Chapter 289 - Chapter 286: Loki

New JerseyIn a secluded secret base.

This military base was built by the Nazis during World War II for the research and development of advanced weapons and equipment, including Nazi robots.

"Damn usurper!"

An aged figure opened his eyes.

He sensed that the other five [Fangs of the Serpent] had lost connection—not destroyed, but rather his control over them had vanished.

What angered him even more was that the usurper hadn't even shown his face; the one who had injured him previously was merely a subordinate.

The Serpent stared at his aged, withered palm. It seemed fear was still too little.

"Father, I've returned."

Skadi stepped out from the darkness.

Following behind her were two figures, one of them carrying a large warhammer.

They were:—Angler, the Soul Eater—Kus, the Stone Breaker

"Only this kind of trash?"

The Serpent furrowed his brows, his eyes filled with disdain.

"Father, in such a short time, only these two met the criteria," Skadi replied, kneeling on one knee.

These two "Hammer Lords" were mutants. One had the ability to control bones. The other had skin tough enough to resist bullets.

Skadi had found them in a nearby prison where the two had been bullying others and living like kings.

The Serpent sighed helplessly. In fact, he could have let the hammers choose their own masters, but that risked the weapons being stolen.

"Who's there!"

The Serpent's eyes suddenly sharpened. A surge of green fear energy erupted around him and shot like lightning toward the shadows behind Skadi.

BOOM!

The fear energy ignited a tall figure like fire.

Strangely, even as the figure was reduced to charcoal, it never let out a scream.

"I'm sorry, Father. I made a mistake," Skadi said, her expression grim. She had been followed.

"Serpent, I came to help you."

A green figure stepped out from the darkness.

It was none other than the God of Mischief—Loki.

"Asgardian? No… Odin's magic… You're a Frost Giant."

Green light gleamed in the Serpent's eyes as he saw through Loki's true nature.

"What I am doesn't matter. What matters is: you need my help."

Loki raised a charming smile.

"Help? What help can you offer me?" the Serpent asked, amused.

"To fight the Demon King together. You alone can't—"

Before Loki could finish, cold sweat trickled down his face. The atmosphere was suddenly filled with an overwhelming aura of fear.

"I am a god—the God of Fear, an omnipotent being! How dare you compare me to mere mortals?"

The Serpent's fear aura enveloped Loki like a shroud, his eyes as cold as death.

"Wait, wait! That was my mistake! I brought a gift for you," Loki quickly said.

"If your gift doesn't please me, Frost Giant, I will turn your skull into a wine cup," the Serpent replied, withdrawing his aura.

Loki wiped the sweat from his brow. Even while sealed, the Serpent's power was terrifying. If he had known it was this bad, he would've sent someone else.

But he smiled and said, "Of course, you'll be pleased."

Loki summoned magic, and hundreds of towering figures appeared behind him. Each of them looked exactly like the one that had been turned to charcoal earlier.

"Kill them," Loki commanded, pointing to the two current Hammer Lords.

"RAAAA!"

The tall clones roared like beasts and charged barehanded.

Within moments, the two Hammer Lords were slammed into the walls and brutally beaten.

Blood splattered. Screams filled the air.

Skadi frowned and tried to step in.

The Serpent stopped her with a gesture, a curious expression forming on his face.

In just a few minutes, the two Hammer Lords had been reduced to pulp. Two of the towering figures picked up the [Fangs of the Serpent], becoming the new Hammer Lords.

"This gift pleases me. You may keep your head for now, Frost Giant," the Serpent declared proudly.

Loki smiled. "I'm glad you're satisfied. Also, my leader sincerely invites you to join our organization—to fight against the Demon King together."

"Join you? Your pathetic little sewer-dwelling group dares ask for my allegiance? Be grateful for the gift's sake. Now get lost!"

The Serpent's eyes were full of disdain.

"I understand. Here's a plan book. If you're interested, take a look."

Loki didn't argue. He turned and walked away.

But in the next second, a green energy beam struck him, vaporizing him completely.

"Hmph. To think you could win me over with such a measly offering? Gods do not consort with ants."

Despite his words, the Serpent picked up the plan book and began reading.

The more he read, the brighter his eyes became. Even without the Fangs, this plan could strengthen his power…

Meanwhile, dozens of kilometers away, inside a small tavern.

Loki, now wearing a white shirt, opened his eyes. A green glint flashed in them.

"That old relic rejected me."

Across from him sat a pale-skinned man with a diamond-shaped gem embedded in his forehead, sipping red wine elegantly.

"No worries. We'll go with the alternate plan. Also, you've passed the assessment—you are now an official member of our organization."

"Can I meet the leader now? The great one who dares defy the Demon King?" Loki asked with admiration in his voice.

"You will meet him," said Mr. Sinister with a faint smile.

A few days later — Oymyakon, RussiaBlistering winds and blizzards swept across the land, threatening to freeze all of creation.

Abomination (Blonsky), Juggernaut, and Hulk found themselves in this icy wasteland.

"Hulk hates the cold!"

In human form, Hulk trudged through the snow, bundled in thick cotton clothing. Each step made the snow creak beneath him.

Blonsky's eyebrows and hair were frosted over. He grumbled, "You've got some nerve saying that. If you hadn't wrecked the plane engine in your sleep, we wouldn't be marching through this frozen hell."

Hulk muttered, "Not Hulk's fault. You hit me in my dream. I just reacted."

"So it's my fault now?"

"Mm. But you're Hulk's friend, so Hulk forgives you."

"Oh wow, thanks a lot!" Blonsky said sarcastically. He bent down, scooped up some snow, and hurled it at Hulk.

"Hit Hulk again and Hulk will get mad!"

"You think you have the right to be mad? Who do you think got us into this mess in the first place?"

"Not just Hulk. You too!"

"I'll kill you!"

Juggernaut watched the two devolve into a snowball fight—for the third time during this trip.

At first, he used to stop them. Now, he didn't even bother. He just treated it as their usual way of bonding.

Suddenly, Blonsky saw an opening and pulled off a perfect shoulder throw, sending Hulk flying into the blizzard.

Hulk vanished into the white storm.

Without transforming, Blonsky could still outmatch Hulk in technique.

Dusting snow from his shoulders, he turned to Juggernaut.

"Juggernaut, why did you come on this mission with us?"

He and Hulk were forced to join because they wrecked the arena and owed compensation. Juggernaut, however, had volunteered.

Juggernaut stayed silent for a moment before replying:"I just needed to lay low for a while."

Lately, every time he stepped outside, crowds swarmed him, begging for selfies. It was overwhelming. He just wanted peace.

Blonsky raised an eyebrow. "Isn't that a good thing? You mutants used to be hated and hunted. Now it's different."

Juggernaut gave a bitter smile.

"It is good… I'm just not used to it yet. Feels weird, like I don't belong anywhere anymore."

Quote of the Chapter:"Even the gods must offer gifts to gain allegiance—but power never kneels, only waits."
