Nikolai Morozov opened the passenger door and climbed into their official UAZ Bukhanka. The ageing light commercial vehicle looked shabby from the outside, yet it had been modified extensively to meet modern standards. Inside, it was surprisingly comfortable, and in Murmansk Oblast it attracted little attention from passers-by. The vehicle had been officially issued to their unit by the FSB, the Federal Security Service.
Nikolai turned his head, taking in the solemn expressions of his comrades. As captain of this region, he oversaw supernatural cases under the SRU, though on Russian soil they operated under the authority of the FSB. He surveyed today's team: Senior Lieutenant Maksim Volkov, Lieutenant Andrey Novikov, Lieutenant Tatyana Lebedeva, and Junior Lieutenant Anna Petrova.
As the vehicle sped towards Monchegorsk, silence settled inside the cabin for a long while. Eventually, Nikolai exhaled and spoke.
