Morgan's act of bestowing names upon the Fairy Knights was also written into her effect text. She even had other effects, such as searching for a [Bloodstained Throne], but Mordred clearly didn't possess that card.
"Treated as a servant with the same name and level?" Jiang You surveyed the field. Mordred, already a [Knight of the Round Table], and Morgan, who bore the [King of the Knights of the Round Table] trait, needed no further trait modification. Since the effect didn't prohibit targeting the opponent's servants, only one possibility remained.
"You're targeting the [Fanatic]?"
"Hmph! The card I banished was [Round Table Knight Gawain]! So this [Fanatic] can now be treated as a level 6 [Gawain]!"
"The Fanatic was named Gawain? Is that for real?"
Jiang You imagined the scene: a hulking, muscular Fanatic wielding a massive sword, hacking down enemies. That's actually pretty badass! The perfect successor to King Hassan's legacy!
The Fanatic stared at her new name, on the verge of tears. "So this is how you force me to betray my faith? Ugh... just kill me!"
"I'd never let a shady character like you become a Knight of the Round Table!" Mordred snapped, bristling at the Fanatic's unwillingness to accept the honor. "You dare defile the glory of the Round Table! I'll deal with you myself! Mother's effect! While this card is on the field, all Knights of the Round Table can be used as Xyz Material for me. I overlay Mordred, Morgan, and the Fanatic! Xyz Summon! King of the Knights of the Round Table Artoria!"
"Remember to summon me this way in three days," Morgan reminded Jiang You as she entered the Xyz vortex. For now, this was their only means of communication.
"Of course. I hope you haven't lied to me—I hate liars."
"Relax. I always keep my word."
Jiang You trusted the established history, but he trusted Beryl's uncanny ability to mimic human behavior even more.
Three Servants were drawn into a swirling vortex of Xyz energy. Beneath the golden sunlight, an immaculate golden-haired knight stepped onto the battlefield.
Artoria: Attack Power 2500
Artoria's effect remained inactive, mirroring Morgan's situation. Mordred lacked the qualification to wield the Sword of Promised Victory.
"That Noble Phantasm... it's you."
This Artoria was the original King Arthur, the one Lancelot had summoned earlier—the very starting point of the Fate universe, a perpetually overlooked poster girl whose Spirit Origin had barely even appeared in the main story of Fate/Grand Order. The screen time she'd been denied in the Fourth and Fifth Holy Grail Wars was finally being reclaimed here.
"Yo, long time no see. Didn't expect to find you in Mordred's deck. I thought you'd never forgive her."
Keep in mind, this King Arthur was still fresh from the Battle of Camlann, where she had just mortally wounded Mordred.
"We've come this far. Whether I forgive her or not is irrelevant now."
This Artoria had twice considered answering the Holy Grail's summons, only to be rejected both times. After prolonged reflection, she resolved to accept her fate and bring the Age of Gods to its conclusion.
"I will embrace my destiny, accepting the history I forged alongside the Knights of the Round Table."
"If only you could have accepted me back then."
Mordred had always craved Artoria's recognition, even her rebellion stemmed from this twisted emotion.
"I now..."
Artoria tried to speak, but Mordred cut her off sharply.
"Father, I have no time for your sentiments now. My sword is pledged to Lion King Artoria. I'm not so disloyal as to serve two kings at once, am I?"
Regardless of Artoria's intentions, Mordred had already chosen her allegiance. She refused to let any words soften her resolve.
"Me, the Lion King?" Artoria turned to Jiang You. "Jiang You, what's going on here? Why is there another version of me?"
"Wait a minute! How do you even know this 'Father'?" Mordred sensed something amiss. How could her opponent be more familiar with her parent's appearance than she was? "Are you Caster? Don't tell me that bastard Merlin is impersonating you!"
"Of course not," Jiang You denied, then briefly explained the situation in the Sixth Singularity to Artoria.
"Am I really planning to do this?" Artoria wondered.
This Artoria believed that she should share the fate of all her subjects, not just grant a select few the right to become specimens. That would hardly be a true salvation.
"You intend to rebel against me, don't you? In that case, allow me to lend you a hand!"
Jiang You received a new mission: [ Temporary Card [Artoria] has been added to the Card Pool. If you successfully defeat the Lion King, [Artoria] x1 and [Sword of Promised Victory] x1 will be permanently added to the Card Pool. ]
"Little Mo, you're truly my lucky star!" Jiang You exclaimed, visibly delighted at receiving two missions at once, one of which might even be a major storyline. "I just adore you!"
"Ew, how gross!" Mordred recoiled, goosebumps rising on her skin. She had never considered herself feminine; she had always seen herself as a Knight of the Round Table, a Camelot Knight striving for Artoria's recognition. Eager to end the duel and send Jiang You packing, she declared, "Enough chit-chat! This card can also be Xyz Summoned by stacking it on top of a Rank 6 [Artoria] on the field! Descend now! [Lion King Artoria]!"
Clad in silver armor, the mature King of Knights rode a white steed across the horizon, descending in a sacred radiance.
[ Lion King Artoria ] - Attack Power: 3500
This existence was the antithesis of Saber Artoria. In both physique and temperament, Lion King Artoria possessed an inhuman purity, resembling a divine being. To call her a deity at this moment would not be an exaggeration.
"To summon me in such a way, completely overturning the laws of reality... This Noble Phantasm defies all convention. Sir Agravain underestimated you. No wonder Sir Tristan fell here," the Lion King said, her cyan eyes devoid of emotion as they fixed on Jiang You. Since Jiang You stood with the Mountain Folk, he was her enemy. All she sought was the souls of the pure. "Sir Mordred, give your all. I grant you command over me!"
"Yes, My King!"
For the first time, Mordred marveled at the magnificence of Jiang You's Noble Phantasm. Never had she been so close to her Father before.
