Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Champion

It's been over 3 months since I was summoned here...in this world. Honestly, it hasn't been an easy going time.

I wasn't given any direct over powering skill or power when I arrived, though my body did undergo changes.

Apparently, they called this the cleansing. A process to allow us a better chance at using the power hidden within us all.

Anyways, I was sent to be trained under Nez Viscount family. I and 2 others, the remaining group of 27 summoned with me to this world were sent to other varying places.

Heard some of them were going to be trained by knights, we weren't really given a choice in this selections.

They just did some tests, had some looks and told us this was were we where meant to be. Of course with quite the amount of ceremonies and praises.

When we reached the household, we were each given rooms and soon three pairs of clothing each.

Three pairs for the next 3 months was horrible, the smell was something you'd get used to after a while.

The stickiness and itching however was not, their justification was that they were trying to improve our tolerance of this stuff...I don't see why it was even needed.

Over the next months we stayed here, we were trained to improve our physical capabilities and our sword skills.

Honestly I thought we were going to also be some sort of knights or crusaders even until they came. There was about 6 of them together and they did not look like people to be trifled with.

There were two main leading figures followed by 4 others who seemed to be guards. Each had a cloak but the guards had extra clothing to form a sort of hill around their neck which partially covered their mouths.

Their shirt bore the signet of black sword piercing the skull of a human, below that is a small puddle of blood.

There was a belt at their hip, to the side rested a sheathed sword. Their arms were covered by armor, so was their legs all up to their knees.

They each arrived on horses and immediately summoned us before them.

" Inquisitor " Neth said in a respectful tone, he bowed slightly as the inquisitor walked into the room.

" At ease friend" the inquisitor responded before turning to face our direction.

" Greetings champions, I am Knight Nathaniel of the Inquisitorial order and I am here to oversee your training in the forbidden arts " He said to them, staring straight into their eyes.

Just as he spoke, soldiers of house Nez suddenly came out. These ones were dressed differently, having sealed helmets that only revealed their eyes.

Their clothing was deep black compared to the usual black and dark green they usually wore.

One held a book, held it so tight to his chest like an obsession. His other hand was on his sword, he glanced around always looking or at least searching for something.

The rest of the guards held similar attitudes, shields raised with their swords like they were expecting an attack.

" Everyone leave but Neth " Nathaniel said suddenly, his voice boomed through the entire hall way.

Quickly, the house guards moved, along with the maids, nobles and knights.

Rex was about to also leave before the Inquisitor looked at us.

" Not you guys, you are the champions. These are for your eyes " Inquisitor Nathaniel said, a dark smile surfacing on his face.

Hana, Rex and Nark silently gulped down their throats when they saw his face.

The feeling of suddenly wanting out surfaced on their minds but the thought of something so powerful being revealed to them also....grabbed their curiosity.

Honestly, it had been a hard and boring few months while they were here. Not like the usual fantasy settings they had recalled from a multitude of places.

But now, it was finally beginning. Their path to power, greatness and fame.

Once the room was cleared, the soldier guarding the book handed it to inquisitor Nathaniel before slowly backing away. Their paranoid attitude remained.

The inquisitor then walked up to them before giving a slight smile.

" Champions, what you are about to see is an art kept secret for centuries. An art guarded and practiced by this family, a primary reason you were assigned here. The art of Necromancy " He said to them, revealing what reason behind all the drama.

At first, they quite couldn't believe their ears.

They were going to be doing necromancy? It was unbelievable, just months ago they were just normal and suddenly they were going to be...

" gods..." Nark muttered, but it was loud enough for the closely gathered group of 4 to understand.

They couldn't help but smile at this revelation, suddenly having imaginations of controlling armies.

" Yes...you could say that. " Inquisitor Nathaniel responded with a slight chuckle as he looked at the three young people gathered before him.

He shook of the smile before he continued speaking.

" Now this is a very big power and as such, you will continue the training to hone not just your minds but your body. Afterall, the cost of using this power can be quite taxing....on the mind" Inquisitor Nathaniel said, finishing what he wanted to announce.

Nark smirked at the inquisitors last words, while he did not want to sound proud and arrogant. He was very confident in his mental fortitude so this should certainly mean that he was made for this.

Thought about how he would excel at this Necromancy art was beginning to surface but he quietly shook his head, be humble and patient Nark- he said to himself as he took a deep breadth in.

" So we would be summoning things like undead? or dark creatures?" Rex said intent on clarifying what sort of necromancy they would be dealing with.

" Summoning dark creatures....is another art, not necromancy" Inquisitor Nathaniel replied though he thought to himself on how exactly the 'champion' would know about the existence of dark creatures.

Of course, he could be referring to something different but even, how would he have the knowledge of these things....but then again, they were from a different world.

It could be there they learned of this sort of information....how much they knew what a completely different matter.

....This might be troublesome..

" So what would we be summoning? " Rex asked. Suddenly remembering that this was a different world, so their reasoning on what exactly was necromancy could be different.

" It would be Skeletons, the undead...." Inquisitor Nathaniel replied watching their expressions, he was slightly surprised not to see surprise nor confusion by his statement but rather excitement and a bit of...disappointment?

This only confirmed his theory that the world they came from had these sort of knowledge before, he wondered whether it was so freely given.

They didn't look to be important or strong people when they were summoned, does that mean knowledge like this wasn't considered important enough.

If that, then just how scary was their world?. What monsters must they face if knowledge like this is so freely provided...that also brings of the question of just how hard it would be to control these 'champion'.

" The undead...hmm, the weakest of them all. " Rex said in muttered breaths as he fell into his own thoughts. Apart from feeling slightly disappointed, he was happy since it was better than nothing.

Rather than thinking of ways to use them or at least make them stronger, armor, weapons....he wondered if they could train and become stronger...maybe even use magic.

But that begged the question of whether there was magic in this world, sure they were summoned but apart from that. They had not seen anything else that can be related to magic...which slight worried him. He did want ways to grow powerful not just in his summons.

" Yes but there are ways to strengthen them of which will be revealed in due time, for not it is time to make the pact " Inquisitor Nathaniel said to them as he turned to his aid and nodded at her.

She brought out a knife suddenly causing Rex and Hana to back away slightly in surprise at the sudden movement. Nark however remained in place as he slightly tilted his head in surprise before opening up his palm.

" Relax champions, we simply need your blood for the pact. A slight cut upon your palms will do. " Inquisitor Nathaniel said to them with a slight smile, causing them to slowly relaxing as they revealed their palms.

Guessed as much - Nark thought to himself as he smirked.

" So-sorry " Rex sheepishly apologized while Hana just offered a slight bow before outstretching her hands with her palms open.

Ever so quiet.

The Inquisitors aide walked forward to them before careful causing a long bleeding mark stretching from one end of their palm to the other. Earning a slight yelp, groan and wince from the three champions respectfully.

The Inquisitor then urged them forward with his hand as his aide quickly backed away and moved to his side. Then he held the book and began to open it...
