"Release King Cobra! Let go of Princess Vivi!"
The sudden shout made Su Xiaoqi inwardly rejoice, while the voice also snapped Vivi out of the daze she'd been in—still comfortably nestled in Su Xiaoqi's arms.
Crap, I got too into it and forgot my lines...
As Vivi hesitated over whether to continue her part, she suddenly remembered something Su Xiaoqi had emphasized during their preparations:
"You all listen—if anything goes wrong, let me handle it first. Follow my lead or my signals."
Looking at Koza who had just arrived, Su Xiaoqi spoke up, "From what I've heard, you're the leader of the rebel army, right? Then capturing these two should work in your favor, no?"
Koza pointed to the unconscious Mr. 2 on the ground and declared, "We were all fooled by that guy. Now that we know the truth, there's no way we'll rebel against our country."
"Our real enemies now are you—Yorozuya Pirates—and Crocodile along with his Baroque Works."
"That's right!" someone shouted. "This time, we're protecting our country. We'll drive you evil pirates out!"
"Yeah! Drive them out!"
"Drive them out!"
As Su Xiaoqi looked at the passionate rebel soldiers, he smiled. The rebellion problem in Alabasta had essentially been solved. Now, he could focus entirely on pranking Nami.
"Anyone who doesn't want to see Princess Vivi die—shut up!"
With a thunderous yell, he silenced the crowd. Just as he was about to continue his monologue, he heard the airheaded Lu Linglong chatting casually with her hostage—"King Cobra."
"Kaito, what am I supposed to do now? The script's completely messed up."
"Just improvise. The script's dead; we're not. Just remember the main theme—prank Nami."
"So... can I give myself more lines?"
"Do whatever you want. Su Xiaoqi will cover for you anyway."
Su Xiaoqi nearly lost it. Could you two at least try to acknowledge the situation? Should I get you chairs and a bag of sunflower seeds so you can continue your little talk show?
No way. I absolutely cannot let Lu Linglong go off-script. She's bound to blow our cover eventually.
Thinking fast, Su Xiaoqi shouted toward the rooftop, "Captain Chopper! Let Princess Vivi and these foolish citizens witness our true captain—Nami!"
At once, every eye turned toward Chopper, who stood atop the rooftop. Facing tens of thousands of onlookers, Chopper took a deep breath and shouted:
"You damn fools, open your eyes and look clearly! This is the captain of the Yorozuya Pirates—Nami!"
As Chopper's voice echoed out, Nami's image appeared before the crowd.
"Eh? Why is there another Nami over there?"
Luffy tilted his head in confusion, staring at the screen. The rest of the crew turned to look at the real Nami. By now, they had figured out exactly why Su Xiaoqi had gone to such lengths.
He was absolutely setting Nami up to be roasted alive.
As for the real Nami, seeing her own face pop up on the screen didn't make her angry or hysterical. Her expression was surprisingly calm.
"Everyone," she said slowly, "if I decide to kill Su Xiaoqi... you'll back me up, right?"
Back in Nanohana, the townspeople were shocked to discover that the captain of the Yorozuya Pirates was just a young girl. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't reconcile her appearance with the image of a cruel, ruthless pirate.
Catching Su Xiaoqi's cue, Vivi snapped into character. "What's your goal here? Are you just like Crocodile, trying to seize our country?!"
'Nami' let out a cold laugh. "Don't compare me to trash like Crocodile. Scum like him—I beat down every time I see them, until they're too afraid to crawl back into the light."
"As for my goal, of course it's—"
Suddenly, Lu Linglong interjected from below, "Our goal is all the treasure in Alabasta!"
"Old man, if you know what's good for you, hand over the money! You don't want your country's precious princess to become this guy's plaything, do you?"
Su Xiaoqi and Zhu Zhuqing both looked at Lu Linglong, completely speechless. You're really out here writing yourself bonus scenes, huh.
Kaito stared at the flushed and excited Lu Linglong, silently regretting ever telling her to improvise.
Koza shouted, "Don't even think about it! We'll never hand over our country's treasure or Princess Vivi to a pirate crew like yours!"
With his cry, all the former rebels raised their weapons and pointed them at Su Xiaoqi and the others.
"Stop!" 'King Cobra' shouted, looking at Lu Linglong. "Take all the money you want—but don't hurt my people. Otherwise, no matter where you run, Alabasta and the World Government will hunt you down."
Lu Linglong turned toward 'Nami' and said, "Captain 'Nami,' this old geezer just threatened us. Should we kill him?"
'Nami' and 'King Cobra' both twitched. She's way too deep into this role...
Vivi glanced toward Su Xiaoqi with a look that said, Now what?
At this point, Su Xiaoqi had only one option—wrap things up as fast as possible. If Lu Linglong kept going like this, who knew what chaos she might unleash?
He had already accomplished his goal of putting Nami in the hot seat. After this whole Alabasta event, her bounty was bound to skyrocket. Still, before leaving, he wanted to throw in one last twist.
Glancing at the Baroque Works agents who were getting antsy, he quickly chose his target. Mr. 1 and Mr. 2 would be left for Zoro and Sanji to use as "training dummies." But Mr. 1's partner—whoever she was—was expendable.
Raising his hand, Su Xiaoqi fired a ki blast, instantly vaporizing her. Then he looked toward Mr. 1 and said coldly:
"Baldy, go tell your boss that his sidekick was pretty decent. If he still wants that thing, then bring her to the capital and come find us."
He could already imagine the fury in Nami's eyes after watching this whole act. She'd probably storm the capital with a blade in hand, forgetting all about Nico Robin.
Playtime aside, though—Su Xiaoqi had to board Luffy's ship. Luffy was his friend now, after all.
"Huh?" Lu Linglong blinked, then whispered, "Kaito, wasn't that line supposed to come at the end? Why is Su Xiaoqi ending the performance now? I still have so many lines left!"
Kaito silently facepalmed. Because of your 'over-performance,' that's why.
He replied gently, "It's about time. We'll do this again another day."
"Fine..." Lu Linglong pouted. She felt like a switch had been flipped inside her—and now she couldn't turn it off.
Su Xiaoqi and Lu Linglong tossed down the smoke bombs Kaito had prepared earlier. Taking advantage of the chaos, the four of them regrouped on the rooftop with Zhu Zhuqing, Chopper, and Kurumi Tokisaki.
As Lu Linglong looked down at the crowd below, a line from an anime she once watched echoed in her mind. She decided it was the perfect way to close out today's act.
And so, as everyone stared up at her in bewilderment, Lu Linglong slowly began:
"All of you down there, listen carefully."
"No one starts at the top—not you, not me, not even the gods. But the empty seat atop the sky's throne... its vacancy ends now. From this day forward, it will be filled—by our Yorozuya Pirates' Captain Nami!"
Clunk! Su Xiaoqi collapsed on the spot.
At that moment, he realized the biggest mistake in his entire plan...
…was letting Lu Linglong be part of it.
