Chapter 255 - Chapter 254: The Mother Box

After Tony's wedding concluded, everyone returned to their busy routines.

Every single person was extremely busy.

Various plans were being pushed forward simultaneously.

A large number of personnel were entering the country every day.

World leaders were coming for interviews—and submission.

The most surprising among them was Wakanda, a nation the world had long assumed to be underdeveloped.

But in reality, their advanced technology was among the top globally.

They even had a massive vibranium mine.

Originally, many powers were eyeing it, hoping to dig out a piece for themselves.

However, the King of Wakanda directly sold the mine.

He sold it to the Demon Corporation in exchange for a large number of contribution points—and even managed to place two of his people into the corporation.

T'Challa.

Shuri.

Even though the Demon Corporation could mass-produce vibranium, its price remained sky-high, making it incredibly valuable.

Gotham.

The Batcave.

Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Cyborg gathered.

During this period—

After reading the comics, Batman decided to form the Justice League early.

"So you called all of us here just to look at a box? You do realize I had a date today,"

complained Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern.

He had never been too happy about Batman becoming the leader of the team.

"This isn't just a normal box. It's been emitting a signal since a month ago—I feel like it's calling something.

Batman, what do you know about it?"

Cyborg—Victor Stone—asked seriously.

It was Batman who told him to bring the Mother Box here.

"What could he possibly know? He's just an ordinary human,"

Hal scoffed dismissively.

"Kid, show some respect. While he was out protecting the world, you were still rolling around in bed with women,"

Aquaman said coldly.

He had been lured here by a high salary.

Despite being historical enemies with Wonder Woman's people, he admired Batman.

"Protecting the world? The entire galaxy falls under my jurisdiction, you know."

Hal, still full of arrogance from just receiving his ring, raised his hand, which glowed with green light.

"Hey now, let's all calm down. I mean—we're all superheroes, right? Shouldn't we be getting along?"

Barry Allen tried to mediate, clearly startled by the tension. This was not the team dynamic he had imagined.

"Shut up, you little brat!" x2

The Justice League had just been formed and had not had time to build chemistry, and already things were descending into chaos.

Diana sighed helplessly.

Bruce ignored the mess around him and asked, "Victor, when did the Mother Box start emitting signals? How many times in total?"

"It's been transmitting intermittently ever since Superman died, but there were two very quiet periods—April 3rd and July 25th,"

Victor answered.

Bruce and Diana exchanged a glance—they both recognized those dates as the exact times Chino had appeared.

Buzz!

Suddenly, the Mother Box on the table began vibrating violently, its surface distorting and transforming constantly.

"What's going on?" Barry asked in surprise.

"The Mother Box is emitting signals again," Victor replied.

He had tried to stop it before—but it was no use.

Suddenly, the Mother Box fell silent.

"That's it?" Diana asked in confusion.

"No, usually it lasts at least ten minutes,"

Victor added, clearly puzzled.

"It's because it sensed danger,"

Bruce said calmly.

He turned around to look behind him.

"Long time no see, Chino."

Chino had appeared behind them without anyone noticing—with Venom by his side.

Diana's expression changed upon seeing the two of them. She reached up and touched her hair awkwardly.

Cyborg immediately scanned the pair and confirmed their identities.

"Chino bro, Venom sis—so good to see you again! I mean, it's really been a while,"

Barry zipped over in front of them in an instant.

"Likewise, Barry,"

Chino replied, patting him on the shoulder.

Venom nodded politely at him.

"So, where have you guys been all this time? I forgot to ask for your contact info back then, and when I asked Batman he said he didn't know either. Oh! Also, Chino bro, I've got some answers to that question you asked me last time, but there are still a few parts I can't figure out."

Barry began to ramble excitedly.

"Hey! Brats! This isn't a reunion party, alright?

Batman, are they on your guest list too?"

Hal Jordan interrupted impatiently. Seeing Chino's ridiculously handsome appearance was already getting on his nerves.

But the moment he looked past him and saw Venom, his eyes lit up.

"Such a beautiful lady—would you do me the honor of joining me for dinner? My name's Hal Jordan—but you can call me Green Lantern."

As he spoke, a green glowing rose appeared in his hand.

"Idiot,"

Aquaman snorted disdainfully.

"Sure—but I only accept your head for dinner!"

The moment the words left her mouth, Venom reverted to her monstrous form, opening a massive mouth full of razor-sharp teeth.

"Oh my God! A monster!"

Hal jumped back in terror, lifting his ring hand to strike her down—

Wait.

He looked at his now bare finger.

"Where's my ring?!"

"If you want your ring back, bring me the Green Lantern battery,"

Chino said casually, tossing the ring in his hand.

He then turned to Batman.

"I thought you'd dealt with this troublesome thing already. At the very least, you should've shot it into space."

Batman shook his head and explained.

"I've been swamped lately, running all over the world dealing with the mess you left behind last time. Besides, I don't have the means to destroy the Mother Box. If I shot it into outer space, it would just become a ticking time bomb."

"A mess? You should be thanking me. Without me, you'd be even more exhausted. I solved your problem in one go,"

Chino said, clearly annoyed.

"Thank you."

"???"

Chino was stunned. He hadn't expected Bruce to actually thank him.

Yes, Bruce had just sincerely thanked Chino.

Although it disrupted some of his plans—

Gotham had enjoyed an extended period of stability, the Joker hadn't been able to stir up trouble, and even Jason had started coming home for dinner occasionally.

"Can you say that again? I want to record it for posterity,"

Chino said, pulling out his phone and opening the voice recorder.

Bruce looked at him coldly.

"Alright, alright, forget it,"

Chino muttered, putting his phone away.

"Demon King, do you know what this Mother Box is?"

Diana stepped forward to ask.

"Who are you? Oh—Wonder Woman. Right, I didn't recognize you with long hair,"

Chino said as realization hit him.

"You—!"

Diana was visibly irritated.

"How much do you know, Chino?"

Bruce quickly cut in, trying to steer the conversation back on track.

Chino picked up the Mother Box and started examining it as he spoke.

"You can think of the Mother Box as a kind of transformation device. There are three in total.

Once the three Mother Boxes are united, they'll unleash a massive surge of energy, which will transform the entire planet. At that point, every human will be turned into bio-weapons.

…And then, Darkseid will arrive to claim everything."

As he finished explaining, he clenched the box in his hand.

The Mother Box creaked and groaned as it began to deform and twist under the pressure of his grip, his fingers sinking deeply into its surface.

Quote of the Chapter:"Even the most advanced tools of war tremble before the hands of a man who knows what they truly are."
