"Ho ho, how I know isn't important. But I'm very interested in your Lightning Seal. Could you give it to me?" Kai said with a warm smile. "If you do, I can pretend I didn't see anything you've done."
This seemingly tempting offer brought a glint of amusement to Mokkaku's eyes. His weathered face twitched slightly. "Boy, experience truly is the best teacher."
"If you weren't interested in my Lightning Seal, I'd be worried about silently eliminating you. But your interest proves you haven't mastered Black Lightning, and aren't a threat."
"Let me give you one last lesson. Don't let greed expose your weaknesses."
A hint of glee colored his long, drawn-out words.
Kuro's expression turned ferocious. "Elder Mokkaku, stop wasting time! Immediately set up a barrier to conceal our actions, then we'll kill him together. Since he hasn't mastered Black Lightning, making us fear for nothing, he must pay with his life!"
"Right!" The seven clan members behind Kuro echoed his sentiment.
Their words, combined, created a palpable sense of oppression.
However, the next moment, something made their hearts skip a beat.
He laughed!
The man they considered a fish on a chopping block, bathed in black lightning, was laughing. His pearly white teeth were stark against the flickering black lightning.
What unnerved them most was why he was laughing in this seemingly inescapable situation.
"It seems kindness can be misunderstood," Kai said, shaking his head with a smile. "I didn't want trouble; I intended to act secretly. But I seem to have a knack for attracting trouble wherever I go."
"Since you won't hand it over, I'll take it myself."
His words, strangely calm amidst the thunder, were jarring.
As Kai suddenly looked up, crimson bloodshot eyes spread across his pupils like a tide.
Nine tomoe spun, shaking their very souls.
"It's… it's the Nine Tomoe Mangekyō Sharingan!" Mokkaku cried out in disbelief.
As the clan's strategist, he possessed a vast network of information across the shinobi world. While not as extensive as the Five Great Nations, he knew everything about the infamous, recently risen, Konoha renegade, the Blood-Colored Asura, Uchiha Kai.
"El-Elder, that's the legendary Nine Tomoe Mangekyō Sharingan! How did a Konoha renegade infiltrate Kumogakure?!" Kuro's expression changed drastically. Facing this rumored monster, he didn't hesitate to roar, "Run!"
A wave of panic washed over them, their eyes fixated on the slender figure bathed in black lightning.
But as Kuro took a step, crackling, violent black lightning appeared before him.
A ghostly flicker of Lightning Release Body Flicker, making their pupils constrict.
A black lightning-wreathed spear formed from Kai's right hand enlarged rapidly before his eyes.
Too fast!
Terror flashed through his mind.
Kuro didn't even have a chance to block.
His massive head, encased in the tailed beast coat, was sent flying, spraying hot blood.
This instantly shattered the remaining seven's composure. Their eyes widened in terror as they scattered.
Kuro was dead, but there were still eight of them, including Mokkaku. If each chose a different direction, even with the opponent's speed, at least one might escape—an eight percent chance of survival.
However, as this thought formed, Kai spread his hands slightly. The Black Lightning he'd absorbed exploded outwards.
Black Bird Flow: Lightning Pool Hell!
BOOM!
Violent black lightning descended from the heavens, engulfing a space of dozens of meters. The eight, attempting to flee, cried out in agony.
Even with the enhanced speed of the tailed beast coat, they were instantly paralyzed.
Before they could react, Kai, using Lightning Release Chakra Mode with the Black Lightning, moved like a wolf among sheep.
Psh!
Blood spurted as eight heads flew into the air simultaneously.
A slight popping sound as the heads hit the ground made Kai raise an eyebrow.
Mokkaku, seemingly killed instantly, vanished in a puff of smoke, leaving behind only an arm covered in intricate seals, blood still flowing from the severed end. An old scroll lay beside it.
"This old man… he survived the rebellion.
A masterful escape, even leaving behind a scroll.
That must be a substitution jutsu," Kai said, looking at the rapidly fleeing figure hundreds of meters away.
Just as he was about to pursue, a ferocious roar echoed from the north.
ROAR!
A powerful gust of wind accompanied the roar, even from a distance, conveying a brutal, savage aura.
Anyone with sense would know: a tailed beast was rampaging.
"Forget it. Let's get Darui to master Black Lightning first, before anyone calls me a fraud," Kai said, picking up the old scroll.
The scroll depicted a black lightning kanji at the center of its intricate seals.
At the same time, a familiar ethereal voice echoed in Kai's mind.
"Ding! Detected host learning Lightning Seal. Instant max level upgrade?"
A playful smile touched Kai's lips. If Mokkaku knew that the Lightning Seal he'd spent a lifetime perfecting had been so easily obtained by Kai, he would regret leaving the scroll behind to distract Kai and abandon the pursuit. Mokkaku had assumed that even with Kai's immense power, mastering the Lightning Seal in such a short time would be impossible.
"Instant max level upgrade!" Kai didn't hesitate. His ability to bathe in the Lightning Pool was due to the system instantly maxing out his Lightning Release Chakra Mode, granting him a deeper understanding than any previous Raikage.
As for Darui, if not for his resilience and inherent affinity for Black Lightning (as depicted in the original story), he wouldn't have simply fainted and been revived repeatedly by Kai at the edge of the pool.
