Chapter 112 - Chapter 112: The Rumble in Naruhata

[Time: 09:25 PM][Location: Naruhata District – Warehouse Interior]

"Badder Cop, huh?" Reiji smirked, watching Mirko tower over the trembling Yakuza lieutenant. "I think you're just 'Brutal Cop'."

"Details," Mirko waved a hand dismissively. She grabbed the thug by his lapels. "Now, spill it! Who's cooking this fake Trigger? Is it the Eight Precepts? Is it—"

BOOM.

The question died in her throat.

The entire warehouse shook. Dust rained down from the rafters.

Reiji's head snapped toward the north wall—a solid barrier of reinforced concrete and stacked shipping containers.

BOOM.

Something was hitting the wall from the outside. Something massive.

BOOM!

"What the..." Reiji activated his thermal vision.

He saw a massive heat signature on the other side. One person.

"Incoming!" Reiji shouted.

CRASH!

The steel shipping container—weighing tons—didn't just fall over. It was punched through.

A fist the size of a cinder block obliterated the metal, sending shrapnel flying like shotgun pellets. The container crumpled like a soda can, flying across the room and smashing into the opposite wall.

Stepping through the twisted wreckage was a mountain of a man.

He wore a plague mask, but unlike the others, his was yellow. He wore a padded fighting gi, and his knuckles were taped.

He rolled his shoulders, cracking his neck with a sound like a pistol shot.

[Threat Detected: HIGH.][Name: Kendo Rappa.][Affiliation: Shie Hassaikai – Eight Bullets.]

"Ah," the giant rumbled, his voice deep and eager. "I was told to clean up the trash. But this..."

Rappa pointed a massive finger at Mirko.

"...this looks like a main course."

The trembling lieutenant on the floor scrambled backward. "R-Rappa-san! They took out the whole squad! We need to retreat!"

"Retreat?" Rappa laughed. It was a terrifying, joyous sound. "Why would I retreat when the Number Five Hero is standing right there?"

Mirko dropped the lieutenant.

She wasn't scared. She wasn't cautious.

She was grinning. A wide, feral grin that matched Rappa's intensity perfectly.

"Finally," Mirko hopped in place, the concrete cracking under her boots. "Someone who didn't bring a gun to a fistfight."

"Reiji!" Mirko barked without looking back. "Secure the evidence! Don't let the small fry destroy those vials!"

"What about him?" Reiji asked, summoning his ice sword.

"He's mine!"

WHOOSH.

Mirko vanished.

She launched herself like a cannonball, aiming a drop kick straight for Rappa's head.

"YES!" Rappa roared.

He didn't dodge. He threw a punch to meet her kick.

BANG!

Fist met foot.

The shockwave was instantaneous. It blew the windows out of the warehouse frames. Reiji had to shield his eyes as the air pressure knocked him back a step.

Mirko backflipped off Rappa's fist, landing on a support beam. Rappa slid back two inches, smoke rising from his knuckles.

"Good power!" Rappa yelled. "Again!"

He unleashed a flurry of punches.

[Strongarm Quirk: Active.]

His fists moved so fast they became invisible. The air compression bullets—wind blasts created by sheer force—tore through the warehouse.

Mirko bounced around the room, dodging the air bullets.

Zip. Zip. Zip.

"Too slow, big guy!"

She pushed off the wall. "Luna Fall!"

She crashed down on Rappa's shoulder. Rappa grunted, his knees buckling, but he grabbed her ankle.

"Gotcha!"

He wound up a punch that would have taken her head off.

CHK-CHK.

A spear of ice slammed into Rappa's wrist, freezing it to his chest for a split second.

Reiji stood on a crate nearby, his hand extended. "Don't forget the intern."

The split second was enough. Mirko twisted her body and kicked Rappa in the face with her free leg, freeing herself from his grip.

She landed next to Reiji.

"I told you he was mine!" she scolded, but she was still smiling.

"He was about to turn you into rabbit stew," Reiji deadpanned. "I'm just tenderizing him."

Rappa wiped a trickle of blood from his mask. He shattered the ice on his wrist by flexing his muscle.

"Two on one?" Rappa cracked his knuckles again. "Even better! Come at me! Both of you! Let's fight until our hearts stop!"

Reiji analyzed the situation.

The grunt lieutenant was sneaking toward a detonator on the wall. He was trying to blow the evidence.

"Mirko, keep the big guy busy," Reiji commanded. "I have to stop the cleanup."

"Don't order me around, rookie!" Mirko laughed, launching herself back at Rappa. "Just don't die!"

Reiji turned away from the titan battle. He locked eyes with the lieutenant.

"You," Reiji growled, his voice dropping to a demonic register.

[Skill: Teleport.]

He vanished in flame.

He reappeared directly in front of the lieutenant, grabbing his wrist just as he reached for the detonator.

"N-No! Wait!" the Yakuza screamed.

"Get over here," Reiji whispered.

He headbutted the man, knocking him unconscious instantly.

Behind him, the battle between Mirko and Rappa was escalating. The warehouse was being dismantled piece by piece.

CRASH!

Rappa punched Mirko through a stack of crates. Mirko rebounded, using the momentum to deliver a spinning heel kick that cracked Rappa's mask.

"HAHAHA! MORE!" Rappa screamed.

Suddenly, a high-pitched sound pierced the air.

Beep-beep-beep.

Rappa froze. He reached into his belt and pulled out a small communicator.

"What?!" Rappa yelled into it. "I'm busy! ... Tch. Fine."

He looked at Mirko, disappointment radiating off him.

"Overhaul is calling. Says we're making too much noise. The police are swarming the block."

Rappa lowered his fists.

"You're lucky, Rabbit. And you, Ninja boy."

He walked backward toward the hole in the wall he had created.

"Next time... we finish this. To the death."

"Running away?!" Mirko shouted, preparing to chase.

"Mirko, stop!" Reiji yelled, holding up the crate of vials. "We have the Trigger! If we chase him, his backup might destroy this! The mission comes first!"

Mirko skidded to a halt. She looked at Rappa disappearing into the rain, then at the box of drugs.

She clicked her tongue aggressively. "Tch. Fine."

She walked over to Reiji, her costume torn in a few places, bruised but energized.

"You made the right call," she admitted, though she looked annoyed. "But damn... that guy was fun."

Reiji looked at the destruction around them. The warehouse looked like a bomb had gone off.

"If that's your definition of fun," Reiji sighed, holstering his kunai, "I'm going to need a raise."

Mirko slapped his back, hard.

"Welcome to the big leagues, kid."

End of Chapter 112.
