That time, Leif had to push Irene off his shoulder, but he made sure she didn't fall all the way over before he stood up.
When the apprentice opened the door, he was surprised to see William standing there with flint in his hand.
"Sir Gunnar says we all should settle down for the night," he explained. "Block doors with furniture and light a fire to stay warm. He said we will come up with a better plan in the morning since the goblins are becoming more active now that the sun is setting."
"Yes, of course," Leif responded and took the flint from the squire. "Thanks."
The squire merely nodded, and Leif turned to see Irene slowly waking up. She frowned at him and rubbed one of her eyes.
"Did I fall asleep on you?" she asked in disbelief.
Leif's ears felt hot, and he glared at the girl. Rather than answering, he changed the subject.
"Did you hear what William said?" he asked. "We need to settle down for the night."
