Slow, and cautious, I inched across the toothpick of what seemed to be a ceiling beam in a warehouse. Below me, a door opened -CREEK- a figure strolled in, dragging what looked to be a body behind him.
"I've captured the target, but God he feels heavy" it said while dragging a body like a rag-doll behind him. That rag-doll was the reason why I was currently imitating Batman, hiding in the shadows.
"Were you followed?" a figure I couldn't quite see in the moonlit warehouse asked.
"If anyone was dumb enough to follow me after I devoured all those mortals at the school I also took a stroll through the sewers" the Killer Crock copy cockily replied.
"The Jobs done. Now give me my payment as we agreed upon."
"Fair is fair" the cloaked figure, tall and monstrously muscular, ripped a cloth off of what I thought was just another box, revealing a cage with two young teens inside. "Just as you asked for two young demigods, one boy and one girl."
"Gaia knows why you want this pitiful mortal" the copy of a man from a comic scoffed throwing the bruised blueberry of a boy to the ground, his fall cushioned by his bag on his back, then the figure strolled in front of the other teens. Now in the moonlight, I see he only has one eye, a face full of scars, and is big as a giant. I Recognize him, Makis Delerious the half Cyclops half human hitman, he became famous in the 1300s when he was hired to steal the black death from Hades. As history can attest he was successful.
"Ah ah ah, he's no regular mortal, he is descended from one of Posiden's kids" The other man still in the dark retorted while reaching down to grab my charge.
"Why is the smell on him so weak then?" the hitman pondered out loud ruffling his non-existent beard.
"Because of this" the mysterious man pulled out what looked like a deodorant spray can from the boy's bag. He brought it up to where his face must have been and read aloud. "Mortal spray v2.4, keeps all monsters from smelling you for 10 hours per spray" both monsters looked startled.
"They can now hide themselves? Who made this?" the Hitman screeched, his one eye seemed to bulge and he started shaking.
"Calm down Makis" the other man scolded, examining the can with trained precision. "I have people everywhere and this is the first time I've seen anything like this. The mortals make attempts to hide, living with people who smell worse than we do. This boy couldn't have made this spay. Here look at how the bottle has no flaws whatsoever, it's got to be Hefestus or one of the other gods" he reasoned pulling the bottle somewhere in his cloak.A -CRASH- was heard from outside drawing the attention of both creatures. The cyclops closed his eyes, searching for intruders by scent.
Did Chiron and his half blood team finally come? Opening his eyes the Cyclops said,
"There's 3 half bloods outside along with a stronger presence," turning to the cloaked figure. "What do you want to do? Protect your identity from leaking or keeping the boy?" The man seemed to have scoffed, turning his back on Makis. He walked over to the boy on the ground asking.
"Did you really have to bruise him this much?" the air seemingly turned icy as the words lingered. Makis seemed to have been caught off guard as he finally turned away from the door, looking at the cloaked darkness. He replied with a bite in his tone.
"Does that really matter right now? The Demigods aren't the issue, it's the other presence, It's protected by fate. We can't kill it, its purpose isn't complete." The cloaked figure seemed to not have heard Makis as he gently picked up the boy with his Giant arms. The cloaked figure started walking deeper in the warehouse, forcing panic to show from his singular eye. "Polybotes wait." A Giant? Sharply Polybotes stopped, his words cutting right through the soul of everyone who heard them,
"I have no time for you. I paid you and now this transaction is done." Ignoring Makis he vanished, possibly heading to a hidden escape route.
I have to stop Polybotes from taking him. He is only controlling a vessel so his power is weak. My employer won't be happy if he gets away.
Dropping down from where I was, I sprinted after him hearing Makis's outrage behind. I used one of my bloodline gifts to track him, weaving in and out of crates, finally making it to what looked like a normal crate.
Bingo
It was a secret trapdoor, and someone had used it recently. Ignoring all subtlety I punched through the wooden top pulling off the cover, revealing a tunnel. Unworried I hopped down following the dirt walls in darkness, for what felt like forever but was actually only a minute. Greeted by the moonlight I exited the tunnel into a luscious park where I found Polybotes sitting by himself. Without turning towards me he spoke gently.
"Tobias Water your reputation precedes you,"
Does he care for the boy?
"What do you have in store for the boy?'' I asked, cautious.
"The boy is my grandson, son of the only daughter I have ever had. At first I was angry with his father, being the son of Poseidon, but his bloodline was dormant, probably his fathers doing after that pact that was made. I even thought he was mortal the first time we met. His personality was so infectious that he managed to get my blessing to marry my dear Loukia. Alas all good things must come to an end, when Poseidon heard of their marriage he sent sea monsters after them eventually killing them. His own son. I could never do that. Fortunately they brought my dear Damian into the world as their legacy. He is all I have now. The Gods killed all of my other children and descendants all because of some "proficy" that we were going to replace them with." His words left a strange heartfelt mood in the air, seemingly out of place.
"Were you the one who employed me to take him to camp half blood?" I asked, walking closer to the calm giant.
"Ah that, yes. You see he is more God then mortal for his grandmother was a demigod from Hetecate. So his scent is stronger than even Zues's kids. I pulled a favor and got that spray made for him, but it's running out. I've struck a deal with Hetecate to Claim him when he reaches camp. I just needed someone trustworthy to bring him." Sitting down on the bench next to him I asked "Why is he so bruised?" A sigh escaped his lips as he responded.
"Makis wasn't supposed to hurt him this much, just bang him up enough to avoid suspicion from the Gods. Hopefully those Demigods will end him." Anger flared on his face hidden by years of experience. "Chiron can't bring him in otherwise he'll spew God's propaganda. Take him, and when he wakes up tell him the truth. I want him to know what really happened." The mood became somber. "Quick, Chiron is coming, take Damian and leave."
