Chapter 79 - Chapter 79: Crocodile's Gender and Robin's Skin Tone

Alabasta Kingdom, just outside the Poneglyph Chamber.

Su Xiaoqi gently placed the unconscious Nico Robin on the ground and spoke slowly, "Nico Robin, the sole survivor of Ohara. At the age of eight, she was given a bounty of 79 million Berries by the World Government. A user of the Hana Hana no Mi. Am I right?"

Silence.

Su Xiaoqi waited, but with no response, he turned to Vivi and asked, "Vivi, back when you were undercover in Baroque Works, did she ever give you any trouble?"

Vivi thought for a moment. "Not really. Why?"

Su Xiaoqi nodded. "Just asking. Since we already played Crocodile to pieces, I figured we might as well have a little fun with his partner too. Once we're done, we can toss her into the desert and let her fend for herself."

As soon as the words left his mouth, Robin opened her eyes and coldly said, "You're really a despicable man."

Su Xiaoqi chuckled. "Takes one to know one. Your personality isn't much better than mine. When I knocked you out, I barely used any force—you were awake the whole time, weren't you? Just eavesdropping on me and Vivi talking."

"But it doesn't really matter. You're going to be joining us eventually, so it's fine if you hear a bit more upfront."

"Joining you?" Robin frowned slightly and looked at Su Xiaoqi. "Aren't you worried I'll betray your Yorozuya Pirate Crew one day?"

Su Xiaoqi laughed. "Who said I'm recruiting you into the Yorozuya Pirate Crew? You're joining the Straw Hat Pirates."

"Those blockheads might not understand your personality, but I do. The reason I brought you here was to help you let go of your inner demons. But don't get me wrong—this isn't charity. You'll have to…"

Before he could finish, Crocodile—having shaken off Luffy—arrived and coldly asked, "Miss All Sunday, are you planning to betray me now? You know what happens to those who do."

Looking at the slightly battered Crocodile, Su Xiaoqi smirked. "Nico Robin is mine now. Why don't you go cool off somewhere?"

"And really, you shouldn't have come here. Now you're just asking to get played again."

"You people…" Crocodile's gaze darted between Su Xiaoqi and Vivi before his face suddenly twisted in realization. "You two… you've been working together this whole time."

Su Xiaoqi smiled. "Ding ding ding, correct. And just so you know, all of this—everything—was my little performance. Fun, right?"

Crocodile's face darkened further as he glared at Vivi. "To think the princess of Alabasta would choose to rely on pirates. I wonder how your idiotic subjects would react if they found out."

Vivi scoffed, "Who I trust is none of your business, you stinking croc."

Su Xiaoqi rolled his eyes. "Come on, Croco-boy. How are you still not getting it? I literally said I orchestrated everything. Is it that hard to grasp?"

"And honestly, do you think you'll even have the chance to tell anyone? If I wasn't saving you for Luffy's training, I would've ended you already."

"You want to die?""Desert Spada!"

As the sand blade flew toward him, Su Xiaoqi casually raised his hand and blocked it.

"This… this can't be…"

Crocodile was stunned. The man had blocked his attack bare-handed—without even using Haki.

Before he could dwell on it, Luffy's voice rang out behind him. "Crocodile! I'm your opponent!"

Su Xiaoqi looked over at Luffy, amused. "If you'd taken any longer, I was about to finish him myself."

"Hehe, sorry," Luffy scratched his head, then turned serious. "This time, I won't let you escape."

But Crocodile wasn't paying attention to Luffy anymore. His eyes were locked on Su Xiaoqi. "Why did you capture Nico Robin? You're after the location of that thing too, aren't you?"

Su Xiaoqi replied, "The location of that thing? I've known it for ages. If you want to know, I might tell you. But first, I've got a question for you."

"Old Croc, were you originally a woman? Or did Ivankov use his Devil Fruit powers to turn you into a man?"

"What the hell?!" Vivi exclaimed, staring at Crocodile from head to toe, mentally trying to picture him as a woman.

Robin's eyes widened in disbelief. Her boss… used to be a woman? That was insane.

Luffy tilted his head. "Areh? You were a woman before?"

Crocodile clenched his fists, his entire body trembling with rage. His voice broke into a hysterical scream. "All of you—DIE!"

Su Xiaoqi sighed. "Told you not to follow us. Now you've been played again. Was it worth it?"

"Luffy, I'm taking Vivi and your future crewmate to handle something. This croc's all yours."

Thus, the battle between Luffy and Crocodile resumed. Unlike the original timeline, Crocodile was now consumed with rage, giving him a slight edge. This meant Luffy would have a harder time defeating him.

Inside the Poneglyph Chamber.

Robin stood before the stone tablet, reading the ancient text etched into its surface. The more she read, the more her expression fell.

"Alright, enough with the gloomy face. This thing just records the location of 'Pluton,' doesn't it? If you want to uncover the secrets of the Void Century, just sail with Luffy and the others—you'll find your answers."

Robin looked at Su Xiaoqi in shock. "You can read this text too?"

Su Xiaoqi shrugged. "Whether I can read it or not isn't the point. The question is—what do you want? Are you still set on dying, or are you going to join the Straw Hats and keep searching for the truth?"

Robin was even more stunned. "How did you know I was thinking about suicide?"

Su Xiaoqi groaned. "Can you please stop replying with rhetorical questions every single time? I'm giving you two options—pick one."

"Option one: I hand you a knife, and you can stab wherever you want. I'll make sure you get a decent burial."

"Option two: Join the Straw Hat Pirates, keep chasing the truth of history, and search for your mentor and that giant who almost got turned into an ice cube by Aokiji while trying to protect you."

Robin's eyes lit up as she grabbed Su Xiaoqi's arm. "You mean they're still alive? Where are they?!"

Su Xiaoqi pried her hand off and took Vivi's instead. "Let's go. This woman's brain's been fried by too much reading. Talking to her is exhausting."

Seeing them about to leave, Robin quickly ran in front of Su Xiaoqi. "If you tell me where they are, I'll join the Straw Hat Pirates—and I promise I'll never betray them."

Su Xiaoqi looked at her and replied, "All I can tell you now is that they're alive. As for where they are—that depends on how you perform in the future."

Truthfully, Su Xiaoqi didn't know where they were either. But to convince Robin, he'd already spilled a bunch of secrets even she hadn't told anyone. She had no choice but to believe him.

Eventually, Robin agreed to join the Straw Hat Pirates. After all, Su Xiaoqi had basically recited her entire family tree—what reason did she have to doubt him?

As Robin wiped away tears of relief and joy, Su Xiaoqi grinned. "Robin, since you've asked me so many questions, how about I ask you just one? Fair's fair, right?"

Robin nodded. "Go ahead."

"So… your current skin tone—did you get tanned after coming to Alabasta? Or do you have some kind of secret skincare technique that lets your complexion go from dark to fair in one or two years?"
