The following morning, Kael found the nameless man working before he had even started his own training.
This time, he wasn't kneeling in front of his flower bed. He was a few meters farther away, standing beside the gardener and carrying an empty basket while the older man examined a row of shrubs near the wall.
Kael slowed down.
"Started early."
The nameless man turned his head. "He starts early."
The gardener raised a small pair of pruning shears. "So do the plants."
Kael looked at the basket. "What are you doing?"
"I'm not entirely sure yet."
"He's finding out," the gardener replied. "First, he'll help me remove dead leaves, collect branches, and separate what can go into the compost. After that, we'll see if he still wants to work with me."
The nameless man nodded. "He said taking care of only the interesting parts doesn't count as work."
Kael looked at the gardener.
"I like him."
"Thank you, sir."
"I wasn't talking about you."
