Chapter 393 - Chapter 393: Just to Make Up for Regrets

Obito and Rin were finally, officially together.

The young version of Obito kissed the young version of Rin, the Transformation Jutsu still active. Kakashi stood nearby, his single visible eye softening as he witnessed the moment. Despite everything that had happened in their lives—the tragedies, the wars, the betrayals—seeing his two teammates reunited brought him an unexpected sense of joy.

"Okay, okay…" Kakashi muttered to himself, nodding repeatedly. For once, his heart felt a little lighter.

After the kiss, Obito released the Transformation Jutsu, his body flickering back to its adult self. He was taller now, scarred, hardened by war, but still unmistakably Obito. The height difference between him and Rin made Yamato raise an eyebrow. He crossed his arms, sighing exaggeratedly.

"This feels a little… wrong," Yamato muttered. "Like you're dating a minor under Transformation Jutsu."

Naruto laughed and nudged Yamato with his elbow. "Don't overthink it, Captain Yamato. Obito was just recreating the past. It's a way to make Rin feel like no time was lost."

Obito ignored Yamato's remark, still holding Rin's hand tightly, as though afraid she might disappear again.

Naruto tilted his head and asked, "So, Obito… how does reality compare to the dream you always imagined?"

Obito's lips curved into a rare, genuine smile. His eyes softened as he looked at Rin. "It's… so beautiful that, for a moment, I couldn't tell if this was reality or just another dream."

Naruto grinned, satisfied with the answer. "Good. Do you like it now?"

Obito squeezed Rin's hand, speaking with conviction. "I love it. I've never felt more alive, more real, than I do right now."

Naruto patted his shoulder. "Then treasure it. This is your second chance. You should enjoy it." He glanced toward the village in the distance. "I won't disturb you two anymore. I need to check in on Sasuke."

Obito raised an eyebrow. "Sasuke? Again?"

Naruto nodded. "Yeah. Captain Yamato, you should also go home. You've just returned after being controlled by Root and Kabuto—you didn't even stop by your own house."

Yamato hesitated, glancing at Obito and Rin. The sight of the two finally united stirred something inside him. His heart ached slightly. He had once loved a girl when he was young too, but that girl had disappeared during the chaos of the Root experiments. No blood sample, no remains, no grave to visit. Even Naruto, with all his power, could not bring back someone who had left nothing behind.

"…Some things, once lost, are gone forever," Yamato murmured quietly. He gave one last look at Obito and Rin before nodding. "Alright. I'll head back."

Naruto followed suit, but just as he was about to leave, Obito suddenly called out.

"Wait. Naruto."

Naruto stopped, curious at Obito's tone. He turned back. "What is it?"

Obito walked over and pulled Naruto aside. His expression was unusually cautious.

"What's with the mystery?" Naruto asked, raising an eyebrow.

Obito chuckled faintly, then asked in a serious tone, "On the battlefield, before all this… you once told me that in the future, when conditions allowed, you'd help me resurrect Rin completely. Naruto… you weren't lying, were you?"

Naruto looked at him, then glanced at Rin speaking softly with Kakashi. A small smile formed on his lips. "Don't worry. I meant every word. Once the time is right, I'll make it happen. Not just for you—there are many people I plan to bring back. I want to correct as many regrets as I can."

Obito's chest tightened. He stared deeply at Naruto. For a moment, he saw the weight behind those blue eyes—the same kind of weight he had carried under the mask all his life.

"…Naruto," Obito said quietly, "I once thought the mask was suffocating me. But looking at you, I realize… even without a mask, you carry burdens no one else can see."

Naruto didn't respond immediately, but Obito's words lingered.

He remembered the promise he had made to Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths, upon being given another chance at life: if he was reborn, he would not allow himself to leave regrets behind. Not even the smallest ones. Every scar, every wound, every lost bond—he would flatten them out, erase them if he could.

That was why he had been willing to break taboos, to violate natural laws, and even meddle with reincarnation itself. It wasn't just about ethics anymore. It was about ensuring that no one—himself included—would have to endure the same crushing regrets that had haunted the shinobi world for generations.

Some called it reckless. Some would call it selfish. But Naruto knew one truth: in this world, nobody ever got a chance to start over. Nobody but him.

So he would take that chance.

When Naruto left, Rin tilted her head at Obito. "What did you say to him?"

Obito smiled softly and stroked her hair. "Nothing much. Just… other things."

Rin narrowed her eyes, clearly unconvinced. She lightly punched his arm. "Liar. You're hiding something again."

"Ow—no, really, Rin!" Obito rubbed his arm sheepishly, still smiling.

Kakashi sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Alright, lovebirds, enough in front of me. I don't need to see this. Anyway, I need to report to the Hokage. Some messenger-nin came yesterday—apparently I'm needed at the office. You two can go enjoy yourselves. If you don't want to head back to your homes, you're free to stay at my place tonight."

With that, Kakashi gave them a lazy wave and disappeared down the road.

Obito turned to Rin, eyes shining with hope. "It's just the two of us now. How about we go out? See the world together, just you and me?"

Rin smiled brightly. The idea thrilled her. "Yes. That sounds wonderful. Every time we left the village before, it was always on missions with Minato-sensei. We never got to just… enjoy ourselves."

Obito chuckled. "Then let's go."

Rin hesitated. "But… I didn't tell Kakashi where we're going. Maybe we should—"

"It's fine," Obito interrupted, grinning. "Don't forget, Rin. I can use Space–Time Ninjutsu too."

With that, his Mangekyō Sharingan spun, and the Kamui activated. The swirling vortex of space sucked Rin in gently, followed by Obito himself. He wanted to take her away from everything—to let her see mountains, rivers, oceans, sunsets. A world of just the two of them.

For the first time in years, Obito felt hope. He no longer carried the weight of despair that had once chained him. He could finally look forward to tomorrow.

But elsewhere, another story was unfolding.

Sasuke stood before the Uchiha clan's ancestral grave, Kabuto by his side. The younger Uchiha's expression was cold, his Rinnegan glowing faintly.

"Kabuto. This is where the Uchiha are buried. Be careful with your digging," Sasuke ordered.

Kabuto smirked, adjusting his glasses. "You're probably the first man in history to lead someone to dig up his own clan's graves. How ironic, don't you think?"

Sasuke's expression didn't waver. "I don't care about clan pride. These bones mean nothing. My eyes can see truths far beyond what they ever could."

Kabuto's gaze flickered to Sasuke's left eye, the Rinnegan, and his right, the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. Together, paired with Yin Release, his power rivaled even Naruto's.

"…No wonder you're so confident," Kabuto murmured. "Your power really is in a league of its own."

He summoned tools with a clap of his hands and began digging.

Sasuke watched him for a moment, then muttered, "You've been with Orochimaru too long. You even look like a grave robber now."

Kabuto chuckled. "Call it what you want. At least I'm efficient."

Several graves were opened. Kabuto examined the remains, analyzing them with clinical precision. "Yes. These are indeed Uchiha. The bones are intact, though… their eyes are gone."

Sasuke narrowed his eyes. "As expected. The eyes were the only parts anyone ever wanted. The rest of the body was useless to them."

Kabuto nodded. "True."

Sasuke dropped into the pit, picked up one of Kabuto's tools, and began digging himself.

Kabuto's lips curled into a smile. "Ah… so this is the Sharingan's true charm. I've spent years perfecting my craft, yet after watching me for just a few minutes, you've already copied my technique."

Sasuke ignored him, continuing to dig.

The sound of metal scraping against earth echoed through the Uchiha graveyard.

And so, while one man sought to mend regrets through love, another sought to unearth the remnants of a broken clan.

Two paths, both born from pain, both leading toward a future still uncertain.
