Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 : A Pact in Shadows

I would like to just clarify this now to avoid confusion, as you all know the mc's time point is a bit far from the starting point of the originals so to fix that, most of the chapters until the storyline of the Originals begins will be fast paced and will only either revolve around the mc's, the Originals themselves or as a build up for what i will continue to write and carry over into the originals storyline.

New Orleans, Present Day — Hours before meeting Marcel Gerard

Over the past few decades, I have been involved in many things and have gone by many names but the best of them all will have to be the title given to me by the gemini coven,

The name is Gai, which they say means ' The Child Born of Nature'.

Now that's not to say that I have done nothing but playing around, I have also made sure to pay attention to the affairs of the Mikaelson's after all their life is like an unending drama.

I mean Michael my old chap just recently burned down New Orleans to the ground dumb yes but exciting nevertheless and Elijah is still frolicking around like an headless chicken!

But no matter, my plans have been moving perfectly, all so that I can interfere and benefit easily from the chaos of the tvd story.

"Either way the scenery of New Orleans looks very nice, won't you agree Oliver?", I marvel at the scenery while looking towards the beautiful red ring on my finger.

*Oliver:* "Yeah, this place is beautiful boss but why we are here and please tell me, it isn't to meet with that Marcel guy cause Slater can handle that alone right?"

Well he's not wrong after all but how many people can get the opportunity to meet someone they admired in a show?

Not much I'll tell you that but after today I will be one of those few people, thinking of what he said I am now reminded of how I first met Slater and got him to my side.

The witch stood atop a wrought-iron balcony in the French Quarter, eyes fixed on the heartbeat of the beautiful scenery below. Jazz played faintly in the background, masking the murmurs of restless spirits and the thin veil between worlds.

A sound echoed in his mind — a memory long buried, now stirred by the pull of thoughts.

He closed his eyes... and the past unraveled.

Flashback...

Portland, Oregon – Nightfall 5 Years backk

The rain tapped softly against the windowpane of Slater's cluttered apartment, a warm glow from his monitor casting eerie shadows across walls lined with grimoires and vampire lore.

Slater adjusted his glasses and scrolled through ancient vampire forums, chuckling. "Idiots think vervain stops everything. Amateurs the lot of them."

A sudden knock echoed through the apartment.

He tensed. No one knew he lived here—no one human, anyway.

He opened the door to find a vampire following closely behind a man in a charcoal robe, aura pulsing with restrained power. His irises shimmered faintly violet—a witch, no not just any witch cause i can feel the power.

*Witch:* "Slater. Scholar, technophile, and blood-sucker. Am i correct, well i know i am, so here's the jig! I have a proposition."

Slater raised an eyebrow. "You tracked me here for a business pitch?"

*Witch:* "indeed and I bring an offer... in exchange for loyalty."

> "But shouldn't you introduce us in? After all, it's chilling out here right Oliver?"

*Oliver:* "Indeed boss, he should show some respect to us by atleast inviting us in. After all, we don't bite! Do we now?"

They discuss just before Slater allows them to come inside and take a sit in his home.

The apartment smelled of iron, burning coffee, and old parchment. He could still remember it clearly: the rain, the flickering neon lights, and well Slater, hunched over in his chair.

*Witch (in a younger, more fast paced voice):* "Slater, you're a Vampire with a mind sharper than most humans. I require your talents for some endeavour."

Slater's head snapped up, defensive. "Most people knock with hands, not aura."

*Witch:* "oh sorry about that, I just felt it looked more dramatic."

He remembered how Slater's eyes popped with disbelief — not for once believing something so stupid, but for what could he say.

Slater narrowed his eyes while looking at the witch who has comfortably sat down on his sofa while the vamp stands on guard. "Hope you like the place but let's get to business, shall we? So what's this talk of getting my loyalty exactly?"

*Witch:* " why It's simple really. You will be my eyes in the supernatural world. Inform me of Originals, Petrova movements, doppelgängers, the Salvatore brothers. In return, I enhance your survival—and give you this."

> "Now it will be for the best of us both if you don't try anything stupid cause I am sure you already felt my energy back at the door right?"

He mused to Slater to hear while conjuring a small wooden box from nothing, watching as Slater's skepticism shifted into awe as he opened it. Inside it lay, a sleek silver ring inlaid with a deep sapphire — humming with enchantment.

The enchantment was warm, forged in the Palace — not bound to nature, but to him.

*Witch:*" I am sure you understand what a daylight ring is right?"

Slater's breath hitched. "You're offering me sunlight… without the pain?"

*Witch:* "No. I'm offering you relevance, crafted with bindings not of this world. Not even the sunstone rings that your kind wear can compare. You'll walk in daylight. No more shadows."

*Slater:* "What's the catch?"

"Loyalty for protection. Information for backing. Eyes and ears for the right to walk beneath the sun". The man on the chair

> " Remember I'll call on you when I need you. No betrayal. If you run — well let's just say i will need a new worker, hehe."

Slater paused, then smirked. "You had me at 'sunlight'.

He took the ring and slid it onto his finger. Warmth surged through his body, a forgotten sensation of safety.

And Slater... accepted while a faint chant echoed in background, the air cracking like static.

*Witch (smiling faintly):* "Then our pact is sealed, Slater. Take this tarot card, so long as the card is in your hands then not even death will stop me from reaching you cause make no mistake when the time comes… I will summon you."

Slater says while smiling in turn. "Alright bossman"

The Witch pauses in thought, then proceeds to say." My name is Barry but keep this to yourself, understood?"

*Slater*:" You got it bossman"

With a wave of his hand, Barry vanishes into the air along with Oliver, leaving only the scent of burning sage.

Slater turned to his laptop, eyes shining and laughing. " No longer, do i have to be trapped in here. Guess it's time to level up."

Back to Present — New Orleans

He opened his eyes as the jazz continued.

Footsteps approached from the alley below — as Marcel Gerard, confident as ever, the king in a city of monsters drew closer.

*Witch (to himself):* "Let's see if you dance to the tune, oh king of New Orleans... or if you break like the rest."

He said while he watched them ascend the stairs, cloak fluttering, the shadows of old alliances following close behind.
