Chapter 640 Hashirama and Madara
Kakashi's expression was thoughtful: "I tried to persuade Obito to return to the right path, but I fear he has fallen too deep into darkness. I'm not sure if he can still turn back."
"You really do know me, Kakashi." Obito's voice emerged from thin air. In the next moment, now possessing a dual Mangekyo Sharingan, Obito had gained the ability to open interdimensional portals at will. As a swirling, vortex-like portal opened, he sauntered out.
After becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki and reaching the Six Paths level, Obito's attire was not as "dignified" as Ino's or Madara's before him. His Six Paths robe was tattered; not only was his chest exposed, but he still wore his original torn trousers underneath. He had no shoes on his feet, looking every bit a beggar-version of a Six Paths Sage.
However, the Truth-Seeking Orbs behind him were not to be underestimated. The shakujo staff held tightly in his right hand was quite intimidating, and the Uchiha Madara he gripped in his left hand drew everyone's gazes.
Obito casually tossed Madara—who had lost both eyes, most of his body, and the Ten-Tails' chakra—onto the ground, as if discarding a piece of trash.
He looked at the group with his Mangekyo Sharingan.
"Oh? You didn't switch to the Rinnegan and are still using your own Mangekyo? And you've gone blind in one eye, haha, what a pity. Your Kamui Mangekyo is quite powerful." Ino truly hadn't expected Uchiha Madara to be defeated, and for this loser Obito to actually win.
Having avenged Rin and himself, Obito's state of mind was very stable; no mental vulnerabilities had appeared when he absorbed the Ten-Tails. He spoke calmly: "One's own eyes are the best eyes. Since heaven gave me these eyes, I shouldn't run from them."
Ino was on high alert. To be fair, Obito's Kamui Mangekyo was not much weaker than the Rinnegan. Plus, since they were his own eyes, he could use them proficiently. Now that he was also the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki, he was definitely a formidable enemy.
She instantly activated her Rinnegan and pointed her Rainbow Light Fishing Rod at Obito. "Last time, I couldn't be bothered to deal with a pathetic creature like you, which is why you got to live a little longer. Today, I will take your head with my own hands!"
The next second, her Rainbow Light Fishing Rod traced several bizarre arcs, its hook striking at Obito from over ten different directions.
Obito swung the shakujo in his hand. With a series of crisp "clangs," all the hooks were deflected. Seizing the opening, Ino pulled out a long-handled scythe and swung it in a wide sweep.
As the two Six Paths-level individuals fought, the very heavens and earth changed color.
The island where Hozuki Castle was located reached its limit on their seventh exchange. The island shattered into more than a dozen pieces and slowly sank into the sea.
Uchiha Madara, who had only recovered a small part of his body before having the Ten-Tails extracted, also sank into the deep sea. His consciousness grew increasingly dim. He had lost, utterly and completely. Most importantly, it wasn't a failure in battle but a defeat at the hands of his own arrogance.
In a daze, he suddenly opened his eyes. He found that not only had his broken body been restored, but his sight had returned as well. Before him was a scene of green mountains and clear waters. If one didn't look too closely at the yellow urine mixed into the river, it was indeed an azure-blue river.
A voice suddenly rang out by his ear, making him jolt.
"Hey, are we going to have a stone-skipping contest or not? I'll have you know, I have a unique stone-skipping technique!"
Madara turned around, stunned, and saw a cheerful and slightly cocky boy showing off to him.
"...Hashirama? How can this be...?" He looked down and found he had also reverted to his childhood body. Forget the Mangekyo Sharingan; he'd be lucky if the dōjutsu in his eyes even reached the two-magatama level.
He looked around again. This was the Naka River, the place where the Senju clan and the Uchiha clan faced each other across the water.
A little further north was the cliff beneath which the future Konoha Village would be located, and his friend's face would be carved into stone, forever watching over his village.
"Hey, are you going to play or not? My time is very precious, you know!" The young Senju Hashirama gestured wildly, looking very unreliable.
I must be dead, right? I'm definitely dead!
Since I'm dead, there's no need to worry about saving face.
Bring it on!
"Fine, let's go! Who's afraid of whom!"
The two stood by the river skipping stones. In the end, Senju Hashirama, who claimed to have a "unique stone-skipping technique," was the victor. The way he laughed out loud, he was just like a child.
"Why are you always so happy, Hashirama? I really envy you," Madara said in a low voice, sitting on the bank.
"Because I know where my limits are. Because I know everyone will support, help, and encourage me." The young Hashirama's words suddenly sounded mature.
Madara immediately looked up to see the young Hashirama, dressed in a green jacket and white scarf, slowly grow taller. Soon, he transformed into the familiar figure of the First Hokage that Madara knew. Finally, this great hero passed from the world with a smile and became a spirit.
"You!?" he exclaimed, discovering that his surroundings had completely changed. The green mountains and clear waters had vanished, and he had returned to his previous miserable state, missing both eyes and most of his body.
A very familiar chakra flowed into his body. Madara, who had already resolved to die, did not want his old friend to see him in his current wretched state. He also circulated the chakra within his body. As the internal and external chakra merged, his tattered limbs were rapidly repaired.
The eyes were a major problem. Even when stimulated by Ino's Yin-Yang Release, Kakashi, who had lost his left eye, could not grow back a Sharingan. Similarly, the Sharingan was an extremely special organ; even Madara could not grow a new pair of Sharingan at this point.
"Don't move. They're a bit blurry, but I think... they should be usable for now." Hashirama's voice sounded by his ear, and he then felt Hashirama prying his eyelids open.
If you had to say who Madara trusted most in this world? His younger brother Izuna was first, and Hashirama... Hashirama was pretty much tied for first!
"Okay!"
It couldn't even be called a surgery. Very quickly, Hashirama had given Madara a new pair of eyes.
Connected by blood, Madara instantly felt a familiar chakra from the eyes. Compared to his own chakra, the amount in the eyes was pitifully small, but he was still surprised. This was because the eyes he now had were his own—the ones he had replaced with his brother Izuna's Mangekyo Sharingan back when he was about to go blind from frequent use of his own.
In truth, the eyes Obito had taken were Izuna's. This blurry pair, with both vision and dōjutsu power at their lowest point, were his own original eyes.
Madara stood up and surveyed his surroundings.
His vision was extremely blurry, but he could make out that the surroundings were a dim yellow. Centered on him, ripples of water periodically spread out in regular circles.
Here, there was only the soul of Senju Hashirama, and an old man, his back turned, floating in mid-air.
