The next day Nya cornered me in the kitchen. "I'm pregnant again!" She squealed.
I stared at her. "How the hell did you get Jay to do that?"
"I didn't. This one was an accident. I didn't even trick him!"
I studied her for a minute. "Nya, have you told Jay yet?"
Her face fell. "No, not yet."
"Oh, Nya." I sighed. "You do realize he needs to know about that? So he can know why you're so cranky?"
"I can't tell him! He didn't want any more kids after Tina! He got a vasectomy yesterday."
Oh, that explains why Jay is in such a mad mood. "Um, then how did you get pregnant?"
"We had sex a week ago and I just found out today."
"Did he tell you he was going to get a vasectomy?" I asked curiously.
Her gaze darkened in anger. "No," she growled. "He just went and did it. Worst of all, he spent a lot of our money on it too!"
I watched her as she snapped a spoon. "Uh, Nya? Can you try to not break our stuff while you deal with your anger? Maybe you should go to the training room and kill a couple of dummies."
"How about I break him?"
Oh no. "Lloyd!" I called. Lloyd came in. "Nya is pissed at Jay." And he turned right back around and left. "Hey!"
He groaned and came back in. "Why do I have to be here?"
"He got a vasectomy last night," I told Lloyd. "Without telling Nya."
"Oh Jay," Lloyd complained.
Nya snapped a fork this time. "Nya!" I looked at Lloyd. "Lloyd?"
"Nya, I'll talk to Jay, okay?" Lloyd said quickly.
"You might want to tell him he got her pregnant too," I murmured in his ear. "A week before he got the stupid vasectomy."
Lloyd made a face. "Do I have to?"
"Yes," I said firmly.
"Yes, Ma'am," he muttered and left.
I made Nya sit down and got her some ice cream. "Here, this will help."
"Will it?" Nya asked as she took a big mouthful.
"Yes."
I heard Amanda start crying on the baby monitor. "Oh, Mandy is awake. I'll be back." I hurriedly left the room and scooped her into my arms. "Mandy, you're a lifesaver," I said. "Thank you, baby girl."
Ken came into the room grinning. "Wow, Mom. You're mental shield is down. I didn't know you wanted to murder Uncle Jay and Aunt Nya."
I stuck my tongue out at him. "Stay out of my head. It's not my fault Aunt Nya's hormones are driving me crazy and you're Uncle Jay is just plain stupid."
"I thought we already knew that."
I chuckled. "Okay, he's even more stupid than we thought."
"Yeah. he is," Lloyd said coming into the room. "Jay is freaking out over the baby Nya is carrying. Saying she must have cheated on him and that the money he used was his to begin with."
I rolled my eyes. "He's married. His money became their money. And Nya would never do that. Where did his faith in her go?"
Lloyd shrugged. "No clue."
Ken sighed. "I'll go talk to Uncle Jay and read his mind to find out what's really wrong." He left.
Lloyd and I both looked at each other. "Smart kid," Lloyd said. I nodded in agreement.
