~Bella's POV
As we finished our meal, Alex called for the bill. Of course, he didn't even glance at it before handing over his black card to the waiter. I wasn't surprised. A man who could casually talk about taking over companies probably never worried about something as simple as a dinner bill.
We stepped out of the restaurant into the cool night air. The city lights reflected off the sleek black car waiting for us at the curb. Alex gestured for me to get in first, and I did, settling into the soft leather seat. He followed, and soon, the driver pulled away from the restaurant.
The ride back to the brothel was quiet. I could still feel the weight of our conversation lingering in the air between us. Talking about my mother had left a strange ache in my chest, but at the same time, it felt… lighter. Like for the first time in a long while, someone had listened.
When the car finally pulled up in front of the brothel, I turned to Alex. "Thank you," I said, meaning it.
