Dawn had broken out before I collected my thoughts. I opened the creaking window on the right, and an icy breeze passed through, giving the room a cool ambiance.
"I guess this is it, huh."
I looked out the window briefly before waking Feng up. He was sound asleep on the other side of the room on his bed.
"Wake up, Feng, Let's go out." I said while lightly shaking him.
"…"
"Oi, Feng!" I yelled.
"…"
"Sigh, This idiot"
I left him and went outside. The morning sky was breathtaking. I was taken aback at how beautiful it looked to me.
I returned shortly, and Feng was still asleep like a fetus.
Aggressively shaking Feng, I yelled, "Wake up, you idiot. We're going on a walk!"
"What do you want so early in the morning, let me sleep." Feng murmured.
"Let's go walk around the village." I said.
"No, Let me sleep." Feng replied.
"If you don't get up, I will drag you out of here." I said ominously.
"Argh. Okay, ok, I'll get up. Leave me alone." Feng said.
Feng and I snuck out through the kitchen door behind the house and went around the village, just walking, with no shenanigans. I could visibly see a mixture of confusion and nervousness in Feng's face, but he didn't speak and just lead the way as I followed beside him.
Now that I'm walking through the village, it doesn't seem to be that big. Small houses with wooden frames, that's it. I needed information if I wanted to find out about that guy.
"Hey Feng, is there a place with books here?"
"Not really. It's a small village with poor people. Maybe they have books in the adventurer's hall."
"The adventurer's hall? Is it close by?"
"Close by? It's so far you'd need a carriage to get there."
"Damn, really, that far."
"Why do you want books anyway?"
"Nothing special, I just want to learn about the world outside the village. Let's ask dad to take us with him. He's an adventurer, isn't he?."
...
"Mom, I want to learn about the world outside the village", said young Feng.
"My dear, one day you will go on adventures with dad and see the whole world together with him", said Feng's mom.
Then one day, while travelling to another village with dad, bandits attacked. Dad tried to fight them off, but they took mom hostage and he got injured protecting me. There were adventures pursuing the bandits, who later caught them, but it was already too late. Mom had already become one of their victims. The adventures later returned her body to the village.
Ever since then, I've been afraid to travel outside the village. It was then when dad left the village to become an adventurer. It was also when Ken was adopted.
...
"Hey, What's wrong? Say something."
"No, you can't, it's dangerous outside the village." Feng exclaimed.
"So what, dad will be with us."
"But-"
"Let's go back and ask dad. Come on."
I ran back home with Feng behind me. On our way, we saw dad was practicing shooting with his bow outside from afar.
"Wow, I've never seen him do that. He never shows his practice to us.", Fend said.
"So he's an archer...", I thought.
He shot an arrow that hit the target with great precision then yelled, "Hey, you guys, come here quickly" waving his bow as he saw us coming his way.
"Feng, Ken, say, how about I teach you how to use the bow today?"
