In the past, the medication that her mother took was also developed by BioTech.
The past scenes flashed before Sasha's eyes, as if she was once again the helpless girl she once was, staring blankly at her mother lying unconscious on the bed.
And whenever her mother woke up, she would reach for the painkillers on the table to ease her pain.
Until one day, after taking the painkillers developed by BioTech, her mother collapsed to the floor, the bottle of pills falling to the ground, with blue capsules scattered everywhere.
In the past, she had suspected that it was the medication that caused the problem, but since the doctors in the hospital couldn't figure out the cause of her mother's death, her suspicions were ultimately just assumptions.
When professionals couldn't provide an answer, how could she make a flawless judgment?
That day was the last time she cried in her life.
After becoming a hacker, her professional skills allowed her to control her inner emotional fluctuations well. Now, no matter how sad she felt, she couldn't bring herself to cry.
But every time she thought back to those past days, Sasha felt as if she had never changed. She was still the helpless girl from before, watching her mother die in front of her, unable to do anything.
Perhaps, she had never really moved on from that emotional knot. After so many years, the thorn buried deep in her heart had not dissolved or disappeared; instead, it had sunk deeper, waiting for the day it would cause her excruciating pain.
Sasha silently opened the data module. In this visualized network world, the password and permission locks on these modules seemed nonexistent to her.
[Type: Painkiller]
[Unreported side effects: Progressive Neurodegeneration]
[1. The side effects will not be made public]
[2. The product will not be withdrawn from the market]
...
Was this really the truth?
The confusion and misunderstanding of the past finally became clear in this moment, but there was no sense of relief from finding out the truth. The text records before her seemed like shackles that tightly locked her heart, filled with resentment that could never be freed.
Apart from this confidential record, there were many others related to BioTech's dark secrets, locked away like books of sins in a black box, never allowed to see the light of day.
Yet now, a girl from the past had seen all of this. The helplessness seemed to give her the power to unlock the emotional knot. How she chose was entirely up to her.
Perhaps, there was no real choice. When she saw these records, she had already made the decision.
She moved silently, wandering through the network world. Time waited for no one, slipping by second by second.
"Sasha, what are you doing? Answer me!"
"Sasha, what's going on inside? Hurry up and speak! The jammer's duration is limited!"
"Sorry, I'm dealing with something."
The chat boxes from Maine and the young boy kept popping up in front of her, but she ignored them.
She didn't know how much time had passed... Sasha finally pulled out of the network world. The goggles she wore on her eyes dimmed, revealing her cat-like, mesmerizing blue eyes.
Unfortunately, even her beautiful eyes now held the same coldness as cat's eye stones—hard as ice.
What to do next, she had already decided.
—Transmit all these collected secrets to News Station 54 and expose the truth to the world!
"The jammer has failed! We've received the data you sent back. Come back now! Sasha!" Maine's voice roared in the channel.
"Sasha, where are you!?"
Seeing the chat avatar pop up again, Sasha's lips curved into a slight smile, but this smile lasted less than a second.
"I'm sorry," she could only reply.
But the next message that popped up made her pupils contract sharply.
"I will find you and catch you. Absolutely!"
This time, the voice in the channel sounded slightly out of breath, as if the speaker had been running a race, and the caller's avatar was very noticeable.
A sword drawn from its sheath.
[The communication channel has been locked]
The message appeared for only a second before disappearing. With the jammer disabled, everything happening in the building was now known to BioTech's employees, who remotely activated the building's security system and also blocked external communication channels.
Inside the dim office, the orange-yellow eyes gradually turned to a deep blue, bright as candlelight flickering, while outside the window, the rain continued relentlessly.
...
Five minutes ago.
"Damn, damn, damn, damn!"
Maine muttered curses, his expression one of fury and confusion. He looked up at the company building and then at the entrance, his face contorted in frustration.
"What's Sasha doing!? Why isn't she responding? The jammer only has a few minutes left, we've already gathered all the data, why isn't she answering!?"
He growled, his gaze shifting to the silent young man beside him, as if searching for answers to his confusion.
No strange sounds came from the channel, obviously nothing had happened on Sasha's side. She had even left them a message: "Sorry, I'm dealing with something," but after that, no more replies.
If it weren't for the fact that no other living person should be inside the building, Maine would have thought that she was being coerced by an enemy.
The situation was obvious. Everything happening was Sasha's decision. No matter how much Maine questioned her through the channel, this stupid girl refused to reply.
Maine, like a headless fly, wandered around in the pouring rain, several times thinking of rushing into the building, but ultimately stopping himself.
The young man calmly looked up at the top of the building. The BioTech logo advertisement flickered in the rain. He stood in the shadow at the bottom of the stairs, not a drop of rain touching him.
Indeed, an accident had happened, but it was still unclear what the so-called tragedy was.
Was it the stupid girl who wouldn't come down from the roof that caused the tragedy, or was it Maine waiting at the door that led to it?
"Only five minutes left. Let me go up and check," finally, Lin Mo stepped into the rain. The pouring rain immediately soaked him.
"It's too late. You don't have the hacking ability to open BioTech's doors, not even the elevator will work!" Maine's face turned grim. Even he couldn't understand why this was happening.
He and Lin Mo seemed to be leisurely waiting outside, but in reality, they bore unknown risks.
Because no one knew if BioTech would send someone back to inspect the situation.
Once BioTech discovered something wrong, Maine and Lin Mo would have to break through the security forces surrounding the building.
But this all relied on Sasha running down. Maine couldn't understand what could be more important than his life. What was that stupid girl doing in the building? Didn't she know someone was waiting outside anxiously?
Once the jammer's time ran out, the building's security system would activate, and the security robots inside the building would swarm out!
He didn't believe Sasha could handle the entire building's security system!
"I haven't used Stanis in a while."
The young man suddenly replied, his wet black hair clinging to his forehead. His clear black eyes were even clearer than the rainwater.
And, my reaction attribute also meets the requirement. Lin Mo thought.
This would mean that today, the number of times he could use Stanis Type 3... was unlimited!
"So, five minutes should be enough for me to get up there. But I can't handle both things at once. If something happens here, will you be able to hold out until I come down?" He asked.
Maine frowned, feeling like this guy was underestimating him. But there was no time to think about plans anymore. He only thought for a second, then spoke firmly:
"If you can bring Sasha down, don't worry about me. But are you really going to take this risk?"
To be honest, the young man had been with them for less than a month, and even Maine himself wasn't sure if he should go up to save her. So why would the young man recklessly make such a move?
Lin Mo smiled casually, and facing this question, he answered easily:
"In this messed-up world, a lot of things don't have an answer, and there's no need for too many reasons. Just like why Sasha didn't come down, if she's dead, then there's no answer."
"So, after I save her, I'll tell you... my answer."
He didn't say much more, just silently unsheathing his sword in the rainy night.
"Don't die!" Maine's expression was cold.
"You too," the young man gave his final response.
Time seemed to slow down, the falling raindrops appearing as if they were in slow motion. The rain lines, which were hard to catch with the eyes, now became crystal clear.
Lin Mo took a step forward, harnessing the speed of the wind, rushing to the building's entrance, his sword slashing out.
Nothing would escape!
The door was immediately sliced open in several places, and a shadowy figure rushed in.
