Chapter 15 - Midnight Mercy

October 4th,

We didn't plan to find her.

We only planned to pray.

But heaven had a rescue on its calendar —

And we just happened to be in sync.

The atmosphere in our room was heavy — but not in a bad way.

Anita sat cross-legged, her eyes closed. Tony was by the window, pacing slowly, whispering in tongues. I sat on the floor with my Bible open, heart already stirring.

We'd agreed: tonight was different.

No distractions.

No gentle devotion.

This was warfare.

"Anything?" I asked Anita gently.

She shook her head. "Not yet."

So we prayed. In rhythm. In unity. In fire.

And somewhere between the third hour and Tony's hoarse whisper of "Holy Spirit, lead us…", Anita gasped.

"I see her!"

We all froze.

"Where?" Tony asked, crouching beside her.

Anita's eyes brimmed with tears. "She's near the school gate. There's… there's darkness around her. But light is breaking in."

She opened her eyes. "We have to go. Now."

We didn't argue.

Didn't second guess.

Didn't waste time.

We ran.

The campus was still, eerily quiet. The wind whistled as if it were trying to warn us.

And then we saw her.

Mayumi.

Curled near the base of the main gate. Limp. Her hoodie torn. Skin bruised. Shoes gone. Eyes barely open.

"Jesus," I whispered, running toward her.

Tony checked for a pulse. "It's weak. But she's alive."

Anita knelt beside her, whispering softly. Praying.

Her voice trembled. "There's so much pain in her spirit. Like she's been... battling in another realm."

I cradled Mayumi gently. "You're safe now. We found you."

Or maybe... God led us.

We carried her to the school clinic. Lied that she was a student who collapsed after late studying. The nurses didn't ask too many questions.

As they worked on her, I stepped aside and dialed my mom.

She picked immediately. "Sandra?"

"We found her, Mom."

Silence.

Then a whispered, "Thank You, Jesus."

The devil fights dirty.

But our God?

He fights with precision.

He speaks through visions. He moves in unity.

And tonight, He moved us — to find the one.
