Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Harsh Beginnings

Luthren couldn't see, what few movements he could make was mostly guesses and feeling.

He remembered the path they had dragged him from, remembered the exact picture of the room after he seen it when he illuminated the area.

He had a good memory, one that allowed him to recall anything he had seen once. The knight who trained him also helped him in using this good memory of his.

Training him to be able to use it as a sort of live map. That same memory allowed him to recall the entirety of what he had seen.

When he was freed of the bond, the first thing he did was reach for the book that had also been brought with them.

Surprisingly, it was also free from the bonds attached to it. His abducters didn't bring any other of his gear or belongings so he wasted no time looking for them.

He could hear it, the fighting becoming fiercer around him. He couldn't see Raer and couldn't hear him either.

He closed his eyes, recalling from his memory a hole he had seen. It was their best bet for escape, he matched where he was and took a rough guess on its location.

" Ren!!, We need to go. " He screamed in hopes that the beast could hear him.

He wondered if he had the problem of sight just like him but knew that animals had a higher sense of everything really.

He'd expect something similar for the beast - Ren. As he now would call him.

He got a screech back that he couldn't really make anything out of it. It was however enough to know that the beast still lived.

Next the heard the sound of it running in the directing he pointed at, the sound of its feet stood out among the rest of the animals here.

So he too ran for it, he ran and tripped. Got up and ran, he felt his skin tear and his body bleed. He still ran knowing he could not afford to stop.

He ran with his eyes closed, stopping only when he believed he had reached the hole. Taking slower steps and using his hand to reach out for it until he felt the solid feel of a wall.

Not too far from it, the sound of the beast trying to fit in. He moved his hands until he could touch the beast and then pushed with what strength he had left.

He pushed and pushed until finally he felt it move even deeper. Then he threw the book in and jumped into the hole before he began crawling.

He had a very easier time due to his body size, now he was lucky he hadn't built all that much muscles during training.

He crawled deeper and deeper, now resting in fear that the things behind him would suddenly stop and focus on them.

Then he began to feel a cool breeze coming from up ahead and soon heard the sound of Ren falling unto the floor.

He hurried and soon dropped himself out unto the floor, the pain from the floor outshadowed by the relief he felt.

His body was hurting all over and his lungs felt like they were going to blow open. He took in big strides of breathe trying his best to calm himself when suddenly a roar came.

He froze once more in fear, subconsciously already having his eyes open for how long he did not know. He looked around hoping to see anything but was met with the same situation as last.

It was just pure darkness.

Them he heard the screeches from what he could only presume belonged to Ren, the beast was screaming in pain.

Quickly pushing himself to his feet, the book firmly still in his hold. He looked around in desperation, trying to find where Ren was.

Again another scream, this time even more painful than the last. He felt his head pounding at the sound of it, he ears pulled in pain.

But he knew the general direction of where they were, he took a deep breathe in and reached for what remaining vice he had in his body.

Scrapping the very bottom of the barrel for anything he could and quickly manifested a small flame that lit up the area.

From its little illumination, Luthren could see the outline of the beast. It's back turned on him, his mind worked to maintain the flame and think of a way to kill it.

But the screeches of Ren made it hard to concentrate, he was losing time. So he moved, running and screaming at the monster in desperation.

Once he was close enough, he strained himself and threw the fire at the beast. It barely burned its fur but that was not all from him.

He aimed for the back legs of the beast and threw his whole weight at it, feeling it bend under his pressure.

The animal staggered in surprise, Luthren still did not let up. He used the book to hammer the same leg continously over and over again.

Hoping that by some vain wish or luck, it would break or force it to retreat away. The beast, annoyed by him used its other leg to hit him away.

Luthren felt his rib crack and break upon impact just as his body flew back and hit the ground.

The last thing he felt was the feeling of warm liquid flowing down from his nose as his eyes closed shut.

Raer however was not done, he was a beast. No longer human, no longer held by the conscious instincts of self preservation.

He felt pain, he felt dread but most of all, he felt anger. Like all beast backed into a corner with nothing but their deaths visible in their sights.

He pushed for one last action, an action made in spite and hatred for his killer. The brief distraction provided by Luthren was all he needed.

He lunged straight for the towering beast mount, his mouth reaching for soft flesh that protected its neck.

The beast couldn't act quick enough, it heard him and before it could react. It felt the sharp tips of Raer piercing into its neck. It felt blood and air suddenly become scarce.

It jumped and howled in pain, its hands reaching to tear Raer off its body. But Raer was small, small and durable.

Each attempt to offset him was met by harder bites or nasty shifts that caused the bite to tear into more flesh.

Raers claws couldn't pierce its hide but reason had left him, he scratched and tore. Trying to dig his claws in what felt like stone, they broke and bent.

However, he never stopped. Even as his flesh tore, he claws broken and fallen. He kept up the assault over and over.

The beast rolled on the floor in pain, it scratched and beat the body of Raer.

It did nothing to hamper his grip

Then Raer dragged, with no arms he used his legs. Pushing against his adversary as his Jaws dragged the soft flesh of the beast.

He felt his teeth crack, some even broke. But he also felt the gradual tear of the flesh, it was loosening and soon would come off.

The beast lost in pain saw this as an opportunity to end it all, it used its hands to drag Raer of its neck.

Unknowingly helping his effort and then he came off.

Blood, meat and bits of its inner neck followed his trail as he flew from the sudden release of his grip.

His mouth still holding the flesh as he crashed against the ground. The impact shattering his last bit of consciousness as he closed his eyes.

The beast wailed and and roared, the noise scaring off whatever beasts were in the area. Each afraid of the monster that had dominated this area.

It gave one last crying breath before succumbing to its fate. It was dead.
