-----------------------------
Jonathan parachuted down into a small city and immediately began picking up equipment, following the novice instructions that appeared in his mind. He found an M4 and, after a few practice shots, was fascinated by the weapon.
"If our regular soldiers were equipped with something like this, they'd have a much better chance against ordinary pirates," he thought.
Jonathan was specifically thinking about ordinary pirates. In the world of pirates, it wasn't that the Marines lacked the technology to produce more advanced firearms for their soldiers. The truth was, such weapons just weren't very useful in the grand scheme of things.
On the high seas, it's a world ruled by the strong. The World Government would rather pour its resources into a few top-tier Marines who have the potential to become powerhouses than equip 10,000 ordinary soldiers.
The outcome of a battle is rarely decided by the number of troops on the ground, but by the clash of its strongest fighters.
If someone like Whitebeard were to face 100,000 ordinary soldiers, he could defeat them with just a few punches.
After all, his attacks are accompanied by earthquakes and tsunamis, leaving regular soldiers with no chance of survival.
Even with better equipment, they'd be powerless against such a force. That's why cheap, reliable flintlock guns are still the standard for most Marines.
Does that mean ordinary Marine soldiers are just cannon fodder? While it's a harsh way to put it, it's true. Both ordinary Marines and ordinary pirates are often just thatâcannon fodder.
Jonathan, however, was a pure soldier, a strategic general who excelled at using formations and tactics to corner elite pirates.
Still, he knew his methods were useless against truly powerful individuals. That's why the G-8 base, which he commanded, had access to much better equipment than other Marine branches.
He wanted to document the gear in this game to see if the Marine military factory could produce it. If they could, G-8's fighting strength would increase significantly.
As Jonathan was looking for more equipment, he suddenly heard the sound of gunshots nearby. He immediately crouched down and began searching for the source.
He soon spotted a Marine soldier pinned down and firing at an enemy. Jonathan raised his M4, took aim, and with a single shot, took out the enemy with a headshot.
The rescued Marine, hearing the shot, followed the sound and found Jonathan with his weapon still raised. Recognizing Lieutenant General Jonathan, the soldier immediately snapped to attention and saluted.
"Alright, let's see if there's anyone else in this town," Jonathan said, walking toward the soldier. "We need to regroup the team."
Meanwhile, the Straw Hats were still fighting on their own. Zoro was running across the map, while Sanji quietly followed Robin, acting as her protector.
Luffy had a pistol in one hand and a pan in the other, mimicking Captain America's fighting style. Ikki, on the other hand, was just trying to survive.
"I'm gonna get the chicken dinner this time!" he declared.
The game soon reached the semifinals, with fewer than forty players remaining out of the original one hundred.
What confused Ikki was the kill feed in the upper left corner of his screen, which kept showing the Straw Hat crew being eliminated one by one.
"Is the AI really that good now?" he wondered.
Just as he was pondering this, a sneaky figure appeared less than a hundred meters away. At this distance, Ikki could have easily gotten a headshot, but he didn't fire right away.
He scanned his surroundings first, making sure no one else was nearby. Only then did he take aim and land a perfect headshot.
Three hundred meters away, Jonathan was lying in the grass on a slope, watching everything through his eight-power scope.
"This hunting game is interesting, as I expected," he said to himself.
Jonathan began organizing his troops to prepare to encircle Ikki. He currently had fifteen Marines under his command, meaning almost half the remaining players in the game were on his team.
With Jonathan's formation in place, Ikki's escape routes were cut off. By the time Ikki realized what was happening, several dark muzzles were already pointed at him.
"You⊠you AIs are ganging up on me! This is so unfair!" Ikki exclaimed, staring incredulously at the group of Marines in their different outfits.
Just then, Jonathan walked out from the crowd. "Hello there, Rear Admiral Ikki."
Ikki froze. When he heard his name, he immediately knew these weren't AIs at allâthey were real people.
"Damn it! How did you guys get into the game?" Ikki demanded.
Jonathan chuckled. "Your ship fell from the sky and landed at our G-8 base. Naturally, I had to get on board to check it out, and that's how I ended up here!"
"You're Jonathan from G-8?" Ikki said, a flash of recognition in his eyes.
He remembered this man from the original story; Jonathan had a brief encounter with the Straw Hats. Ikki didn't remember him for his strength, but because his wife, Jessica, was incredibly beautiful.
"Your wife isâŠ" Ikki stopped himself, shaking his head. He smiled and extended a hand. "Hello, Lieutenant General Jonathan."
Jonathan stepped forward and shook his hand. But when he tried to pull away, he couldn't.
"It's our first time meeting, so I'm giving you a big gift!" Ikki said, taking out a ticking C4 with his other hand.
"Shoot him now!" Jonathan yelled to his men.
The Marines immediately opened fire on Ikki, eliminating him. But the C4 went off, taking Jonathan and five of his men with it.
After Ikki and Jonathan were both eliminated, cheers erupted in the viewing hall. The Straw Hat crewâLuffy, Usopp, Sanji, and Namiâcheered, having been eliminated by Jonathan's team earlier. However, the sailors who had been eliminated early spoke up in support of their commander.
"Hmph! It was Lieutenant General Jonathan's first time playing this game," one said. "If he plays a second round, he'll definitely lead us to victory!"
"That's right! Lieutenant General Jonathan is the strongest!" another added.
"Jonathan! Jonathan! Jonathan!"
Soon, the voices of the Marines drowned out the Straw Hats' cheers. Just then, Ikki and Jonathan appeared in the viewing hall, having been respawned. Ikki was speechless, listening to the sailors chant.
"Hey, do you guys even know the rules of the game?" Ikki asked. "You were maliciously teaming up, which affects the fairness of the game!"
