JUMP CITY – BLACKWYND TOWER
Raven appeared in a blur of violet shadow as she teleported inside the Blackwynd Tower. The moment she arrived on the upper floor, her heartbeat stuttered.
Adam's office was ruined.
Walls had been blasted outward, leaving gaps that opened directly into the city air. Glass was gone, scattered like glittering shards across the floor. Furniture lay overturned or shattered, deep scorch marks carving across walls and ceiling alike. Papers drifted lazily through the air like snow, caught in lingering currents of unstable energy.
And blood.
Dark red stains smeared across the floor and broken desks.
Raven stepped forward cautiously, her boots crunching over debris.
"…Signs of battle," she murmured.
Her magic senses expanded instinctively, and immediately recoiled from lingering demonic residue.
Fear tightened in her chest.
"Am I too late…?"
She moved faster, scanning the destruction. Violence was in the air, with resistance. Something had fought back hard here, maybe a bit too hard.
Then
A shadow shifted behind her.
Raven spun, magic flaring instinctively to defend herself.
And froze.
Adam stood there.
In a Shadow Lantern uniform.
Black armor wrapped around him seamlessly, the violet sigil glowing across his chest. His eyes burned faintly violet, and on his hand the ring pulsed with controlled darkness.
In his other hand, casually dangling, was a severed demon limb.
He blinked.
"Oh. Hey, Raven," he said as though greeting her over coffee. "You have no idea what just happened."
Raven stared at him, momentarily speechless.
Adam scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
"So… bunch of monsters attacked me. Came out of nowhere throwing fire and… honestly, a lot of screaming."
He lifted the glowing ring.
"I only managed to put this on just in time. Arthur wasn't kidding about it being useful."
He glanced around the room and winced.
"I might've gone a little overboard, though."
Raven slowly lowered her hands, still processing.
"…Overboard?"
Adam laughed nervously.
"Yeah. I kind of summoned… hundreds of floating weapons?"
He gestured vaguely.
"Couldn't control them properly. They were supposed to hit the monsters, but I sorta unleashed them on the whole room instead."
He looked at the destruction.
"The monsters ended up being collateral damage."
Raven couldn't help it, a soft laugh escaped her.
"As long as you're okay," she said, relief washing through her voice. "You had me worried for a second."
Adam chuckled.
"Did you come because you sensed them?"
Raven shook her head.
"No, I knew something like this was going to happen since another group of them attacked the estate first."
Adam's expression immediately shifted.
"What! is my mot..."
"She's fine," Raven interrupted gently. "Miss Blackwynd is safe. I took her somewhere secure, out of reach."
Adam exhaled deeply, tension leaving his shoulders.
"Good.. Thank you Raven, truly."
She added, "You can go there too if you want. Even though you've already proven that you can… well.. defend yourself."
Adam glanced at the glowing ring again.
"Yeah… apparently. Almost killed myself in the process though."
He smiled faintly.
"Thanks, Raven."
A pause.
"This has to do with Arthur, doesn't it?"
Raven hesitated, then nodded.
"…Yeah."
Adam laughed softly, shaking his head.
"Of course, my little brother's stirring trouble somewhere."
His tone wasn't bitter, just resigned amusement.
"But I'm guessing it's for a good reason."
He looked at the demon limb in his hand, grimacing.
"These things weren't exactly diplomatic. They attacked immediately."
He paused.
"Though one of them was holding something strange."
Raven's gaze sharpened instantly.
"What was it?"
Adam frowned, trying to remember.
"I didn't get a good look. I panicked and attacked first too." He shrugged. "But it looked like… shackles? Kind of ghost-like. Transparent almost. It was very weird."
Raven's expression changed.
Suspicion crept into her eyes.
"I see…"
Her mind raced.
Demonic attackers.
Shackles.
Targets close to Arthur.
She straightened.
"This settles it," she said quietly. "I need to go to Hell."
Adam blinked.
"Wait. Hell?"
Raven paused, realizing.
"…Right. I didn't mention this."
She gestured vaguely.
"These were demons from Hell."
Adam held his head with one hand.
"Good lord. So that's what those things were."
He sighed.
"And that means Arthur's actually in Hell right now."
Raven nodded slowly.
"Yeah, I've already confirmed that."
Adam frowned thoughtfully.
"Shouldn't Arthur already sense this happening here? He told me to get used to the ring because it's the only defense he can provide if his shadows aren't around."
Raven considered it.
"That's possible. He probably took most of his shadows with him for something big."
Her gaze softened slightly.
"He trusted you to handle yourself."
Adam gave a short, uncertain laugh.
"…Right."
Raven reached into her cloak and took out a small, strange-looking gem. It glowed faintly with a strange light.
She placed it in his hand.
"Keep this."
Adam inspected it.
"What's it do?"
"If you feel any spell trying to take over your mind, or anything your ring can't counter… break it."
Her tone turned serious.
"It'll release a powerful protection spell, enough to repel demonic influence."
Adam nodded carefully, closing his hand around it.
"Thank you."
He looked at her, concern flickering beneath his humor.
"You stay safe too. And when you find Arthur…"
A grin tugged at his lips.
"Tell him to take it easy. Demons are invading us after all."
Raven actually smiled.
"I'll let him know."
She gave him one last look, alive and standing, unexpectedly capable but it wasn't that strange considering he was Arthur's brother.
Then she vanished in a pulse of violet light.
Adam stood alone in the wrecked office, staring at the space she'd left behind.
He looked down at the demon limb still in his hand.
"…Yeah," he muttered to himself. "Definitely not a normal day."

LA – LUX NIGHTCLUB
Inside LUX, the club pulsed laughter, clinking glasses, and the intoxicating illusion that nothing truly mattered beneath its glowing lights. Mortals danced without realizing they stood inside the playground of the Devil himself.
At the bar, removed from the noise like two old predators watching prey from the shadows, Lucifer Morningstar lounged with effortless elegance. A crystal glass spun lazily between his fingers.
Across from him sat Mazikeen, her posture relaxed but her sharp eyes always observant even when she smiled.
Lucifer took a slow sip, then exhaled with theatrical delight.
"Well," he said, amusement dripping from every word, "I must admit… I didn't expect him to be that capable."
Mazikeen raised a brow.
"Oh really?"
Lucifer's smile widened.
"Killing Abaddon… sealing Azazel… Humiliating the Triumvirate..." He let out a soft laugh. "My, my. I'm almost speechless."
Mazikeen smirked knowingly.
"You're lying. You knew all along that he could do that."
Lucifer grinned.
"Maybe."
He leaned back, eyes glinting with fascination.
"You know what's truly funny?" he continued. "He can enter Hell now whenever he wishes… and leave just as easily. He doesn't need me to keep the path open. The others do, but he does not."
He tapped his glass lightly.
"And instead of simply conquering it with his shadow spawn, he's waging a psychological war against its demon lords."
A soft chuckle escaped him.
"It's brilliant! Honestly… I'm enjoying the show more and more."
Mazikeen folded her arms.
"You're enjoying watching someone else play with your old toys?"
Lucifer laughed.
"Oh, darling, they were never toys. More like… incredibly loud pets."
He tilted his head.
"I do wonder, though… if he'll show up there eventually..."
His smile turned wicked.
"And whether I'll get blamed for everything once he does."
Mazikeen snorted softly, taking a drink.
"I kept order after you left," she said. "But it got boring."
Her expression shifted, almost nostalgic.
"Being Queen of Hell wasn't exactly thrilling."
Lucifer's grin softened.
"You left because you like me more."
He lifted his glass in a mock toast.
"And I do rather need a competent assistant here. So, really, I can't complain."
Mazikeen rolled her eyes, though a smile was on her face.
"I'm asking seriously," she said, leaning forward slightly. "Do you really think he can make Hell submit the way you did? I doubt that."
Lucifer's gaze sharpened.
The playful façade thinned just a little.
"Do I think?" he echoed quietly.
His smile returned, slower this time.
"He will."
He swirled his drink, eyes reflecting something deeper than amusement.
"The problem here my dear isn't Hell itself or the vermin that dwells within it."
He pointed lazily upward.
"The problem is upstairs."
Mazikeen followed his gesture and sighed.
"Right."
"The party poopers."
Lucifer chuckled, but his eyes briefly glowed red.
"There is someone he should be wary of down there," he murmured thoughtfully. "And… it seems that someone just arrived."
His expression turned curious, almost intrigued.
"I wonder what he wants from him."
Mazikeen watched him carefully.
"You're not going to interfere are you?"
It wasn't a question.
Lucifer shrugged.
"Why would I ruin such an entertaining performance?"
He leaned forward, elbows on the bar.
"Besides… for him to do all this…"
His voice lowered.
"To reshape Hell… to challenge its lords… attract the attention of Heaven, all to prevent a few stray demons from reaching Earth and to retrieve a fool's soul…"
He laughed softly, admiration creeping into the sound.
"He's very interesting."
The music swelled around them.
Lucifer's gaze drifted toward the dance floor, though his thoughts were clearly elsewhere.
"The Shadow Monarch," he murmured.
"The Lord of Death."
Mazikeen studied him.
"You respect him."
Lucifer smiled without looking at her.
"I respect anyone who turns chaos into art."
He lifted his glass one more time, eyes gleaming with anticipation.
"And I have a feeling," he said quietly, "this story is only just beginning."
