"Shall we go now, Lyannah?" asked Tatay Jun. I nodded in response and looked outside the car where my family was standing, waiting for us to leave. I let out a deep sigh and wiped away the tears that were about to fall for the second time.
Tatay Jun started the car and we drove off. I didn't look back anymore because I didn't want to see mama crying again while watching the car leave, because it felt like we wouldn't see each other again.
"You seem to be about the same age as young master," Tatay Jun suddenly said.
I looked at him in confusion.
Who is this young master he's talking about? Could it be the child of the Sylvester couple?
I just ignored it and looked at the road we were passing. We had been traveling for an hour, but we still hadn't arrived at the Sylvester family's house.
"Oh? Why is this going into the forest?" I muttered when I saw the car pass through the forest.
I looked at Tatay Jun, but he was focused on the road. I gripped my bag tightly and swallowed hard.
This road is correct, right? We're not lost, are we?
I suddenly felt nervous because this was the first time I had seen this road.
"We're almost there," he said.
I looked outside again and saw a huge house. The car had exited the forest and was now approaching a large, towering gate that suddenly opened on its own. It seemed automatic, sensing that a vehicle was coming in.
The car suddenly stopped, which startled me. It seemed like we had arrived, but I didn't feel like getting out yet because of the nervousness I felt.
"Lyannah, come on. They're waiting for you inside."
I couldn't believe Tatay Jun had already gotten out of the car while I was still sitting inside. My God, my heart was pounding so hard, and I didn't even know why.
"Oh, my God, the house is huge," I uttered as soon as I got out of the car.
This isn't a house—it's a mansion because of how massive and beautiful it is.
They really are rich.
This house seems to be about five stories high, and the exterior is mostly glass, but you can't see what's inside. It's obvious that tinted glass was used as the material, but it's beautiful—from the color, the structure, to how it was built.
When I entered inside, I really couldn't help but be amazed by how beautiful the house was. The living room greeted you upon entering. It was spacious and made in a traditional style. I think that's the style of the house, but it's beautiful even if the designs are historical. It doesn't look old-fashioned, it's still up-to-date. From the furniture to the decorations and other things inside the house.
How do I know? Because that was my father's job before he died. He designed household items, so I know how these were made.
"Are you Lyannah Alfonso? Lira's daughter?"
My nervousness returned when I heard a woman's voice. I looked where it came from, and I was stunned to see her together with her husband.
Such beautiful beings.
I thought they were already old, but they looked like a young lady and a young man.
"Welcome home, Lyannah, we're so glad to meet you," she said with a smile, and immediately hugged me, which surprised me even more.
I didn't expect her to do that—to greet me with a tight hug. It was surprising, but I tried not to show that I was startled by what she did.
I didn't know what to say. It's like I lost my tongue now that I'm standing in front of them.
"It's so nice to meet you, Lyannah. Make yourself at home," said her husband after hugging me as well.
Why are they so kind to me? We're only meeting for the first time. Mama was right, they're very kind.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too, Sir," I replied and gave them both a small smile.
My God, I just want the ground to swallow me whole right now.
But why do I feel so weird right now? It's like I'm not looking at ordinary people.
Mama told me her employers were older than her, but based on what I'm seeing now, it looks like mama is even older than them. The people I'm facing look like they're only around 29 to 30 years old. And their skin is so pale, their eyes are golden-brown, and their lips are so red. It's weird, but they look so beautiful.
"Manang, please call my son from upstairs," Sir Sylvester ordered one of the housemaids. She followed and immediately left.
This is what I've been waiting for—I'm finally going to meet him.
"He said he's coming down, sir," the housemaid said when she returned.
Why do I feel so nervous? I don't know what's happening to me, but even my knees are shaking because of it.
"He's here," Mrs. Sylvester said with a smile while looking at me.
How did she know when she wasn't even looking upstairs?
My gaze shifted to the staircase when I felt his presence. I think he's coming down now, and I wasn't wrong.
I stared at him as he slowly came down the stairs. It was like every movement he made suddenly went in slow motion when he looked at me.
All I can say is… he's so handsome.
His physical features are absolutely perfect. From his eyes, eyebrows, nose, lips, jawline—everything about him is flawless. You wouldn't see a single flaw in his appearance. But from the way he's looking at me, I can already tell he's not as kind as his parents.
"Son, I'd like you to meet Lyannah. She is the daughter of Lira Alfonso, and she will be your new nanny for now," Mrs. Sylvester said with a smile.
Nanny?
What does she mean by that?
"Stop saying that, Mom. I'm not a kid," he replied irritably.
I immediately bowed my head when his gaze shifted to me. My God, why can't I look at him?
"Devor Sylvester," he introduced himself.
I lifted my gaze and looked at him. He was staring at me seriously. I couldn't see any emotion in his eyes other than that.
He really is the complete opposite of his parents.
"Lyannah Alfonso," I managed to say and forced a small smile at him.
My God, will I be able to endure this man's attitude?
But I think I can. If mama managed to stay here for seven years, then so can I.
Devor Sylvester, I hope you won't make things hard for me.
