Tanjiro's changed mindset made him hesitant to look Kanao in the eyes. Whenever he mustered the courage, his gaze would invariably drift away within a second.
Kanao showed no shyness. As someone with emotional deficits, she experienced little emotion and was rarely affected by them. The smile she often wore was an imitation of Shinobu's sister's expression, not a genuine reflection of her inner feelings.
Shinobu's sister always wore a smile, which explained why Shinobu saw a resemblance to her sister in Ryuji—he, too, often wore a smile.
"Tanjiro, have you reached a decision?" Kanao asked, noticing his silence.
Tanjiro remained silent for a moment. Ryuji's words had made him realize Kanao needed protection and was seeking support, and that support was him.
Tanjiro struggled to find the right words. Ryuji, watching from the doorway, grew increasingly anxious, fearing Tanjiro would falter at the crucial moment.
Finally, unable to find the words, Tanjiro simply enveloped Kanao in a hug.
Perhaps, when words failed, actions served as the most eloquent response.
Witnessing this, Ryuji's anxiety vanished, replaced by a relieved smile.
Afterward, Tanjiro and Kanao's relationship officially began. They weren't overtly affectionate, but Kanao became more clingy towards Tanjiro, and he, in turn, showed her more care.
However, Tanjiro still felt shy whenever their relationship was discussed.
Zenitsu, upon learning the news, was devastated, almost questioning his life choices.
He couldn't accept that Tanjiro, a seemingly emotionless person, had won Kanao's affection.
It took Zenitsu several days to recover from this blow.
As one rejoiced, another sorrowed. Aoi Kanzaki, who held a slight affection for Tanjiro, felt a pang of inexplicable sadness upon learning about Tanjiro and Kanao.
Unknown to others, the outwardly cheerful Aoi harbored a fragile heart. Her timidity had led her to avoid further conflict with demons after surviving the selection process.
Aoi sometimes consoled herself that Tanjiro and Kanao were a better match, as Kanao could face dangers alongside Tanjiro, sharing his burdens. She, on the other hand, was only needed when Tanjiro was injured.
Lost in thought, Aoi collided with someone's chest.
The person she bumped into was Zenitsu, who was seeking out Kiyo and the others for medicinal treatment.
Their injuries were minor scrapes sustained during a mission, but Zenitsu, enjoying the attention from the girls, frequently visited the Butterfly Mansion for this purpose.
