Chapter 20 - weapons warehouse

Darren and Gina had a satisfying meal and decided to walk around a little after leaving the restaurant. Darren and Gina walked calmly as they talked and laughed, trying to digest the food while strolling down the streets. They passed by tall skyscrapers, at least 60 percent of which were owned by Darren's company.

Although Darren had enough money to last him a lifetime, all of it would be useless in less than three weeks. Due to the nature of his storage space, spending just a little money was enough to store supplies for a few people's lifetimes. As they walked, Willow was still sending supplies into the storage space, multiplying the amount. Darren could no longer keep up with the sheer quantity of items being stored.

Reaching the end of the street, Darren and Gina saw a park built by his company. Darren took Gina's hand and quickened his pace. Surprised by his sudden excitement, Gina could only follow along. When they reached the park, Gina guessed why Darren was so happy to see it he had commissioned its construction years ago specifically so they could bird-watch together.

The park had once been an undeveloped cluster of trees, almost the size of a forest.

Because it was frequently visited by rare and endangered bird species, the area was difficult for the city to develop effectively. Later, Darren found out that Gina often came here to watch birds. As a result, he took a contract from the city to develop the land. Since he had a lot of money, it was relatively easy for him. Although the venture didn't generate much profit, both Gina and Darren had really good times together, hidden well behind covered spots in the trees—which was one reason he was happy to see this park.

When they arrived at the park, Darren and Gina first went to an open ice cream shop. Darren left Gina on a park bench to get ice cream for her. As he walked to the familiar ice cream shop, he smiled at the memories they had made there.

Seeing the familiar old man—who usually teased them and asked when they would get married—Darren smiled and said, "Old man, how are you?"

The old man looked up at the sound of the voice and recognized the face of a handsome young man he knew well. A big smile broke out on his face, happy to see his benefactor. Although Darren was unaware, the old man was also a beneficiary of one of his many good deeds, which was why the old man was always so accommodating toward him.

"Young Master Darren! I haven't seen you in a very long time!"

Smiling back, Darren replied, "Well, I've been going through some things, but I feel okay now."

"Oh, okay. By the way, Young Master, where is the miss?"

"Oh, you mean Gina?"

"Yes, Gina," the old man replied, nodding.

"She's sitting on a park bench, waiting for me."

The old man smiled bitterly. Though he never said it aloud, the reason he was so interested in Gina and Darren's relationship was that he knew Darren was a loyal man—something he'd learned from celebrity news and gossip sites. Even though he hadn't seen Darren in a long time, he had been plotting how to hook his granddaughter up with him. But Darren was never single, which frustrated him greatly.

But what could he do? He couldn't make his daughter the other woman, right?

Coming back from his musing, the old man asked, "The usual, or would you prefer—?"

The old man was shocked to find that Darren was no longer standing there. Looking around, he could not see anyone, which made him feel like he was going senile.

Darren had been going to chat with the affable old man before buying the ice cream, but from the corner of his eye, he saw that Gina was being attacked. When he turned around, Gina was no longer in sight.

"Damn it!" Cursing his lack of vigilance, Darren ran quickly and found Gina in a standoff with a man. Gina was holding a small woman's gun, and though she looked confident on the surface, anyone close to her could tell she was unsure.

Darren, who had been panicked before, was no longer scared of losing Gina to his carelessness. Using his space-jump powers, Darren disappeared from where he was standing, reappearing with a roundhouse kick aimed at the man's head. He didn't put much power into it, figuring it was just some bum harassing Gina.

To his surprise, however, the man dodged his kick almost fluently—without pressure or panic—as if he had eyes at the back of his head. Sensing the man wasn't simple, Darren teleported to Gina's side, standing protectively in front of her while sizing up his enemy.

Though the man opposite him was shabby, the clarity in his eyes gave him the demeanor of a wolf hunting its prey, which made Darren regard him with slightly more caution. Still, to Darren, the man was nothing special—he was only surprised by his physical prowess. Darren also had a nagging suspicion that this man had something to do with the Organization.

As they stood in a standoff, the man moved at a speed imperceptible to human eyes, attempting to bypass Darren and reach Gina. Unlike the first time, however, Darren didn't hold back. Tracking the man's movement, Darren disappeared—an act that frightened his opponent.

After teleporting behind the man, Darren struck before he could react. A powerful kick slammed into his midsection, shattering his ribs and sending him flying until he crashed into a tree, knocked unconscious.

Darren wasn't willing to kill him yet—the man's unnatural speed was strange, and extracting useful information from him might help uncover more about the enemy.
