Chapter 14 - Eyes that see

October 2nd,

Some gifts feel like burdens.

Some callings come wrapped in fear.

But when light enters, the hidden begins to make sense.

Tonight, we didn't just open Scripture.

We opened a door.

The evening was unusually still. A soft breeze drifted through the open window, pages of my Bible fluttering as if even the wind was trying to read along.

I looked across the room. "Anita, want to join me for my personal study?"

She hesitated, then nodded, curling up on the mattress opposite me.

I smiled. "Don't worry. It's not a 'Pastor Sandra' moment. Just… girl-to-girl, Word-to-heart."

She gave a soft chuckle. "Alright. Hit me."

We opened to 2 Kings 6 — the story of Elisha and the chariots of fire.

I read it aloud:

"'Don't be afraid,' the prophet answered. 'Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.' And Elisha prayed, 'Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.'"

Anita sat up straighter.

I glanced at her. "What is it?"

"I… I've read that before. But it hits differently now."

I closed the Bible. "Talk to me."

She looked down at her fingers, fidgeting with her nails.

"Sandra… I've seen things. For years. Since I was a kid. Not just dreams. Visions. Sometimes when I'm wide awake."

"Like what?"

"Dark shadows… light bursting in places. People glowing. Some covered in chains even while laughing. I used to think I was crazy."

My heart stirred.

She looked up at me, eyes glistening. "But the more we've been praying, the stronger it's become. And lately… I've been seeing things around campus too. Over people. Over places."

I reached for her hand. "Anita, you're not crazy. You're gifted."

She blinked. "You think so?"

"I know so." I smiled. "You're a seer. God shows you what most people can't handle. But that means you're crucial to this battle."

She took a shaky breath, as if something finally clicked inside.

"I've been afraid, Sandra. I didn't ask for it. But… it's like I'm supposed to do something with it."

I nodded. "And you will. But not alone."

That night, we didn't study the Word — we lived it.

We prayed together.

We cried.

She saw.

I listened.

And in that tiny hostel room, with flickering light and open Bibles, we became more than friends.

We became warriors.

***

There are battles you don't fight with fists.

You fight them with sight.

And tonight, God revealed that one of us carries eyes sharp enough to see what others fear to face.

Let the enemy tremble.

The seer is awake.
