Chapter 13 - Success

The last remaining Annihilith was above him, most likely inside the ship.

Donovan surfaced behind the ship, and sent out the tiny drone again.

He wanted to check if there were humans inside the ship. The tiny drone entered the ship through the cracks.

After a full minute, Donovan confirmed that there were no humans inside the ship.

I have to hurry! My fight from earlier has probably already been sensed by the last Annihilith…

And since it already knows I'm here, I don't have to hold back!

Donovan suddenly turned invisible, and he flew out of the water, and landed on the deck. He quickly entered the inside of the ship, but the last Annihilith wasn't there.

He checked the map, and he saw that the blue dot was facing the red dot.

Upon seeing this, Donovan quickly raised his head, looking in front of him. But there was no Annihilith.

Where…?

Suddenly, his eyes widened as he came to a conclusion.

The captain's cabin!

He climbed up the ladder, and rushed towards the captain's cabin.

Without thinking, he kicked open the door. And sure enough, the last Annihilith he needed to exterminate to complete the mission was there.

At the center of the room was the Annihilith. It was feasting on the corpse of a man. Rather than "feasting," it was more like flesh was being sucked in by its head resembling a miniature black hole.

The corpse was unrecognizable, its head and limbs were missing, most likely already "eaten" by the Annihilith.

The inside of the captain's cabin was a mess. The desk, chairs, and bottles were destroyed, maps and paper were burning, and everything had blood on its surface.

The Annihilith was so busy eating its meal that it failed to notice Donovan.

Donovan's breathing turned calm and slow. This was a habit of the original Donovan. Before finishing a mission, the original Donovan would always calm his breathing.

Suddenly, a spear of light appeared. It was then grabbed by Donovan, and he lunged towards the Annihilith who was too busy eating.

Suddenly, the Annihilith paused. As the tip of the spear neared the surface of its black hole-like head, it suddenly deflected it with its arm that had turned into a sharp blade at some point in time.

Donovan was caught by surprise. The alien took two steps back, away from the corpse it was feasting on earlier.

As Donovan regained his footing, the surface of the Annihilith's body suddenly started to glow dark red.

Meanwhile, Donovan watched this happen with a confused look. Suddenly, his eyes widened as he realized what was happening.

There were often times of a Drone-type Annihilith turning, or rather, evolving to a Reaper-type…

I… I can't let that happen!

Donovan dropped his umbrella, and rushed towards the alien. On his right hand was the spear of light that was starting to disappear.

Then, with a final thrust of his spear, he tore through the Annihilith's head. The Annihilith was so busy trying to "evolve" that it was unable to defend against its attacker.

As its head that resembled a miniature black hole disappeared, the alien's body fell to the wooden floor.

The spear of light had also disappeared. After breathing a sigh of relief, Donovan sat on a chair that was still in good condition.

His very first mission after he transmigrated was a success.

That was a close call… If I had let it evolve to a Reaper-type, I don't think I'd survive…

Wait, that reminds me… Mr. Tiero said that there are eight Drone-types, and… one Reaper-type…

I just killed eight Drone-types… That means that there's a Reaper-type somewhere around here…

Hm, he did say that he'd send someone else to deal with the Reaper-type since I'm apparently not ready for one…

Donovan then turned his attention to why the Annihiliths were underwater in the first place.

What were they even doing down there? A ritual? Yeah, right. Planting something…? Heh, or maybe they were trying to dig up something?

Shaking his head, he walked towards the umbrella he dropped. Then, he stared at the bloody corpse of the man who was eaten by the Annihilith.

Poor guy… I'm reminded of something once again, Visitors have to cover up everything before they return to Umbrellas. That includes the corpses of the Annihiliths, damaged areas, witnesses, casualties, and etc…

Oh, but thankfully, I'm not the one who's supposed to deal with all of that. Mr. Tiero will probably send someone for those things as well…

Donovan closed his eyes, recalling the steps and procedures a Visitor must do upon completing a mission.

Then, he pressed a button on his silver watch. Clearing his throat, he said, "I'm done over here. My coordinates are…"

Donovan paused, not knowing what his coordinates were. As he checked it on his silver watch, he continued saying his coordinates.

After that, he said, "One human casualty, and eight Annihiliths…"

Suddenly, he paused. Oh, and there's that guy who kicked me in the back… Uh, I hope I didn't hit him too hard. He doesn't count as a casualty, right? Since he's still alive… hopefully…

With a sigh, he pressed the same button on the silver watch again.

At Umbrellas, Tiero received a notification on his phone. It was a voice message from Donovan.

He responded to it by saying, "Understood. Good job for today. You may return now."

Upon receiving Tiero's response, Donovan breathed another sigh of relief.

He was quite happy and satisfied with how things turned out. Before coming to this planet, he was sure he'd fail. But in the end, he completed the mission, despite ending up with zero Umbrella Fuel.

Heh, this is quite good. If I failed this mission, Tiero would probably be suspicious of me. After all, Donovan who rarely failed a mission, suddenly failing a mission with only eight Drone-type Annihiliths? Whew…

Suddenly, about five seconds later, inside the captain's cabin, a bright flash of light appeared.

Narrowing his eyes at this, Donovan was sure this was the person Tiero had sent for dealing with this.

Is he for dealing with the Reaper-type, or cleaning my mess?

As the flash of light disappeared, a man appeared in Donovan's vision.

The man had red hair, and he looked to be in his mid-twenties. The man was quite handsome as well. He was wearing a black pinstripe suit with a red necktie, and on the right side of his neck was a star tattoo. The man's red eyes landed on Donovan. Then, with a smile, he reached his hand out, offering a handshake.

As Donovan shook his hand, the man said in a smooth but slightly rough voice, "Nice to meet you, Donovan. I'm Michael Graves, the guy… heh, sent by Tiero. I'm also the guy who's supposed to deal with the Reaper-type, and the mess you made." Looking around the cabin, Michael continued, "This job sucks, but hey, the pay is good."

I'm not the one responsible for what happened to this room, though…

As they finished shaking hands, Donovan said, "This is our first time meeting, correct?"

The man, Michael, replied, "Yes. Anyway, I should start my job now. As for you, you should go back."

Donovan nodded. As he prepared to return to Umbrellas, he asked again, "Don't you need me to tell you where the bodies of the Annihiliths are?"

With a chuckle, Michael said, "No need. I have just the tech for that. It comes with the job."

"I'll leave you to it then." After that, Donovan began the teleportation sequence, and disappeared.

After Donovan disappeared, Michael whispered to himself, "Although this is our first time meeting, I can already see why he favors you so much…"

With a bright flash of light, Donovan returned to the floating city out in space, which was also a space organization called Umbrellas.

His body and suit were soaked. He sighed inwardly.

Then, he saw the intimidating Tiero approaching him.

"Well done," Tiero said.

Donovan nodded.

"I've already sent the mission reward to your account. Keep up the good work, Donovan," said Tiero as he gave him a pat on the shoulder before walking past him. Then, he wiped his hand clean because Donovan was soaked head to toe.

Mission reward…

Donovan recalled the currency used by Umbrellas, as well as most galaxies and star systems:

Combining galactic and credit—Galacred. It is the widely accepted currency used by many planets and galaxies.

Its "creator," the House of Universum Trade, is a universal mega-corporation responsible for managing and regulating the currency accepted across the entire cosmos.

If memory serves me right, I should be getting… approximately three thousand Galacreds… Heh, no wonder I'm currently quite rich!

Donovan didn't bother thinking about the name of the currency and the mega-corporation behind it as he activated his Flight ability and headed straight to his apartment building.

It was currently 8:30 a.m., and all he wanted was to dry himself off.

Thirty minutes later, Donovan sat on the sofa in casual and comfortable clothes.

As for his suit, he gave it to his robot that was for washing and drying clothes. Like his chef robot, it was a laundry robot.

He had also taken a quick shower.

What to do…

Normally, a Visitor below Storm Rank can only do one mission per day. After ranking up to Storm, Visitors can now do missions as much as they want in one day.

Hm… I don't want to just laze around all day. I'll go for a walk, then…
