The next morning, Elia was about to leave for work when she got a call from an unknown number. She was wary of answering it because she feared this was her family trying to contact her through some new number, since she hadn't contacted them for weeks now. Her stepmother would be going crazy trying to come up with excuses for her absence from high society.
Good. Elia felt satisfied knowing they were suffering. Her family cared more about their outward appearance and would die rather than telling people that their daughter had left the house. Once the call ended without her receiving it, a familiar face popped up on her porch, startling the daylights out of her.
"Hello, Elia!" Claire greeted her enthusiastically with a huge smile on her face. She waved her phone and said, "I tried to call you, but you didn't receive my call"
