Chapter 307 - 307

Something more productive was not what Yuze ended up doing.

Not in the slightest.

And when he woke up the next morning to another body in his bed for the first time in years and stared at the ceiling, trying to remember what the fuck he'd been thinking the night before.

Something more productive.

What the fuck.

Why did he do that?

Give in to Kai Low's whining and weird competitiveness with Akari.

He'd lost his mind, that's why. Somewhere in the middle of their argument the night before, all his common sense had left him, and now, he had the Ambassador of the tribes in his bed.

He had Fox's brother in his bed.

Fox's brother, who hated him for reasons that he wouldn't explain. Who became enraged at the mere mention of him.

Why did he do that?

Because he was an idiot. And exhausted and angry and a whole host of other things that should have been his first clue not to make any decisions at that moment.

Morning light was just beginning to creep over the horizon; he could see it through the open window.

He didn't normally sleep with the window open, so it must have been Kai Low. He did keep complaining about being inside.

And he was a length of fire against Yuze's side, sprawled out so there was no escaping him.

It hadn't been…unpleasant. He certainly seemed to live up to his bragging. Yuze was relaxed in a way he hadn't been for a while and sore in a way he hadn't been in a long, long time.

In sleep, Kai Low looked younger, his face devoid of the frown lines he'd carried every day since he set foot in the Camelia. His mouth was slack, open as he drooled on Yuze's pillows, and Yuze realised, eye twitching, on Yuze.

What has he done?

Kai Low carries scars; Yuze figured that out without ever having to see him naked, but he carries them on his body, too. Not as many as Yuze, definitely not now, but enough that there was no doubt he was a warrior.

And a skilled one at that.

Which was not what Yuze should have been thinking about then. He needed to think about how to get rid of him without pissing him off and making the situation that much worse.

And to make sure that Kai Low didn't immediately go around telling everyone Yuze had slept with him.

Maybe the most annoying part was that it hadn't been bad at all, either. Most of it was just a haze of anger and frustration and then blinding heat and relief. Yuze was out of practice, but it had mattered. Akari and Kai Low were nothing alike out of bed or in it, and Yuze got lost in the comparison despite himself.

"I was wrong." Kai Low's voice startled him out of his thoughts, and he looked down to find hazy golden eyes blinking up at him as the Bandri struggled to wake up completely.

"What?"

"I was wrong." Kai Low rolled away and stretched, long limbs pulling and unashamed of the nudity that distracted Yuze again. "This is the best bed." He sank back into the sheets, seemingly unaware of Yuze's internal dilemma.
