Li Xin rose from the rail and clapped his hands sharply. "All right, everyone, get settled in. We have a long day ahead of us."
The crew immediately scattered, each headed for different spots on the ship. Tge captains words were law and everybody respected that.
Fu Ling remained where he was, watching Li Xin's commanding movements. The cloth was still covering his face and Fu Ling couldn't get a good look which subtly annoyed him.
"Come on, scholar," a soft voice said from beside him.
Fu Ling turned to see a girl, perhaps a few years older than him, with cropped black hair and sharp, lively eyes. She wore simple clothes. Faded, patched at the knees, but carried herself with an easy confidence that made him take an immediate liking to her.
"Hello" he said with a slight nod
"Name's Black Rabbit," she said with a small grin. "Don't be alarmed. I'm not here to eat your brains. The captain sent me to show you where the servants' quarters are. Let's get you settled."
