What's wrong, Lucifer?" Nothing asked when he saw Lucifer's unusual expression.

Even Volcanic Slime jumped into Lucifer's arms, acting cute and worried to make him feel better. Indeed, Lucifer felt a little better, just a little.

"It's nothing, but why is there a statue there? I thought it was a rock mountain? And how did you know it was a statue in the first place, Nothing?" Lucifer asked.

"I don't know either. I discovered the rock statue from the very beginning when we first set foot on this island, but since you didn't ask, I didn't answer. As for why I saw a rock statue instead of a rock mountain, I don't know either." Nothing answered honestly.

But Nothing's answer still didn't satisfy Lucifer. Furthermore, he still didn't understand why when he looked at it from afar, it was a rock mountain, but when he got closer, it instantly became a stone statue.

'Wait, could it be…' Lucifer's eyes suddenly lighted up, as if he had realized something.

Realizing that he hadn't answered all of Lucifer's questions, Nothing continued:

"As for why when you looked at it from afar, it was a rock mountain, but when you got closer, it was a stone statue. I think that someone has the power to deceive other people's vision and that person has used it on this statue to make it look like a typical rock mountain when looking from afar."

That was what Lucifer was thinking. It had been a long time since Lucifer and Nothing had the same thought. Oh wait, maybe this was the first time.

After walking for another 15 minutes, Lucifer, Nothing, and Volcanic Slime finally arrived at the statue of a man kneeling on both feet made completely out of stone.

What surprised both Lucifer and Nothing was that this statue had no dirt or dust at all, it didn't even have moss or anything growing on it. It felt like this statue was washed frequently.

'Wait, if that's the case, does that mean there's someone else on this island?'

Lucifer couldn't help but shiver in fear at the thought of that possibility. If there really was someone living on this island, there was a high chance that that person would become Lucifer's enemy.

His life was in danger.

Lucifer quickly looked around to make sure that no one was watching him and Nothing. Only after he was sure did he enter the stone statue through what seemed to be an entrance because inside there was a staircase that was also made from stone leading up.

'Looks like I'm on the right track.' Lucifer thought happily.

He wanted to get to the top of the statue and return to his base as soon as possible before the sky got dark. He didn't have much time to waste. For Lucifer, every second was as precious as gold.

As he walked up the stone stairs, Lucifer couldn't help but look down occasionally even though he knew he shouldn't do that and that it was a dumb decision.

And every time he looked down, Lucifer started to feel scared and dizzy. Every time he did that, Nothing and Volcanic Slime would look at him with judging, suspicious eyes.

Luckily, Nothing hadn't cursed him yet.

'But then again, how much longer are these stairs going to last?'

Lucifer looked up to check if he was close to the top, but he couldn't see anything. It would take him a long time to reach the top of this statue.

Lucifer wasn't sure if it was his feeling or not, but the space around him was getting smaller and smaller, and the higher he walked up, the less he could see due to the lack of light.

Right now, he was just walking aimlessly in the darkness, and since he couldn't see the stairs anymore, Lucifer could only carefully check every single step while praying that he wouldn't slip and fall down.

If he did, the next thing that would greet him would be the face of the god of death.

'Ah no, if I can revive myself using Unknown Ring, I'll still be fine, right?'

Putting that aside, Lucifer couldn't take another step forward anymore. In front of him was a wall, or rather a dead end.

Lucifer had spent a lot of time groping in the dark and risking his life only to get nothing in return. What a waste of time.
