Chapter 69: Primeape
Hearing these words, Brock fell to the ground, then thought, Uncle! I didn't want to be your disciple, so now you want me to be your son-in-law?! What are your true intentions?! Besides... I might want to... but Sabrina has psychic powers! I definitely dare not provoke her! I really don't want to find a woman I can't defeat; otherwise, I'll be the one suffering!
After thinking this, Brock shook his head, got up from the ground, then took out the Poké Ball Sabrina's father had just given him and released the Pokémon inside. Just like that, a cute Ralts appeared before Brock.
Seeing it was Ralts, Brock thought, Ralts are very rare Pokémon in the Kanto region! Why would Uncle give this Pokémon to me?!... Sigh! Can't figure it out! Thinking about things is the worst; it's too tiring for the brain. Forget it! Who cares why?! He gave this Ralts to me, so now it's mine!
Having finished his thoughts, Brock went to meet up with Ash and the others. Shortly after, Brock reached their side. Seeing Brock had returned, Ash said, "Everyone's here! Let's set off for Celadon City!"
After unanimous agreement, Brock's group started walking together towards Celadon City. And so, this scene appeared: two young men, three young women, and one woman (Sabrina), plus three Pokémon (Pikachu, Meowth, and Haunter implied?), standing together, heading towards Celadon City.
Brock's group walked for an unknown amount of time until they reached a small path in a desolate mountainous area. Just then, Brock suggested, "Ash! Misty! Daisy! Melanie! And Sabrina! It's lunchtime. Let's eat here!"
Just as Brock finished speaking, voices from Ash and the others came in reply:
"Okay!" "Alright!" "No problem!" "Mm."
Hearing these responses, Brock felt something wasn't quite right. It seemed one person hadn't answered him. So, Brock looked towards Ash and the others and noticed Sabrina off to the side, playing with Ash's Haunter, completely ignoring Brock.
Seeing this, Brock knew who hadn't answered him. Subsequently, he took out the prepared dry rations and distributed them to Ash and the others. Brock took one portion of dry rations, walked over to Sabrina, held the food out in front of her, and said, "Sabrina, it's time to eat."
Hearing someone call her, Sabrina turned her head, saw Brock holding out the dry rations and speaking to her. After observing this, Sabrina accepted the food, immediately turned her head back, and continued playing with Haunter while eating the rations.
Seeing this, Brock thought, When I have time, I absolutely must talk to Sabrina! This behavior of hers won't do! If she doesn't talk to people, she'll eventually revert to the old Sabrina, and that would be even more terrifying! Also, if Uncle (her father) finds out, he definitely won't let me off easily, especially since I accepted his gift.
Having finished this thought, Brock found a clean spot and sat down. Just as he was preparing to eat his dry rations, he saw a Mankey walking towards him. It then said something in front of him.
Seeing this, Brock called out to Meowth, who was currently eating his own rations, "Meowth! What did this Mankey say?"
Hearing Brock, Meowth translated from the side, "Brock! Mankey asks if you can give it something to eat."
Hearing Meowth's translation, Brock handed the dry rations in his hand to the Mankey. Mankey accepted the food, sniffed it, then looked back at Brock, as if asking, "Is this stuff edible?"
Meowth, nearby, saw this and demonstrated. He took a bite of his own rations and said, "Don't worry! This stuff is edible, and it's quite tasty too!"
Seeing this demonstration, Mankey started eating the dry rations boldly and without worry. Watching this, Brock hesitated, wondering whether to catch the Mankey. Just then, Mankey finished eating the rations, then looked over towards Ash, saw Ash still had unfinished rations, and quickly ran over. It snatched Ash's rations with its hand and ran off, eating Ash's food nearby.
Seeing his rations snatched by a Pokémon, Ash couldn't stand it and declared, "You dare snatch my food?! I'm definitely going to capture you, then teach you a good lesson!"
As soon as Ash finished speaking, he commanded Pikachu beside him, "Pikachu! Use Thunderbolt! Teach that Mankey a good lesson!"
Hearing Ash, Pikachu unleashed a bolt of lightning from its body, striking towards the Mankey. Because Mankey was still eating the rations and not paying attention, the lightning bolt subsequently struck Mankey directly.
After being struck by the lightning, Mankey's fur turned much darker. Mankey looked down at the rations in its hand, which had been turned to ash by the Thunderbolt. Subsequently, Mankey angrily turned its head around, glaring at Ash and Pikachu. Then, a white light emanated from Mankey's body!
Seeing this scene, Brock knew Mankey was about to evolve into Primeape! Thinking this, he decided not to enter the system to check Mankey's Potential. Because Mankey evolved before its full strength was awakened, even if raised and trained, it would be very difficult for it to achieve great accomplishments. Having finished this thought, Brock turned his attention to the impending battle between Ash and the now-Primeape.
Seeing Mankey evolve into Primeape, Ash's desire to capture it became even stronger. He subsequently took an empty Poké Ball from his person, gripped it tightly, then commanded Pikachu, "Pikachu! Use Thunderbolt again! Attack Primeape!"
Hearing Ash, Pikachu once again unleashed a bolt of lightning from its body towards Primeape. Seeing the lightning coming at it, Primeape jumped up, dodging Pikachu's Thunderbolt. It then quickly ran over beside Pikachu and used Fury Swipes on Pikachu.
Seeing this, Ash told Pikachu, "Pikachu! Quick, use Quick Attack to dodge Primeape's attack!"
Hearing Ash, Pikachu used Quick Attack, dodging Primeape's attack with wind-like speed. It then started running circles around Primeape with that same incredible speed.
Meanwhile, Primeape saw Pikachu circling around in front of it and started getting a bit dizzy. Ash noticed this and commanded Pikachu, "Pikachu! First, attack Primeape with Thunderbolt! Then follow up with Iron Tail!"
Pikachu, running around Primeape, heard Ash's command, stopped, subsequently unleashed a Thunderbolt from its body towards Primeape, and then jumped up again, its tail emitting a white light as it struck downwards at Primeape!
Because Primeape had been watching Pikachu circle around it, it had gotten dizzy. By the time Primeape reacted, Pikachu's Thunderbolt was already right in front of it. Just like that, the Thunderbolt struck Primeape! The Thunderbolt paralyzed Primeape, and subsequently, Pikachu's Iron Tail also struck Primeape! And so, Primeape was knocked to the ground by Pikachu's combination attack.
Seeing both Thunderbolt and Iron Tail hit Primeape, Ash quickly threw the Poké Ball he held in his hand. The Poké Ball struck Primeape, sucked it inside, then fell to the ground. The red light on the Poké Ball on the ground flashed incessantly.
Watching this scene, Ash thought, I hope I can capture Primeape! Just then, the Poké Ball on the ground was about to open, but suddenly a force took control of the Poké Ball! After a minute, the Poké Ball went 'ding!', and just like that, Primeape was captured by Ash!
After watching this scene, Brock knew that just now, when Primeape was about to break free, Sabrina's psychic power had forced it back. Thinking this, Brock looked towards Sabrina's direction and noticed she wasn't currently playing with Haunter but was watching the Poké Ball off to the side. Seeing this, Brock was certain his guess was correct.
Seeing he had captured Primeape, Ash ran over, picked up the Poké Ball, then struck his corny pose again, declaring, "I caught Primeape!" Because Ash didn't swap Primeape into his party, Primeape was thus transferred to Professor Oak's lab.
Seeing Ash capture Primeape, Brock suggested setting off for Celadon City. After unanimous agreement, Brock's group once again began traveling towards Celadon City.
