It started with a wave.
Not a flirtatious one. Not even a flirty-without-trying one. Just a distracted, half-hearted, not-even-looking-in-my-direction kind of wave.
Miri passed me in the hallway, clutching a stack of notes in one hand and muttering under her breath about derivatives. Or maybe demonology. Or both. She didn't stop to talk or properly say hi. She didn't even glare at me for existing, which was mostly her default when it came to me. She just gave a small waved in passing and disappeared into a classroom like she barely registered my existence.
My pride? Wounded.
My libido? Concerned.
My heart? A little sore.
I leaned against the locker, watched the classroom door shut behind her, and sighed like a man who had just been dumped via text. This was much worse those.
