Selene woke with a scream, the scary dream fading the moment her eyes opened. She was safe in her room, but her heart would not stop its wild beating.
She lay still, staring at the ceiling as she tried to calm down. It took her a long moment to realize she was not alone.
Lady Clarice was there with two helpers. Seeing them moving quietly in her room made Selene's skin prickle. It was not just that the woman clearly hated her. It was the feeling that she had no private space. Anyone could walk in anytime.
She decided then that she would have to speak with Zephyr about it. She needed a lock on her door, or at least a warning before people entered.
"The Alpha has told us to get you ready," Lady Clarice said, her voice as cold as her eyes. "You have to be ready in less than an hour."
The two omegas with her began to move. One went to draw a bath, and the other went to get her breakfast tray.
"Thank you," Selene said, sitting up. "But I think I can get ready on my own."
